{"id":683,"date":"2013-03-22T11:32:05","date_gmt":"2013-03-22T15:32:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.rotovalue.com\/?p=683"},"modified":"2013-03-22T11:32:05","modified_gmt":"2013-03-22T15:32:05","slug":"updating-and-tweaking-mlb-projections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.rotovalue.com\/index.php\/2013\/03\/22\/updating-and-tweaking-mlb-projections\/","title":{"rendered":"Updating and Tweaking MLB Projections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve uploaded the latest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rlyw.net\/index.php\/RLYW\/direct\/cairo_2013_v0.4_and_still_slightly_early_and_somewhat_useless_2013_projecte\">CAIRO<\/a> projections, to version 0.5, and also tweaked my own projections with more recent injury information, among them the possibility that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotovalue.com\/cgi-bin\/PlayerDetail?player=285&amp;league=23&amp;year=2013\">Mark Teixeira<\/a>\u00a0may be out until June.<br \/>\nIn addition, I&#8217;ve decided to apply my injury adjustment to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tangotiger.net\/marcel\/\">Marcel<\/a> data. The injury adjustment reduces projected playing time for players by an arbitrary amount: I scan injury reports, and from them make an estimate of how much of the season a player is expected to miss, and I lower playing time accordingly. I&#8217;ve done this with my own projections for a few years, \u00a0but since Marcel is not doing other updates, it improves the value of Marcel. Rather than projecting\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotovalue.com\/cgi-bin\/PlayerDetail?player=321&amp;league=23&amp;year=2013\">Curtis Granderson<\/a>\u00a0for 531 AB, it now projects him for 425, as I estimate that Granderson will miss 20% of the season, which would have him returning in the first week of May.<br \/>\nAfter applying these changes I also reran my <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.rotovalue.com\/crowdsourcing-the-future\/\">consensus<\/a>\u00a0forecasts, which now also include <a href=\"http:\/\/morps.mlblogs.com\/\">MORPS<\/a>\u00a0projections. The other projection sources already do try to playing time projection, so I don&#8217;t want to adjust those further.
