Wed Apr 3000:34Jacob deGrom Earns First Win Of Season Tuesday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom picked up his first win of the season in Tuesday's 15-2 drubbing of the Athletics. deGrom pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks with seven strikeouts. The 36-year-old has pitched well overall so far this season, going 1-1 with a 2.73 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and a 9.00 K/9 rate. While his peripherals have been excellent overall, they have not been quite as outstanding when compared to his career standards. However, deGrom has stayed healthy to this point, which is the biggest fantasy concern. He will look to keep things going in his next matchup, which will be a tougher one against a hot Mariners lineup.

Sun Mar 3018:39Jacob deGrom Throws Five Scoreless Innings
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom made his season debut against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said ahead of time that deGrom would be limited to around 75 pitches in this game. Despite that, deGrom gave fantasy managers a strong outing on Sunday. He tossed five scoreless innings, allowing two hits, and striking out six batters in the win over Boston. This was a great start to the season for deGrom, but the key is keeping him healthy. That being said, fantasy managers shouldn't be shocked if the team continues to ease deGrom into things early in the season.

Sun Mar 3013:07Jacob deGrom Expected To Throw 75 Pitches On Sunday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom will likely only throw 75 pitches in his first start on Sunday afternoon against the Boston Red Sox. deGrom missed the majority of the 2024 campaign due to Tommy John surgery. He returned at the end of the campaign and logged just 10 2/3 innings of work. In spring training, deGrom was able to make three starts and logged 10 innings to the tune of a 4.50 ERA. Fantasy managers should monitor his status on Sunday, but it appears the Rangers will continue to slowly increase his workload as the 36-year-old has only pitched more than 90 innings in a single season once since 2020. Over the past three campaigns, deGrom has logged just 105 1/3 total innings to the tune of a stellar 2.82 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP. Even though he may be limited in this start, he should still be viewed as a high-end SP2 in all formats.

Fri Mar 1418:13Jacob deGrom Throws In Minor-League Game On Friday
Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (illness) tossed three innings in a minor-league game on Friday after he was scratched from his scheduled Cactus League start on Thursday due to a stomach bug that is going around the clubhouse. deGrom should be able to make another spring outing soon and he will be ready for the start of the 2025 regular season, although the Rangers plan to ease him in at the back end of their starting rotation. The 36-year-old two-time Cy Young winner and four-time All-Star made only three starts in 2024 while coming back from Tommy John surgery. When considering the fact that he only made six stars for Texas in 2023, it makes complete sense for the Rangers to slow-play deGrom so that he can make it through the year healthy. deGrom is an extreme risk/reward in fantasy, but if he can stay healthy, he has league-winning ace upside.

Thu Mar 1312:34Jacob deGrom Scratched Due To Stomach Virus
Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (illness) has been scratched from his scheduled Cactus League start on Thursday against the San Francisco Giants due to a stomach virus, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Hopefully, the 36-year-old veteran will be able to get back on the mound in a few days for what will only be his second spring training game after he threw 31 pitches in his debut last weekend. The two-time Cy Young winner still has the stuff to be a fantasy ace if he's healthy, but the caveat is that he's started only nine games in the last two seasons due to arm injuries and will be eased in early in 2025 to preserve his health throughout the season. Additionally, deGrom plans to back off a bit on his velocity in order to try and preserve his health. deGrom hasn't gone over 100 innings pitched in a season since 2019 with the New York Mets.

Wed Mar 1215:02Rangers To Slow-Play Jacob deGrom's Workload
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said on Foul Territory on Wednesday that the team will slow-play right-hander Jacob deGrom's workload this year in order to get the most starts out of him at the end of the season. "If we have to skip a start or put him on the IL to keep him fresh, we'll do that," Bochy said. In addition to his workload being managed, the 36-year-old veteran also plans to dial back his velocity in an effort to stay healthy for the long run. For what it's worth, he was sitting at 97 mph in his first Cactus League outing. deGrom returned from Tommy John surgery late last year to make three starts and allowed just two earned runs in 10 2/3 innings while striking out 14 and walking one. He averaged just over 97 mph in those three outings as well. deGrom was an elite fantasy starter before his second Tommy John surgery. There's risk and a lowered fantasy ceiling because of workload restrictions, but when he's on, he still has the upside of a No. 1 starter.

Sun Mar 911:47Jacob deGrom Not Looking To Maximize Velocity
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom is not looking to maximize his velocity during the upcoming season. deGrom spent the majority of the 2024 campaign sidelined after undergoing his second Tommy John surgery in 2023. However, the two-time Cy Young winner is looking to slightly decrease his velocity to ensure he remains healthy during the entire 2025 campaign. When he returned to the majors at the end of the 2024 season, he is fastball averaged just over 97 mph. However, during the prime of his career, deGrom's fastball typically sat around 99 mph. He recently made his spring training debut and tossed two shutout frames. When on the mound, deGrom has been one of the most effective pitchers in the sport. As a result, fantasy managers should view deGrom as a high-end SP2 heading into 2025 given the elite upside he carries despite the injury risk. If he can continue to lower his velocity and remain dominant, he could put himself at a much lower injury risk while providing elite fantasy production.

Mon Mar 317:18Jacob deGrom To Start In Back End Of The Rotation
The Texas Rangers plan to use right-hander Jacob deGrom at "the back end" of their starting rotation when the 2025 regular season begins later this month, according to manager Bruce Bochy. It means that deGrom, who made only three starts in 2024 after Tommy John surgery, might not pitch in the opening series against the Boston Red Sox at Globe Life Field. The Rangers want to give the oft-injured two-time Cy Young winner plenty of time to rest early in the year. It's possible the 36-year-old veteran doesn't make his season debut until March 30 against the Cincinnati Reds. It shouldn't come as a huge surprise, as deGrom has yet to make his Cactus League debut (it will come on Friday) after throwing his first bullpen session of the spring on Saturday. deGrom has proven to be one of the best pitchers in baseball, but he's made only nine starts for Texas since signing a five-year, $185 million deal before the 2023 season.

Sat Mar 114:22Jacob deGrom Set To Make Spring Debut On Friday
Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) will throw his first live bullpen session on Saturday and is slated to make his spring training debut on Friday. deGrom has thrown several bullpen sessions throughout the early part of camp but will now face live hitters for the first time on Saturday. If this session goes well, the 36-year-old will then look to make his Cactus League debut on Friday. Given his slower ramp-up, fantasy managers should continue to monitor his workload, as the right-hander may be given an innings limit during the first few weeks of the campaign. Last season, deGrom only logged 10 2/3 innings (three starts) after recovering from Tommy John surgery. During his brief stint, he posted a strong 1.69 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP. He tallied 14 punchouts with an elite 2.3 percent walk rate. Even though he carries high injury risk, he carries high-end SP2 upside given his elite ratios and strikeout upside.

Fri Feb 2814:50Jacob deGrom Could Make Spring Debut In Second Week Of March
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session over the weekend. The expectation is that deGrom will throw a few live BP sessions against hitters before making his spring debut. The right-hander is still ramping up after returning late last season following Tommy John surgery. When healthy, deGrom is one of the best starting pitchers in the league. Sadly, it has been a challenge keeping deGrom on the mound. The expectation is that deGrom will be ready for Opening Day, but he's an extreme risk/reward fantasy selection.

Sun Feb 1613:05Jacob deGrom Looks Good Early In Camp
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) had all eyes on him during a recent bullpen session over the weekend. Due to injuries, deGrom has only been able to start nine games since joining the Rangers in 2023. He underwent his second Tommy John surgery of his career in June of 2023. The right-hander made three starts for in September last season, but is ready to be a bigger contributor in 2025. The Rangers obviously aren't going to push him to 200 innings, but the goal is for deGrom to make about 30 starts. Manager Bruce Bochy said deGrom has looked good, so hopefully the four-time All-Star can make a larger impact in 2025.

Sat Jan 1812:35Jacob deGrom Feels Good Heading Into Spring Training
According to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) "feels really good" after having a typical offseason. deGrom missed most of the 2024 campaign after recovering from his second Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in April of 2023. deGrom returned to the major leagues in September and struck out 14 batters across a short 10-inning stint. The two-time Cy Young winner expressed, "The goal is to go out there and make as many starts as I can to help contribute. Things have been feeling really good," when asked about his current health status. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the 36-year-old's status during spring training, but it appears that the hard-throwing right-hander will be a full-go for the start of the 2025 campaign. Given his career 2.52 ERA and 0.99 WHIP, deGrom carries elite upside despite his injury risk.

Tue Sep 10 202421:25Jacob deGrom Will Start On Friday For Rangers
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) will make his 2024 season debut on Friday and the two-time Cy Young winner will draw a very favorable matchup against the Mariners, although it comes on the road in Seattle. The Mariners have the lowest team batting average in all of baseball and they also have the highest strikeout rate per game (10.15). deGrom is making his way back from Tommy John surgery and hasn't pitched in the majors since April of 2023, but he made four rehab appearances in which he was his usual dominant self. The four-time All-Star threw a total of 10 2/3 inning, allowing one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out 15. Four innings was the most he threw in any one of his rehab starts, so he may be somewhat limited in his return, but he'll offer fantasy managers a chance for good strikeout numbers, low ERA, and low WHIP during the fantasy playoffs, so he should be rostered wherever he's still available.

Sun Sep 8 202413:28Jacob deGrom Sharp In Rehab Outing, Nearing Return
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) looked sharp in his fourth rehab outing on Saturday and could be nearing a return to the major leagues. The right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery last season and has logged four rehab outings since late August. He logged his longest outing so far on Saturday as he tossed four shutout frames while striking out five batters and surrendering just one hit. Last season in Texas, the two-time Cy Young winner logged 30 1/3 innings to the tune of a 2.67 ERA and a stellar 0.76 WHIP. The 36-year-old could be an excellent starting pitcher down the stretch and is worth stashing on your roster in all formats.

Fri Sep 6 202401:04Jacob deGrom To Make Another Rehab Start On Saturday
Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) will make another minor-league rehab start for Double-A Frisco on Saturday. deGrom said earlier this week that the club was deciding whether his next start would be in the big leagues or down on the farm again, and the Rangers have decided to give the former two-time Cy Young winner one more rehab start before allowing him to rejoin the big-league rotation for the first time all year. So far in his three rehab starts for Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock, deGrom has allowed just an earned run on three hits while walking one and striking out 10, but in just 6 2/3 innings total. The 36-year-old will likely be stretched out a little more on Saturday, but he'll only have a few starts to close out the year for Texas and will be a pretty risky fantasy streamer as he makes his return from Tommy John surgery.

Mon Sep 2 202421:02Jacob deGrom Likely To Make One More Rehab Start
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said the team has discussed having right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) make his next start with the big-league club, but it's more likely that deGrom will make one final minor-league rehab start this weekend for Double-A Frisco on Saturday. "That's an option. But I don't think that's what we're going to do," Bochy said. With the Rangers well out of postseason contention, there's really no rush for them to push the 36-year-old veteran back to the big leagues, so it's more likely that he won't make his 2024 debut until next weekend against the division-rival Seattle Mariners. deGrom has been out all season while recovering from his second Tommy John surgery. Fantasy managers expecting him to suddenly return to his Cy Young form for a few starts to close out the year would be foolish.

Sat Aug 31 202413:22Jacob deGrom Set To Make Another Start At Triple-A On Sunday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) is set to start for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Sept. 1, and throw around 45 pitches, according to manager Bruce Bochy. deGrom has slowly begun working his way back from Tommy John surgery and is approaching his return to the majors. The right-hander logged a two-inning start at Triple-A last week, where he did not allow any baserunners and struck out two. He previously got the starting nod at Double-A for a similar two-inning stint on August 22. Bochy expressed that if his next outing goes well, he will head back to Double-A on September 7 to continue to ramp up. Fantasy managers could expect deGrom to return to the major leagues sometime the following week. The two-time Cy Young winner is worth holding onto as he could be a viable starter down the stretch as he posted a strong 2.67 ERA and 0.76 WHIP through his first stint with Texas last season.

Tue Aug 27 202421:37Jacob deGrom Shines In Second Rehab Start
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) threw two perfect innings with Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday, allowing no baserunners and striking out two hitters while throwing 24 pitches (16 strikes). The outing marked deGrom's second start on his minor-league rehab assignment after he threw two innings for Double-A Frisco on Thursday. Manager Bruce Bochy noted on Tuesday in Chicago that deGrom was targeting two innings and around 40 pitches in this outing, and that the veteran right-hander would get some extra work in the bullpen if he proved to be more efficient. deGrom is working his way back from June 2023 Tommy John surgery, and Bochy indicated the righty will increase his workload to three innings and around 50 pitches in his third rehab start. The two-time National League Cy Young Award winner is tracking toward a regular-season debut in early-to-mid September for the Rangers and fantasy managers.

Thu Aug 22 202421:43Jacob deGrom Throws 29 Pitches In First Rehab Start
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) made his first minor-league rehab start on Thursday, allowing one earned run on two hits and no walks while striking out three in two innings (29 pitches) with Double-A Frisco. In his first appearance in game action in over 16 months, deGrom touched 100 mph on his fastball in the first inning on Thursday. Manager Bruce Bochy has previously estimated the Rangers' ace's assignment will last four starts, so deGrom will likely make his first big-league appearance this season around mid-September if all goes well in the minors. deGrom's fantasy impact is going to be muted when it's all said and done for 2024, but the two-time National League Cy Young Award winner is certainly someone to stash for those looking to bolster playoff rosters in the season's final weeks.

Mon Aug 19 202419:00Jacob deGrom To Make Four Rehab Starts
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) is expected to make four minor-league rehab starts before coming off the injured list, according to manager Bruce Bochy. The right-hander hasn't pitched all season long while he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery. The plan is for deGrom to make his first rehab start on Thursday or Friday at Double-A Frisco. If he sticks to his plan, deGrom would come off the around mid-September. That would give him a chance to make two or three starts in the big leagues before the end of the season. Although, the Rangers aren't exactly in playoff position, so there isn't a rush to get deGrom back on the mound. It's unlikely that deGrom offers much if any fantasy value for the rest of the season.
