Sat Apr 1900:48Trevor Story Mashes Pair Of Three-Run Homers
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story had a monster day at the dish on Friday, going 3-for-4 with a pair of homers, three runs scored, and six RBI. He started his day with a three-run bomb in the first inning, and then put a capper on it with another three-run shot in the seventh. Don't look now, but Story has a very impressive .321 AVG and .876 OPS to go along with 10 runs, five homers, 14 RBI, and six swipes. Fantasy managers have gotten all they could ask for and more from the late-round pick, and if he can stay healthy he should be a steal this season. He should be owned and started in all leagues at this point.

Sun Apr 1321:31Trevor Story Homers In Three-Hit Day
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story carried the offense on Sunday, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and three RBI in a 3-1 win over the White Sox. It was his third home run of the season, and he's now slashing .308/.328/.477 on the year. He's also shown great success on the base paths, collecting six steals thus far. He's struggled to stay healthy over the past few years, but he clearly still has that 20-20 upside that made him an elite shortstop for all those years in Colorado. He's worth an add in fantasy leagues as a solid middle infield option.

Thu Apr 1023:57Trevor Story Picks Up Two Hits, Two Steals In Walk-Off Win Over Blue Jays
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story went 2-for-5 with two singles, an RBI and two stolen bases in the team's 4-3 walk-off win against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday at Fenway Park, but it was his squibber off the end of the bat to second base with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning that ended up being the difference. Toronto second baseman Andres Gimenez bobbled the exchange to get the force out at home plate, allowing the winning run to score for the Red Sox. The 32-year-old Story is now hitting .264 on the season with a below-average .687 OPS in 14 games played, but he has turned it around since picking up only two hits in his first 15 at-bats. The two-time All-Star is trying to fend off shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer this year and hasn't played in over 100 games since 2021 due to injuries. Story's high strikeout rate will continue to be a problem if he can stay healthy.

Thu Apr 306:30Trevor Story Homers In Wednesday's Win
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story turned in a big game in a 3-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. Story went 3-for-4 with a solo homer to help power Boston to the victory over their division rivals. The veteran shortstop took Baltimore starter Zach Eflin deep in the second inning on a blast that traveled 394 feet with an exit velocity of 102.2 MPH. Story has been off to a slow start this season as he had just two hits coming into the game. He will hope his three-hit performance on Wednesday jump-starts his bat going forward.

Sun Mar 3013:21Trevor Story Sitting On Sunday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story is not in the starting lineup on Sunday when the Red Sox conclude a series against the Texas Rangers. Story has started each of the past three contests at shortstop. At the plate, Story went 1-for-11 with two runs, two stolen bases, and a 1:3 BB:K. As a result, David Hamilton will cover shortstop and bat eighth against Texas right-hander Jacob deGrom. Fantasy managers should expect Story to return to the starting nine on Monday when the team travels to Camden Yards to face the Baltimore Orioles. Story has battled numerous injuries over the past few seasons, but has performed well through the start of the season. He is a viable depth middle infielder in category formats, given his ability to steal bases and hit for power.

Fri Mar 2121:26Trevor Story Will Play On Saturday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (back), who was scratched from Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to lower-back tightness, will return to the lineup on Saturday against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays, according to manager Alex Cora. Story had a already previously missed a week of spring training action due to a back injury, but this time around it's clearly not as serious. Barring another setback to close out Grapefruit League action, the 32-year-old veteran should be good to go for Opening Day next Thursday. The two-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger winner has played in just 163 games in three seasons since joining Boston in 2022, though, which is why fantasy managers can't trust him as anything more than middle infield depth in deeper leagues because of his propensity for injury.

Fri Mar 2117:33Trevor Story Scratched With Lower-Back Tightness On Friday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (back) was scratched from Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to lower-back tightness, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford. He'll be replaced by Nick Sogard, who will start at shortstop and bat eighth in the lineup. While it's unclear if this is just the Red Sox being cautious, but it should be noted that the 32-year-old veteran already missed a week of spring action due to a back issue. With Opening Day less than a week away, there's no guarantee that Story will be ready to play next Thursday. If Story has to start the year on the injured list, David Hamilton could begin the year as Boston's primary shortstop, with prospect Kristian Campbell serving as the starting second baseman. The oft-injured Story is a hard sell as a middle-infield option in deep-mixed leagues because of his inability to stay on the field for long periods of time.

Sat Mar 1512:32Trevor Story Starting On Saturday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (back) is returning to the starting lineup on Saturday afternoon. The 32-year-old will cover shortstop and bat cleanup. Story was dealing with back tightness earlier in the week but will be making a quick return to the starting lineup. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status in case he faces a setback. Last season, Story was only able to appear in 26 contests due to a season-ending shoulder injury. During this brief stint, Story held a .255/.340/.394 line with seven doubles and two home runs. During the 2023 campaign, Story posted a .203/.250/.316 line across 43 games. Story has battled numerous injuries during his time in Boston but has been productive when on the field. He is worth a look as a late-round high-upside bench option in standard leagues.

Thu Mar 1316:09Trevor Story Takes Part In Simulated Game On Thursday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (back) has been out the last few days due to a mild back issue but returned on Thursday to take part in a simulated game in camp against right-hander Walker Buehler, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne. Story has not played in a Grapefruit League game since March 9 due to lower-back tightness, but it's nothing serious and he's expected to return to a spring game on Saturday. Barring a setback with his back, the 32-year-old veteran will open the 2025 regular season as the Red Sox's starting shortstop. The former first-rounder only played in 26 games in 2024 due to a shoulder injury that he suffered while diving for a ground ball. Injuries are part of the equation now for Story, as he hasn't played in over 94 games in his three years in Beantown. For that reason, he's viewed as middle-infield depth in mixed fantasy leagues.

Wed Mar 1215:06Trevor Story Day-To-Day, Likely To Return Saturday
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that shortstop Trevor Story (back) is day-to-day and will most likely return to the Grapefruit League lineup on Saturday against the Atlanta Braves. As a precaution, the Red Sox scratched the oft-injured Story from the spring lineup on Tuesday due to back tightness. The 32-year-old veteran said he's already feeling much better, though, and he should be back on the field this weekend. It makes no sense for Boston to rush him back with two weeks until Opening Day. The two-time All-Star has looked good in spring training with a .458 average (11-for-24) with two home runs, four doubles and six RBI in eight games after missing most of the 2024 season due to a shoulder injury that required surgery. Since joining Boston in 2022, Story has played in a total of 163 games, which makes him a big injury risk in fantasy.

Tue Mar 1119:03Trevor Story Expected To Return On Wednesday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (back) is expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday. The infielder was scratched from Tuesday's lineup out of precaution. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status, but this report suggests the injury was not serious and will not be in danger of missing time. Story has been swinging a hot bat during camp as he has gone deep twice and held a stellar .458/.480/.875 line across eight contests. Last season, the 32-year-old was only able to appear in 26 contests due to a shoulder injury. During this brief stint, Story held a .255/.340/.394 line with seven doubles and two long balls. In 2023, Story posted a modest .203/.250/.316 line across 43 games. When healthy, fantasy managers should expect Story to have an everyday role at shortstop in the Boston lineup.

Tue Mar 1113:07Trevor Story Scratched As Precaution With Back Tightness
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (back) was scratched as a precaution from Tuesday's Grapefruit League lineup against the Philadelphia Phillies due to mild upper-back tightness. In his place, shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer will make the start for the BoSox. It's not a serious injury for Story, but with Opening Day just a few weeks away, it's something to watch for a player that miss the majority of last season with a shoulder injury. The 32-year-old has gone 11-for-24 with two home runs, four doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored in eight spring training games to this point and will be the team's starting shortstop in 2025 as long as he's healthy. Because of the fact that Story has only played 163 total games since joining Boston in 2022, he's ranked as RotoBaller's No. 20 fantasy shortstop. Injuries have taken their toll.UPDATE: Manager Alex Cora expects Story to be back in the spring lineup on Wednesday.

Thu Sep 19 202411:30Trevor Story Homers, Swipes Bag On Wednesday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two runs scored, and a pair of stolen bases in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Rays. It was the third multi-hit game in the last five for the 31-year-old, although he was hitless in the other two games, and is hitting .286 (10-for-35) with two home runs, four RBI, five runs scored, and four stolen bases since coming off of the IL on September 7. The veteran gave fantasy managers high hopes coming into the season healthy and having a strong spring, but it has been a lost season after missing most of the season with a dislocated shoulder. Hopefully he'll finish on a high note and take that momentum into 2025.

Sat Sep 7 202418:10Trevor Story Officially Activated, Starting At Shortstop On Saturday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (shoulder) was officially activated from the 60-day IL on Saturday and will start at shortstop in Boston's matchup against the Chicago White Sox. Story is set to bat seventh against White Sox lefty Garrett Crochet. The 31-year-old has been out since early April after injuring his shoulder diving for a ball in just his eighth game of the season. His return comes at an opportune time for Boston as the Red Sox fight to gain a wild card spot. Currently 5.0 GB of a spot, Boston will need Story to perform at his 2022 levels (102 OPS+) and not what he was in 2023 (53 OPS+). Fantasy managers that are looking for help at shortstop shouldn't hesitate to add Story to their rosters, though they should exercise caution as he works back from injury. Managers with Ceddanne Rafaela should be aware that Rafaela will lose playing time with Story's return but shouldn't cut him yet as he could slide back into short if Story falters.

Fri Sep 6 202417:20Trevor Story Expected To Return On Saturday
The Boston Red Sox are expected to activate shortstop Trevor Story (shoulder) from the 60-day injured on Saturday and put him into the lineup immediately at shortstop at Fenway Park against the Chicago White Sox and left-hander Garrett Crochet. When Story went down early in the year with a serious shoulder injury while diving for a ball at shortstop, it was considered more of a long shot that he'd return in 2024, but here we are. The 31-year-old veteran will return as Boston's starting shortstop for the stretch run as the BoSox fight for the final wild-card spot in the American League. With Story set to return this weekend, the Red Sox will move Ceddanne Rafaela to second base. Fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting the oft-injured Story to be a difference-maker at the plate in the fantasy postseason after such a long layoff.

Tue Sep 3 202412:12Trevor Story Plays Defense On Monday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (shoulder) played shortstop in a minor-league rehab game with Triple-A Worcester on Monday and went 0-for-3 at the plate. Story came out of the game after five innings, but it was the first time he had played shortstop since starting his rehab assignment on Sunday, when he served as the designated hitter. The 31-year-old veteran has gone 2-for-7 at the plate in his first two games with Worcester but is probably going to need plenty more rehab games before potentially being an option for the major-league roster towards the end of September. With time quickly running out in the regular season, fantasy managers can't realistically expect Story to make any kind of impact once he returns. In 31 at-bats earlier this year, Story was hitting .226 with no homers, four RBI and one stolen base.

Fri Aug 30 202421:10Trevor Story To Start Rehab Assignment On Sunday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (shoulder) is set to start as the designated hitter for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. Story will then start at shortstop on Monday, take Tuesday off and then work full speed toward a return to the majors after that. This will mark the first game action for the 31-year-old since he fractured his shoulder in April. His start to the season was underwhelming, hitting just .226 in 31 AB before hitting the IL. On the heels of another injury-shortened season in 2023, fantasy managers certainly will have their concerns about Story's health going forward. However, current shortstop Ceddanne Rafaela has provided spotty production for the Red Sox, leaving the door open for Story to get consistent at-bats if he's able to return in the last few weeks of the season. Fantasy managers needing help at the shortstop position in the playoff run probably won't need to look Story's way, but in deeper leagues there may be an opportunity to stash him on your bench if needed.

Fri Aug 23 202419:28Trevor Story Hopes To Begin Rehab Assignment In September
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (shoulder) said sometime in September is the target date for him to go on a minor-league rehab assignment. The Red Sox will likely map something out soon, but there is no firm start date. The fact that Story is even thinking about a return in 2024 is positive news after he suffered a fractured left shoulder diving for a ball at shortstop in mid-April. The 31-year-old veteran required surgery but has already taken batting practice and is doing other baseball activities as he prepares to go on a rehab assignment soon. However, even if Story doesn't suffer any kind of setbacks during his rehab assignment, there's no guarantee that he'll be of use again to fantasy managers down the stretch. Boston will almost assuredly shut Story down if they are eliminated from playoff contention. Expect Ceddanne Rafaela to continue serving as the team's primary shortstop for the foreseeable future.

Mon Aug 19 202420:35Trevor Story Ramping Up In Boston
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (shoulder) continues to ramp up his activity in Boston. Story appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from a devastating fractured left shoulder that he suffered early on in 2024, although there is no clear timetable and it remains to be seen if there's an actual chance that he can return to Boston's lineup if they somehow make it into the postseason as a wild-card team in the American League. Our best guess is that the 31-year-old won't make it back in 2024, but it's nice to see that he's making great progress. Story only managed to play in eight games for the BoSox in his third year with the team and has fallen pretty far since his back-to-back All-Star campaigns with the Colorado Rockies in 2018 and 2019. Ceddanne Rafaela has seen the bulk of playing time at the 6 in Boston this year and has provided some decent power and speed for fantasy managers with 13 bombs and 17 stolen bases in 435 at-bats.

Fri Aug 9 202416:52Trevor Story To Take Batting Practice On Monday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (shoulder) is going to take batting practice on the field on Monday. "It's a huge step. I'm truly believing he'll be a part of this," manager Alex Cora said. Nothing is guaranteed, but Story appears to be well ahead of schedule after having surgery for a fractured left shoulder in the middle of April, and the Red Sox aren't ruling him out for the rest of the season. Fantasy managers shouldn't get their hopes up, though, and there's still no timetable for a potential return. In all reality, the Red Sox would probably have to get into the playoffs and make a deep postseason run for the 31-year-old to have a shot at returning. Until Story is able to return either this year or next, the Red Sox will continue to roll with a combination of David Hamilton and Ceddanne Rafaela at the 6 in Beantown.
