Wed Mar 2622:03Brooks Baldwin, Travis Jankowski, Nick Maton Make Opening Day Roster
Chicago White Sox middle infielder Brooks Baldwin, outfielder Travis Jankowski and second baseman Nick Maton have all made the Opening Day roster. Prospect Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth will start in the minors, so the White Sox plan on mixing and matching at shortstop to begin the season. Jacob Amaya is probably the favorite for most of the playing time at the 6, but the 24-year-old Baldwin should serve in a utility infield role. He hit just .211 with two homers, eight RBI and four steals in 33 games in his major-league debut in 2024. Jankowski, 33, latched on with the Pale Hose after being cut by the Cubs in spring training. With Mike Tauchman (hamstring) starting on the injured list, he could see some starts in the outfield against right-handers, but Jankowski has little fantasy upside. Maton, 28, had a strong spring and will serve as middle-infield depth to begin the 2025 campaign.

Wed Mar 1215:30White Sox Agree With Travis Jankowski On Minor-League Deal
The Chicago White Sox announced on Wednesday that they agreed to terms with free-agent outfielder Travis Jankowski on a minor-league deal that includes a non-roster invite to big-league spring training. The Chicago Cubs signed Jankowski to a minor-league deal earlier this spring, but they reassigned him to minor-league camp on Sunday and then asked for his release. The 33-year-old veteran outfielder will now try to make the major-league roster with the rebuilding White Sox, although he'll have little time to impress the coaching staff in Cactus League games. Jankowski slashed a lowly .200/.266/.242 with a homer and 11 stolen bases in 104 games with the Texas Rangers last year. However, he does have 10 years of MLB experience and could win a platoon role in the outfield with both Andrew Benintendi and Austin Slater questionable for the start of the 2025 regular season due to injuries.

Sun Mar 917:07Travis Jankowski Optioned To Minors
Chicago Cubs outfielder Travis Jankowski was part of a handful of cuts made on Sunday. The veteran outfielder has been reassigned to minor-league camp as the Cubs continue to trim down their roster. He joined the team as a non-roster invitee, but it doesn't appear he has impressed enough to remain with the big league club. Last season, Jankowski slashed .200/.266/.242 with 12 RBI and 11 stolen bases across 104 games with the Texas Rangers. It's unclear if Jankowski will remain in the minor leagues with the Cubs or ask for his release, so he can attempt to play elsewhere.

Fri Feb 2119:23Travis Jankowski Signs Contract With Cubs
Outfielder Travis Jankowski signed a contract with the Chicago Cubs. Jankowski has spent the past two seasons of his career with the Texas Rangers. He won a World Series in Texas during the 2023 campaign. During that season, he held a solid .263/.357/.322 line with 12 doubles, one home run, and 19 stolen bases. However, during the 2024 campaign, Jankowski saw his production decline as he posted a much lower .200/.266/.242 slash line. He tallied just five doubles and one home run across 104 contests. He generated a weak .241 xwOBA and a 24.2 percent hard-hit rate which were both well below the average marks. Fantasy managers should expect the 33-year-old to operate as a depth outfielder in the system. He will compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster during spring training, but given his play last season, he will likely open the campaign at Triple-A.

Fri Jan 26 202420:10Rangers Bringing Back Travis Jankowski
Texas Rangers general manager Chris Young announced on Friday that the team is re-signing outfielder Travis Jankowski to a one-year, $1.7 million deal plus performance bonuses for the 2024 season. Jankowski will return to give the World Series-champion Rangers outfield depth for the upcoming campaign. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter batted .263/.357/.332 with a home run, 30 RBI, 12 doubles, a triple, 19 stolen bases and 34 runs scored in 107 regular-season games in his first year with Texas. Speed is Jankowski's greatest asset, but as a bench bat for Texas, he won't really be of much use to fantasy managers in mixed leagues to open the year.

Fri Jan 26 202414:13Rangers, Travis Jankowski Nearing Reunion
The Texas Rangers and outfielder Travis Jankowski are reportedly nearing a deal that will see the speedy veteran return to the Rangers for the 2024 season. The 32-year-old ended up becoming an important piece for the World Champs in 2023 as he appeared in 107 games, the most he's played in since 2018. He hit .263 with one homer, 19 stolen bases, and a quality 12.2% BB% in that time, scoring 34 runs and striking out in just 14.6% of his plate appearances, the best mark of his nine-year big-league career. The 32-year-old is a career .241 hitter with just 10 home runs in 577 big-league appearances but he also has 91 stolen bases, a 10.7% BB%, and solid glove work that make him a quality utility player.

Wed Nov 1 202316:28Travis Jankowski Making Another Start In Game 5
The Texas Rangers don't really have any reason to change up their lineup after putting up 11 runs in the victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday. Now that outfielder Adolis Garcia (oblique) is off the World Series roster, Travis Jankowski will make a second straight start in right field on Wednesday and will hit ninth against Arizona right-hander Zac Gallen. Jankowski went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Game 4 in his first postseason start and he's batting .500 (3-for-6) in six playoff appearances for the Rangers this year. Although the 32-year-old has limited DFS upside in the nine-hole, he has gone 3-for-9 in his career against Gallen with a triple, an RBI and three strikeouts.

Tue Aug 8 202321:22Travis Jankowski Sitting Again Tuesday
Texas Rangers outfielder Travis Jankowski is absent from the lineup on Tuesday against left-hander JP Sears and the Oakland Athletics. The 32-year-old has started just one of the club's last five games, three coming against lefties. Jankowski has hit for a .291 average with one home run and 16 steals over 73 games but remains in a platoon thanks to a .190 career average off of southpaws. Sam Huff will take his spot in the lineup as the designated hitter, batting eighth. The backstop is slashing .200/.250/.333 across 14 games this year, but owns a career .253 average and .738 OPS and went deep 14 times over 54 contests in Triple-A this season. As a streaming option, Huff can provide fantasy managers with decent numbers.

Wed Jun 21 202323:58Travis Jankowski Leaves Game Early With Potential Injury
Texas Rangers outfielder Travis Jankowski had to be removed from the game due to a possible injury against the White Sox Wednesday. He slid awkwardly into second base, resulting in an inning-ending double play. To start the bottom of the eighth inning, Josh Smith took over Jankowski's position in left field. Following the game's conclusion, there is expected to be an update regarding his condition and status. The 32-year-old only provides a little pop at the plate, but his speed is an asset in deeper fantasy leagues.

Tue May 9 202314:10Rangers Put Travis Jankowski On 10-Day Injured List
The Texas Rangers placed outfielder Travis Jankowski (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 8) on Tuesday with a right-hamstring strain and recalled catcher Sam Huff from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Jankowski suffered a mild hamstring injury in the win over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday, so he should be able to come off the injured list when he's eligible on May 19. The 31-year-old speedster offers little with the bat but is useful in deeper fantasy leagues for his speed. In 25 games in his first year in Texas, he's hitting .309 (21-for-68) with five doubles, a triple, no home runs, nine RBI and five stolen bases. With Jankowski on the shelf, Robbie Grossman and Bubba Thompson will battle for playing time in left field in Texas.

Tue May 9 202308:20Travis Jankowski Likely Going On The Shelf
Texas Rangers outfielder Travis Jankowski (hamstring) is probably headed to the injured list with a hamstring injury, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. The 31-year-old sat out of Monday's contest after he was removed from Sunday's game with the ailment. Jankowski is in the midst of the best offensive campaign of his career, slashing .309/.382/.412 with 14 runs, nine RBI, and five stolen bases over 25 games. He's earned the starting left-field job with his solid play, and fantasy owners will miss his contributions until he's back on the field. The Rangers have a few options on their bench to replace Jankowski, in the likes of Bubba Thompson, Josh H. Smith, and Brad Miller, all of which have limited fantasy value.

Mon May 8 202318:28Travis Jankowski Sitting Out Monday
Texas Rangers outfielder Travis Jankowski is out of Monday's starting lineup against the Seattle Mariners with a hamstring injury. Jankowski was removed from Sunday's contest early with what appeared to be a tight hamstring as he looked awkward heading back to the dugout after crossing home plate in the second inning. The veteran has been a nice addition for the Rangers as he is hitting .309 with a 9.1% BB% and five stolen bases across 25 appearances on the campaign. Robbie Grossman will take over in left field and bat second against Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert Monday night in Seattle.

Fri Apr 28 202312:29Travis Jankowski Targeting A Friday Return
Texas Rangers outfielder Travis Jankowski (hip) felt he was in "a good spot" on Thursday after leaving Wednesday's series finale against the Cincinnati Reds with left-hip tightness. Jankowski said a trip to the injured list is "unlikely" and thinks he'll be an option to return to Friday's lineup. "Maybe one day I'll learn. But I see a ball go up, I'm like a dog -- I have to go get it," Jankowski said. In a part-time role for the Rangers so far in 2023, the 31-year-old is hitting .340 with an .862 OPS, three doubles, a triple, five RBI, four stolen bases and 10 runs scored in only 18 games played. He has very little fantasy value in AL-only leagues because of his limited playing time, and he's mostly just useful for his speed.

Wed Apr 26 202314:16Travis Jankowski Leaves Early On Wednesday
Texas Rangers outfielder Travis Jankowski has left Wednesday's game against the Reds early due to left hip tightness. Jankowski was seemingly injured after diving for a ball in the outfield and was replaced by Leody Taveras who took over in center field and hit second in the lineup in Jankowski's stead. It's been a scorching-hot start for the speedy Jankowski even if he lacks power. Prior to Wednesday, he was hitting .356 with four stolen bases across 51 trips to the plate. According to wRC+, his bat has been 58% superior to the league average as he's also walked in 11.8% of his plate appearance with a quality 17.6% K% to boot.

Wed Mar 29 202316:55Travis Jankowski Expected To Make Opening Day Roster
Texas Rangers outfielder Travis Jankowski is expected to make the Opening Day roster as a bench player with Leody Taveras (oblique) set to open up the 2023 regular season on the injured list with a left oblique strain. Jankowski will mostly be useful for his defense and speed on the basepaths off the bench for the Rangers, but fantasy managers in mixed leagues can ignore him for now. The 31-year-old left-handed hitter spent the 2022 campaign with the New York Mets and Seattle Mariners, hitting a combined .164/.281/.164 with no home runs, two RBI, 11 runs scored and three steals in 44 games. In his eight big-league seasons, he's produced a weak .236/.319/.310 slash line with a .630 OPS, nine home runs, 54 RBI and 72 stolen bases in 470 games.

Sun Jan 29 202322:35Travis Jankowski Signs Minor-League Deal With Rangers
The Texas Rangers and outfielder Travis Jankowski agreed to a minor-league deal with a non-roster invitation to the big-league camp. In 2022 the 31-year-old played for the New York Mets and Seattle Mariners. With the Mets, Jankowski collected a 35 OPS+ with just a .445 OPS through 63 plate appearances. He was picked up by the Mariners and made just one plate appearance in the pros before Seattle DFA'd him four days later. The former first-rounder is valued mainly for his defensive attributes, and his bat isn't worth much. He will likely spend the bulk of his 2023 campaign in the minors, but he could make an impact for the Rangers if a replacement is needed. Jankowski is not on the fantasy radar in 2023.

Sat Aug 6 202211:46Travis Jankowski Designated For Assignment
The Seattle Mariners designated outfielder Travis Jankowski for assignment on Friday in order to make room for newly acquired infielder/outfielder Jake Lamb. Lamb, a Seattle native, wasn't in the lineup on Friday against Los Angeles Angels left-hander Patrick Sandoval, but he'll likely be used regularly against right-handed pitchers, against whom he has an .808 OPS this year. He'll likely play a corner outfield spot and third base on days that Eugenio Suarez is rested. Jankowski was primarily used as a defensive replacement and a pinch-runner in his time with Seattle and he appeared in just one game. In 43 games with the New York Mets this year, he was 9-for-55 (.164) with no homers, two RBI and three stolen bases.

Fri May 27 202216:07Travis Jankowski Has Surgery On Fractured Hand
New York Mets outfielder Travis Jankowski (hand) had surgery on Friday to fix a metacarpal fracture on his left hand. The Mets placed him on the 10-day injured list, and he's expected to miss six to eight weeks. In corresponding moves, the team recalled right-handed pitchers Stephen Nogosek and Yoan Lopez from the minors. Jankowski had been serving as a bench outfielder for the Mets and therefore wasn't of much use to fantasy managers. He had been hitting .209 (9-for-43) with no home runs, two RBI, 11 runs scored and three stolen bases in 33 games played.

Tue Apr 5 202209:22Travis Jankowski To Travel With Mets To Washington
New York Mets outfielder Travis Jankowski will be traveling with the team to Washington ahead of the club's season-opening four-game series against the Nationals. This means that Jankowski will be part of the team's Opening Day roster. The 30-year-old signed a minor league deal with the Mets in March and he has seen a lot of playing time this spring. Over 11 spring games, he's slashing .235/.409/.235 with no extra-base hits. Jankowski has been a journeyman the past few years. Last year, he appeared in 76 games with the Philadelphia Phillies and slashed .252/.364/.351 with one home run, five stolen bases and 24 runs. He'll be a reserve outfielder with the club to start the year.

Thu Mar 17 202210:24Mets Sign Travis Jankowski
The New York Mets signed free-agent outfielder Travis Jankowski to a minor league deal with an invite to spring camp on Thursday. Jankowski spent the 2021 season with the Philadelphia Phillies and hit .252/.364/.351 with a homer, 10 RBI and five stolen bases in 157 plate appearances over 76 games. The 30-year-old spent the first five seasons of his career with the San Diego Padres before joining the Phillies and Cincinnati Reds the last two years. He's a career .239 hitter with only nine home runs, 52 RBI and 69 stolen bases in 426 games over seven big-league seasons. Jankowski can offer a bit of speed if he's in the starting lineup, but he'll mostly function as outfield depth for the Mets in 2022.
