Mon Jul 15 2024 | 12:02 | Angels Release Miguel Sano |
The Los Angeles Angels released third baseman Miguel Sano over the weekend after he went unclaimed off waivers. Sano will now have the All-Star break this week to look for another organization to latch onto as corner-infield depth. After not playing in the big leagues at all in 2023, Sano made the Angels roster out of spring training this year but hit just .205/.295/.313 with a .608 OPS, two home runs, six RBI and 36 strikeouts in 95 trips to the plate over 28 games for the Halos before being designated for assignment. He became expendable once Anthony Rendon returned from a lengthy stint on the injured list in the first half of the season. Sano does have two 30-homer seasons in his career, but he'll likely have to settle for a minor-league deal elsewhere as he tries to work his way back to the big leagues. |

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Miguel Sano (knee) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. The veteran slugger is back in the mix following a two-month absence due to a left knee injury. Sano hasn't brought much to the table this season with one home run and five RBI in 21 games. In a corresponding move, infielder Michael Stefanic has been optioned to the minors. |

Thu May 30 2024 | 16:17 | Miguel Sano Pulled From Rehab Assignment, Has No Timetable To Return |
Los Angeles Angels infielder Miguel Sano (knee) was returned from his minor-league rehab assignment after the burn that he suffered from a heating pad did not heal. Sano took the protection off of a heating pad to make it hotter and burned himself, and he's now headed back to Anaheim with no timetable for a return. The 31-year-old corner infielder initially landed on the injured list with a left-knee injury and now has suffered a setback due to his burn. He'll now get some time to heal up before eventually restarting his minor-league rehab assignment. Before the injury, Sano was hitting .262 (16-for-61) but with just one home run and five RBI in his first year with the Angels. In his absence, veteran Luis Guillorme and Luis Rengifo have been splitting time at third base for the team. |

Tue May 14 2024 | 23:03 | Miguel Sano Still Bothered By Knee |
Los Angeles Angels infielder/designated hitter Miguel Sano (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 1 with left-knee inflammation in his surgically repaired knee after leaving games early on April 24 and 26 with left-knee soreness. Sano has been taking ground balls, but his knee continues to bother him when he swings a bat. The 31-year-old is not going to be ready to return from the injured list anytime soon. Willie Calhoun could continue to see at-bats as the Halos' designated hitter until/if Sano is able to return. The Angels are pretty beat up on the infield, but they could be getting Luis Rengifo (illness) back this weekend to play third base regularly. Before injuring his surgically repaired knee, Sano was hitting .262 (16-for-61) with a homer and five RBI in his first 21 games with the organization. Sano didn't play at all in 2023. |

Wed May 1 2024 | 17:13 | Angels Put Miguel Sano On 10-Day Injured List |
The Los Angeles Angels placed corner infielder Miguel Sano (knee) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 28) on Wednesday and selected the contract of outfielder Willie Calhoun from the minors in a corresponding move. Right-hander Zac Kristofak was also designated for assignment. Sano hasn't played since last Friday due to left-knee inflammation and will now miss more time. The 30-year-old former Twin has gotten off to a decent start with a .262 average (16-for-61) in his first year with the Halos, but his signature power has yet to show up. Sano has gone deep just once and has driven in only five runs before injuring his knee. Until Sano returns, Luis Rengifo should play daily for the Angels at either third base or second base. |

Mon Apr 29 2024 | 18:36 | Miguel Sano To Miss Another Game |
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Miguel Sano (knee) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The right-handed slugger is still dealing with a lingering knee issue that forced him to exit early last Wednesday. He was able to return to the lineup later in the week but sat out on both Saturday and Sunday. The hope is that Sano will be able to avoid a trip to the injured list. Ehire Adrianza will cover third base during Monday's game. |

Sun Apr 28 2024 | 13:08 | Miguel Sano Dealing With Minor Injury |
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Miguel Sano (knee) is still banged up after being pulled from Wednesday's game due to left knee soreness. The right-handed slugger was able to play on Friday but then sat out on Saturday. Sano had an MRI on his knee, which revealed inflammation in his left knee. The organization is currently considering Sano as day-to-day right now. Luis Rengifo figures to see additional playing time until Sano is ready again. |

Tue Mar 26 2024 | 19:44 | Miguel Sano Makes Opening Day Roster |
Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington confirmed on Tuesday that first baseman Miguel Sano has made the team's Opening Day roster. "He's very deserving," Washington said. Sano is looking to bounce back in the big leagues with the Angels in 2024 after not playing at all in 2023. The former All-Star with the Minnesota Twins in 2017 reportedly lost 58 pounds in the offseason after playing just 20 games in his final year in Minnesota in 2022 due to a knee injury. The 30-year-old right-handed slugger has reached the 30-homer mark twice in his career, including his last full season in 2021, but he's never hit for average and is a pretty big injury risk as he looks to help fill some of the Halos' designated hitter at-bats this year. At best, he's an AL-only flier for some power to begin the year. |

Tue Jan 23 2024 | 19:18 | Miguel Sano Agrees To Join Angels |
Free-agent corner infielder/designated hitter Miguel Sano and the Los Angeles Angels agreed to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training on Tuesday, according to sources. Sano is currently playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic after not playing last summer. The Halos are taking a low-cost flier on a 30-year-old right-handed power bat as they seek more offense heading into the 2024 season. Sano played in only 20 games in his last season in the bigs in 2022 with the Minnesota Twins, battled knee injuries and went 5-for-60 (.083) with one homer and three RBI. If he's healthy, Sano will compete for at-bats in the designated hitter role vacated when two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani signed with the crosstown-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Sano reached the 30-homer mark in both 2019 and 2021, but expecting him to return to that level is probably a pipe dream. |

Fri Feb 3 2023 | 13:47 | Miguel Sano Hosting Workout Next Week |
Former Minnesota Twins first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Sano will host a workout for scouts next Tuesday in Tampa, Florida. Sano became a free agent when the Twins declined his option last November for the 2023 season. A knee injury limited the 29-year-old slugger to just 71 plate appearances in 2022, and he hit just .083/.211/.133 with a .345 OPS, one home run, three RBI, one run scored and a stolen base in 20 games played. However, Sano reached the 30-homer mark as recently as 2021, so his raw power could attract some teams with spring training approaching if he can prove he's over the knee injury that slowed him down last year. |

Wed Nov 9 2022 | 01:00 | Twins Decline Miguel Sano's Club Option Monday |
The Minnesota Twins declined first/third baseman Miguel Sano's $14.25 million club option Monday, per MLB's Do-Hyoung Park. The option included a $2.75 million buyout. Sano signed a three-year, $30 million extension with the Twins after hitting 34 homers in 2019, and while he did hit 30 HR in 2021, he hasn't hit above .223 since signing the extension and played just 20 games in 2022 due to a left knee injury. The 29-year-old and former top prospect has always been a source of power for fantasy managers, but high strikeout rates and low batting averages have limited his overall value. The free agent will now look for a new opportunity with another team. |

Sat Jul 30 2022 | 18:31 | Max Kepler, Miguel Sano Head To IL |
Minnesota Twins outfielder Max Kepler (toe) and first baseman Miguel Sano (knee) were placed on the 10-day IL Saturday. Kepler had missed the last three games with a toe injury that is now known to be a fractured right pinkie toe. After a hot start at the dish, he has cooled down with just four homers and an OPS below .700 since May 1. Sano had played in just three games since returning from surgery to repair his left knee meniscus, and it's that same knee that is causing him to head back to the IL. Neither player needs to be held onto in any fantasy format. Alex Kirilloff and Gilberto Celestino will likely cover for Kepler in right field, while Luis Arraez and Jose Miranda will take turns playing first in Sano's absence. |

Tue Jul 26 2022 | 18:53 | Miguel Sano Activated, Batting Ninth In His Return |
The Minnesota Twins have activated first baseman Miguel Sano (knee) from the 60-day injured list. He will be batting ninth in his return to action in Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Sano was sidelined for about three months after undergoing meniscus surgery on his left knee. He was struggling immensely before the injury, slashing just .093/.231/.148 over 17 games. He'll need to bounce back from that rough start to the season soon as the Twins have more competition for playing time now with both Alex Kirilloff and Jose Miranda coming around at the plate lately. |

Mon Jul 25 2022 | 21:10 | Miguel Sano Activated From Injured List Monday |
Minnesota Twins first baseman Miguel Sano (knee) was activated from the 60-day injured list on Monday. Sano had been on the injured list after having meniscus surgery on his left knee early in May. The Twins optioned Gilberto Celestino back to Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move to make room for Sano on the big-league roster. Sano is hitting just .093 with one homer and three RBI across 54 at-bats in 2022. He may struggle to see everyday at-bats with the Twins unless there's an injury ahead of him. |

Wed Jun 22 2022 | 18:45 | Miguel Sano To Take Batting Practice Soon |
Minnesota Twins first baseman Miguel Sano (knee) will begin taking batting practice at some point next week. He has been sidelined since early May due to a torn meniscus in his left knee. The right-handed slugger underwent surgery and continues to work his way back to the field. Sano has been doing running drills and started hitting drills as well. However, next week will be the first time he has taken batting practice since his injury. There is no timetable for Sano, but the hope is that he can return at some point in July. |

Tue May 3 2022 | 17:09 | Miguel Sano Needs Surgery On Knee |
Minnesota Twins first baseman Miguel Sano (knee) will undergo surgery later this week to fix a torn meniscus in his knee, according to manager Rocco Baldelli. The Twins won't have a timetable for his return until after the surgery is complete, but it's obvious that the right-handed slugger will be out for an extended amount of time. The 29-year-old's knee issue had been bothering him over the last week and he had played in just one of the team's previous five games before landing on the injured list. Sano was hitting a measly .093 with a 32.3% strikeout rate in 65 plate appearances before going on the IL, so he won't be guaranteed regular playing time whenever he's able to return. In the meantime, expect the Twins to go with a platoon at first base between Luis Arraez and infield prospect Jose Miranda. |

Mon May 2 2022 | 21:17 | Miguel Sano May Need Surgery |
Minnesota Twins first baseman Miguel Sano (knee) hit the injured list on Monday, retroactive to May 1, after experiencing soreness in his knee on Saturday. Manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters on Monday that Sano may need a surgical procedure on the knee with the team expected to make a decision in the next few days. The team called up prospect Jose Miranda on Sunday to take Sano's roster spot while Luis Arraez should see the majority of the starts at first base with Sano sidelined. Sano was off to a rough start in 2022, hitting just .093 with one homer and three RBI thus far. |

Mon May 2 2022 | 08:40 | Miguel Sano Headed To The Injured List |
The Minnesota Twins will be placing first baseman Miguel Sano (knee) on the 10-day injured list. Additionally, catcher Jose Godoy will be optioned to Triple-A. This pair of moves will enable the team to trim its roster from 28 players down to 26. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli revealed these intentions to reporters on Sunday evening. Sano has been hampered by left knee soreness. The injury caused him to miss four of the team's last five games. It's been a rough year so far for the 28-year-old slugger, who is slashing just .093/.231/.148 with one home run over 17 games. |

Sun May 1 2022 | 06:25 | Miguel Sano Exits Early, Has Setback With Sore Knee |
Minnesota Twins first baseman Miguel Sano (knee) left Saturday's game in the seventh inning against the Tampa Bay Rays after suffering a setback with his sore knee. He went 0-for-2 with a walk and two strikeouts before leaving. On Saturday, the 29-year-old was back in the lineup after missing three games with knee soreness, but he was pulled early after Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said the pain returned. He remains day-to-day and might require a trip to the injured list to recover from his knee issue fully. Sano has been disappointing this season, slashing .093/.231/.148 with one homer and three RBI over 65 plate appearances in 2022. Luis Arraez would see an uptick in at-bats and handle first-base duties while Sano is sidelined. Arraez is a speculative add in most league formats after slashing .317/.386/.397 over 20 games in 2022. |

Thu Apr 28 2022 | 16:09 | Miguel Sano Getting Treatment On His Knee |
Minnesota Twins first baseman Miguel Sano (knee) has been out of the lineup for each of the past two games. On Thursday afternoon, we received an update on why he's been held out. Sano reportedly tweaked his knee during the game-ending rundown on Tuesday. Twins reporter Do-Hyoung Park provided this update and also reported that Sano is getting treatment on his knee on Thursday. Luis Arraez has covered first base for two straight games with Sano out and even went up against a left-hander, Detroit Tigers starter Tarik Skubal, on Thursday. |
