Minnesota Twins right-hander Michael Tonkin (shoulder) is scheduled to make a minor-league rehab appearance on Friday with Low-A Fort Myers. Tonkin is recovering from a strained right shoulder that landed him on the 15-day injured list to begin the 2025 regular season. The 35-year-old veteran is working his way back, though, and should be able to make his season debut before the end of April, barring a setback on his rehab assignment. He spent the 2024 season with the Twins, New York Mets and New York Yankees, posting a combined 3.63 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, a career-high two saves, a career-high 85 strikeouts and 30 walks in 79 1/3 relief innings. Tonkin lacks the velocity to be much of a strikeout artist out of the bullpen, making him pretty much useless in fantasy.

The former 30th-round pick of the Twins way back in 2008 should return to a middle-relief role in Minnesota this next season but won't have a ton of fantasy value.

Free-agent right-hander Michael Tonkin agreed to a one-year, $1 million major-league deal with the New York Mets on Tuesday, according to a source. Tonkin was nothing spectacular in 2023, but it was his return to the majors for the first time in six seasons. The 34-year-old veteran pitched for the Atlanta Braves and had a 4.28 ERA (4.43 FIP) and 1.09 WHIP with 23 walks and 75 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched over 45 relief appearances. Tonkin isn't going to be on the fantasy radar whatsoever and will most likely start the 2024 season providing long relief for the Mets' bullpen. In six major-league seasons (five with the Minnesota Twins), Tonkin has a 4.37 ERA (4.52 FIP) and 1.31 WHIP in 226 1/3 relief innings.

RHP Michael Tonkin was recalled from Triple-A Rochester by the Minnesota Twins. Tonkin is back for a second stint with Minnesota this season after making the opening -day roster and posting a 10.64 ERA in nine appearances covering 11 total innings. He went 4-2 with a 1.73 ERA in 31 appearances for Rochester.

RHP Michael Tonkin was sent outright to Triple-A Rochester after being designated for assignment on May 6. In nine appearances this season, the right-hander went 0-1 with a 6.55 ERA. He allowed eight earned runs on 14 hits and 10 walks with 13 strikeouts in 11 innings with the Twins this season.

RHP Michael Tonkin, who gave up one run on two hits and three walks in 1 1/3 innings Saturday, was designated for assignment by the Twins after the game. Tonkin had a 6.55 ERA in nine appearances this season. He was taken out of the game in the ninth Saturday as catcher Chris Gimenez came on to get the final two outs. Tonkin was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune reports.

He was optioned down to make way for Tommy Milone, who will start Sunday after spending time on the DL with a flexor strain. Tonkin's most recent appearance in the majors was brief, pitching 0.2 innings in Friday's game against the Indians. He gave up one run on two hits and didn't look entirely comfortable on the mound. That being said, he did manage to compile a pleasant 1.29 ERA in 35 innings at Triple-A Rochester and could be one of a handful of Twins' relievers in prime position for a September call-up.

Tonkin was recalled from Triple-A on Friday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press reports.

Tonkin will return from Rochester for the first time since June, taking the roster spot of Blaine Boyer, who was placed on the DL Friday with elbow inflammation. At Triple-A, Tonkin holds a tidy 1.29 ERA while limiting batters to just a .168 average. He also boasts a 41:5 K:BB in 35 total innings.

Tonkin was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Tyler Mason of Fox Sports North reports.

Tonkin allowed a grand slam to Dexter Fowler in his last outing, raising his ERA from 4.50 to 5.73. Although only two of those runs were earned, it was still the fourth home run Tonkin his allowed in 11 innings of work this season. The Twins have the day off Thursday and will wait until Friday to make a corresponding roster move.

Tonkin was recalled, Tyler Mason of Fox Sports North reports.

Tonkin has made 12 appearances so far this season with the Twins in multiple stints with the team. He has a 5.63 ERA in eight innings with seven strikeouts. Tim Stauffer was designated for assignment after allowing a 6.60 ERA in 13 appearances with Minnesota.

Tonkin was optioned back to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday.

He served as the 26th man for Wednesday's doubleheader and will be sent down prior to Thursday's game. Look for Tonkin to continue to provide organizational bullpen depth.

Tonkin will be recalled and serve as the 26th man on the roster for Wednesday's doubleheader against Boston, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Tonkin will likely be sent down after the game, but he could stay on the roster if Ricky Nolasco goes on the DL with a sore ankle.

Tonkin was optioned to Triple-A Rochester.

Tonkin gave up two home runs in seven innings that led to a 5.14 ERA in his short stint with the Twins since he was called up in late April. He had a 7: K:BB ratio, so his strikeout ability should get him back to the majors at some point this summer.
