Tue Apr 805:24Jose Altuve Homers, Steals A Base Monday
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve went 1-for-3 with a homer, a walk, two runs, and a stolen base in a 4-3 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Monday. Altuve ripped a solo homer off Seattle starter Logan Gilbert in the sixth inning, a shot that traveled 402 feet with an exit velocity of 107 MPH. The veteran is off to a fast start in 2025, hitting .357 with three homers, nine runs, five RBI, and two steals across 42 at-bats. Altuve isn't the top fantasy asset he was earlier in his career but he is still worth a start in favorable matchups moving forward.

Mon Mar 3117:09Jose Altuve Returns To Second Base On Monday
Houston Astros outfielder Jose Altuve has returned to second base and will bat leadoff for the Astros for the series opener on Monday against the visiting San Francisco Giants and right-hander Jordan Hicks at Daikin Park. It will be the first time that Altuve is back at the keystone after starting the first three games last week against the New York Mets in left field. The 34-year-old veteran is expected to see most of his playing time in left in 2025, but he'll still occasionally pick up some starts at second base. With Altuve at second, Mauricio Dubon is in left field and is batting eighth. Altuve is off to an excellent start this year after his position switch, going 5-for-11 with a run scored, a walk and four strikeouts in three games against the New York Mets last week. He should remain in all starting fantasy lineups. Altuve is hitless with an RBI in just three career at-bats versus Hicks.

Wed Mar 1917:18Jose Altuve To Play "Most Of His Games" In Left Field
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve will play "most of his games" in left field in 2025, manager Joe Espada said on Wednesday. The skipper left the door open for things to change due to injuries and good performances in the minor leagues, but Espada made it clear that Altuve will open the year as the team's primary left fielder. While nothing had really been official until now, this was the expectation all along for the 34-year-old veteran after he has spent all his time playing left field in spring training. As a result, Mauricio Dubon figures to see most of the starts at second base for Houston to begin the season. While Father Time will eventually catch up to Altuve, the nine-time All-Star, former MVP, seven-time Silver Slugger winner, three-time batting champ and two-time World Series champ deserves the benefit of the doubt as a high-end fantasy second baseman that is adding value with outfield eligibility.

Thu Mar 1318:18Astros Happy With How Jose Altuve Has Looked In The Outfield
The Houston Astros have been pleased with how second baseman Jose Altuve has looked while playing the outfield in spring training. "[He's done] enough for me to feel good about playing left field," manager Joe Espada said. Even though the Astros didn't re-sign Alex Bregman in the offseason, the Astros are going forward with their plan to move the 34-year-old Venezuelan second baseman to left field on a full-time basis in 2025. The early returns defensively have been positive for Altuve, and the eventual addition of outfield eligibility in fantasy will make him an even more attractive fantasy option this year despite the fact that he isn't getting any younger. Altuve is a top-three fantasy second baseman as a former MVP, nine-time All-Star, seven-time Silver Slugger winner and three-time batting champion. He dealt with injuries in 2023 but bounced back last year to post a 20-20 season while hitting .295.

Mon Mar 312:52Jose Altuve To Spend Most Of His Time In Left Field
The plan is for Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve to spend most of his time this year in left field, according to manager Joe Espada. "Right now the plan is for him to play the majority of his games in left field, and the days that he plays second base opens the door for Yordan Alvarez maybe getting a start in left field, someone getting a DH day. So this move allows us to be creative and do stuff like that," Espada said. The skipper also said moving Altuve "back and forth is something that I am going to avoid." The 34-year-old veteran is ranked as RotoBaller's No. 4 fantasy second baseman, but he's also going to add outfield eligibility in fantasy leagues in 2025, making him even more valuable. Although the former MVP and nine-time All-Star was fortunate to hit .295 in 153 games last year, he still named 20 homers and 22 stolen bases.

Wed Feb 2612:07Jose Altuve To Make Left Field Debut On Friday
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is set to make his spring training debut in left field on Friday when the team takes on the St. Louis Cardinals in a Grapefruit League game. Altuve has been working regularly in left field in camp and is primed to make the move to the outfield on a pretty regular basis in 2025 despite the fact that he's never played there as a professional. The move will allow outfielder Yordan Alvarez to become Houston's primary designated hitter in an effort to preserve his health after he dealt with a knee injury late last year. With Altuve moving to left, playing time at the keystone will be opened up for Mauricio Dubon. Altuve will turn 35 in May, but the former MVP still managed to hit .295 with 20 home runs, 65 RBI and 22 steals in 153 games in 2204. Gaining outfield eligibility this year will make him slightly more attractive in upcoming fantasy drafts.

Tue Feb 2512:13Jose Altuve To Play Left Field In A Game Later This Week
MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reports that Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve will play in his first Grapefruit League game in left field later this week. Even though the Astros didn't re-sign third baseman Alex Bregman, it appears that the team plans on playing Altuve quite a bit in left field in 2025, which should open up more playing time at the keystone for Mauricio Dubon. The 34-year-old veteran has never played the outfield in his professional career, so it will be interesting to see how he transitions. Altuve is considered a top-five fantasy second baseman at RotoBaller, but adding outfield eligibility in 2025 will only make him more valuable in fantasy. His .789 OPS last year was his worst mark in a full season since 2013, but he still managed to hit 20 home runs and steal 22 bases. Regression is coming soon, but Altuve deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Wed Feb 1912:07Jose Altuve To Play Outfield In First Spring Game
Houston Astros manager Joe Espada said on Wednesday that second baseman Jose Altuve will play the outfield in his first Grapefruit League game. Altuve will work exclusively with the outfielders the next four to five days. Even though the Astros didn't re-sign Alex Bregman, it looks like the 34-year-old All-Star could still make the move to left field for Houston in 2025. If that were to happen, Mauricio Dubon would be the favorite to take over regularly at second base, with the recently-signed Brendan Rodgers also an option at the keystone. Fantasy-wise, regression could be coming for Altuve, although he still managed to hit 20 home runs and steal 22 bases last year. Adding outfield eligibility would certainly make him a bit more attractive in fantasy drafts. He hit .295 in 153 games in 2024, but with an xBA nearly 30 points lower. He ranks as RotoBaller's No. 4 fantasy second baseman.

Tue Feb 414:52Jose Altuve Has Been Working In Left Field
Houston Astros manager Joe Espada said that second baseman Jose Altuve has been working in left field for the last couple of weeks and is also still taking ground balls at second base. "I'm not going to commit to a number of games, but that's something that we are looking at to create some flexibility," Espada said. Even if the Astros don't re-sign third baseman Alex Bregman, which would likely push Isaac Paredes to second base, it sounds as though the team is considering using Altuve in the outfield in 2025. The 34-year-old Altuve holds Bregman in high regard, so he's fully on board with a position switch if it means Bregman returns to the organization. Although Altuve's defensive metrics have declined at the keystone, he has never played left field in his career. Altuve had just a .789 OPS in 2024 but did hit 20 homers and steal 22 bases. Adding outfield eligibility would be a slight boost to his fantasy value in 2025.

Sun Jan 2619:49Jose Altuve Willing To Move To Outfield
According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is willing to move to the outfield for the team to re-sign third baseman Alex Bregman. Rome noted that Altuve expressed he is willing to do what is asked to keep Bregman in Houston. If Bregman were to re-sign in Houston, Isaac Paredes would then shift to the keystone, moving Altuve to left field. Earlier this week, the Astros re-engaged in talks with Bregman, which is keeping the door open. In addition, earlier on Sunday, the team traded relief pitcher Ryan Pressly to the Chicago Cubs, opening up additional salary for Bregman. The Toronto Blue Jays, Cubs, and Boston Red Sox are among the teams that have expressed interest in signing Bregman. Altuve is already viewed as one of the top second basemen in fantasy baseball but would gain more value if he had outfield eligibility. If he were to shift to left field, Mauricio Dubon would likely move to a bench role.

Wed Sep 25 202412:02Jose Altuve Sitting Out On Wednesday
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is not in the team's lineup on Wednesday for the series finale against the division-rival Seattle Mariners at Minute Maid Park a day after the Astros clinched the American League West division title yet again. With Altuve getting the day off, rookie Shay Whitcomb will man the keystone and bat seventh versus Mariners right-hander George Kirby. After injuries limited him to 90 games in 2023, Altuve has had a great bounce-back year in 2024. The nine-time All-Star is slashing .293/.349/.436 with 20 home runs, 65 RBI, 22 stolen bases and 92 runs scored in 152 games played this season. Whitcomb, drafted in the fifth round in 2020 out of the University of California-San Diego, will be making his first start since Sept. 1. In his first 19 big-league games in 2024, he's gone 9-for-37 (.243) with three doubles, five RBI, five walks and eight strikeouts.

Fri Sep 13 202419:40Jose Altuve Back On Friday
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve (side) has returned to second base and is hitting leadoff on Friday in the series opener against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels and rookie left-hander Samuel Aldegheri. Altuve injured his side in the game on Wednesday against the Oakland Athletics and sat out of the series finale against the division rivals on Thursday before returning to start the weekend series in Anaheim. Fantasy managers will want to get the 34-year-old All-Star back into all starting lineups, especially against a young hurler without much experience. Altuve has been excellent for the Astros and fantasy managers all year and enters Friday's game with a .302/.357/.450 slash line, .806 OPS, 19 homers, 62 RBI, 20 steals and 86 runs scored in 576 at-bats as a contributor across all categories. He's been even better in September with a .389 average, a homer, four doubles and five RBI in nine games.

Thu Sep 12 202412:12Jose Altuve Not Playing Against A's
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve (side) is not in the team's starting lineup on Thursday at Minute Maid Park for the series finale against the division-rival Oakland Athletics. Altuve's absence shouldn't come as a surprise after he was forced from Wednesday night's win over Oakland due to right-side tightness. Manager Joe Espada said after the game that he's not really concerned about Altuve's injury, with the team calling him day-to-day for now. Fantasy managers need to get the 34-year-old All-Star out of their lineups on Thursday and check back on Friday to see if he's available for the series opener in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels. Mauricio Dubon is at the keystone and batting ninth on Thursday against A's right-hander Mitch Spence. If Altuve misses additional time, Dubon will likely see most of the starts at second in his place for Houston.

Thu Sep 12 202400:22Jose Altuve Dealing With Side Injury
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve (side) left Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the division-rival Oakland Athletics at Minute Maid Park early after he appeared to be in pain after taking a swing in the fifth inning. Altuve stayed in the game, bunted foul with two strikes to end his at-bat and then immediately went into the team's clubhouse. He was replaced at second by Mauricio Dubon. The All-Star second baseman is getting treatment on his right side, and manager Joe Espada said he is "not really concerned" about the severity and Altuve is day-to-day. The 34-year-old went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before leaving. It's good news, but fantasy managers should expect Altuve to miss at least a game or two. The Astros finish their series against the A's on Thursday before a series opener on Friday at the Los Angeles Angels. Houston can ill-afford to lose Altuve for any stretch of time as October nears.

Sat Sep 7 202422:45Jose Altuve Homers Saturday In 11-5 Win Over Arizona
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve homered Saturday in an 11-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The homer was one of three hits for the veteran. During the season Altuve has hit an even .300 with 19 home runs, 59 RBI, 20 stolen bases, and 85 runs scored. He continues to be the catalyst in an excellent Houston lineup. Altuve is hitting .346 in his last seven games atop the lineup. He will look to continue his hot hitting in the series finale tomorrow against Arizona.

Mon Aug 26 202417:22Jose Altuve Out Against Phillies
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is getting a day off on Monday for the series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in a rematch of last year's World Series. With Altuve out, rookie Shay Whitcomb will make the start at the keystone and bat ninth for Houston against Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler. Altuve was hitless in his five at-bats with three strikeouts in Sunday's series finale against the Baltimore Orioles, prompting the team to give him just his sixth game off of the season. Whitcomb will be a deep DFS sleeper to ignore in a tough matchup while hitting in the nine-hole. The 25-year-old has handled himself well in his first 21 big-league at-bats, though, going 6-for-21 (.286) with two RBI and a run scored while getting on base at a .423 clip. Altuve should return to the keystone for Game 2 of the series on Tuesday.

Sat Aug 24 202408:58Jose Altuve Homers, Gets On Base Three Times
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve homered and drove in two runs as part of a 2-for-4 day at the plate in Friday's 7-5 loss to the Orioles. The veteran was also hit by a pitch in the contest. It was the sixth time this month the 9x All-Star has had multiple hits in a game, although he has also had six games in which he went hitless, leading to just a .256 batting average in August. Nevertheless, the 34-year-old is having a solid year overall, recording a .299-17-55-73-18 line with a .345 wOBA and 127 wRC+, remaining one of the top options at the keystone for fantasy.

Wed Aug 21 202412:07Jose Altuve Getting A Breather On Wednesday
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is getting a day off in Wednesday's series finale at Minute Maid Park against the Boston Red Sox. Mauricio Dubon will start at the keystone and will hit seventh for the Astros against Red Sox right-hander Cooper Criswell. Third baseman Alex Bregman (elbow) is returning from a five-game absence and will serve as the designated hitter and bat in Altuve's customary leadoff spot. Altuve will get his first day of rest since July 7. Since July 9, he's hit .275 (39-for-142) with three home runs, five doubles, 12 RBI, five steals and 18 runs scored in 35 games played. The veteran second baseman is currently riding a modest five-game hitting streak, going 7-for-21 (.333) with a homer, double, three RBI and three stolen bases. Altuve is having a fine bounce-back season in 2024 and is a must-start in all fantasy lineups when he's on the field.

Sat Aug 10 202406:50Jose Altuve Homers, Scores Twice On Friday
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve had a big night in his team's 8-4 win over the Boston Red Sox on Friday. Altuve went 1-for-4 with a walk, a homer, two runs, and two RBI to help propel the Astros to the win. The veteran's two-run shot in the seventh inning was clutch as it tied the game at 3-3. Altuve is putting together a fine season, hitting .302 with 15 homers, 64 runs, 50 RBI, and 15 steals over 460 at-bats. He has been in a bit of a cold streak of late, hitting just .231 over his past seven games, so hopefully Friday's performance will get his bat going again.

Thu Jul 25 202400:54Jose Altuve Provides Three-Hit Attack Wednesday
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve collected three hits in Wednesday afternoon's win over the division-rival Oakland Athletics, driving in two runs during the victory. After ripping an RBI single to left field, plating Jon Singleton to give the Astros a 2-1 lead in the second inning, Altuve lined an RBI double to left field to score Singleton once more and give Houston a 5-1 lead in the seventh inning. Wednesday was just another day at the office for the 34-year-old All-Star infielder, who's now slashing a strong .307/.353/.456 with 14 home runs, 46 RBI, 59 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases covering 410 at-bats this year.
