Fri Apr 1808:58Lawrence Butler Goes Deep, Extends Hitting Streak To Four Games
Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler went 2-for-5 with a home run to extend his hitting streak to four games on Thursday afternoon during their victory over the Chicago White Sox. In the opening frame, Butler would hit a leadoff double and would eventually score on a Jacob Wilson double. Later in the contest, Butler would hit a solo shot in the fifth inning off Chicago starter Chris Martin. The 24-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign, posting a .296/.390/.451 line with two long balls and six stolen bases. He has generated a strong .355 xwOBA, 92.1 mph average exit velocity, with a 74.1 mph bat speed, which are all above the average marks. Butler remains a must-start option in all formats and is a strong play in DFS on Friday, facing Milwaukee right-hander Chad Patrick.

Thu Apr 1702:25Lawrence Butler Swipes Two Bags On Wednesday
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler made an impact on the basepaths Wednesday, stealing two bases in a 3-1 win over the Chicago White Sox. Butler ended up going 1-for-5 in this one, but still contributed with his speed. It's been a mediocre start to the season for the popular breakout pick, who now has a .288 AVG and .784 OPS with a homer and four steals. Fantasy managers certainly expected more in terms of a power/speed combo, but it is still early and Butler is a fairly streaky hitter. He is at least contributing to AVG and steals and could go off at any time, so holding tight is likely the best option for his fantasy owners.

Mon Apr 711:24Lawrence Butler Hits First Home Run Of 2025 On Sunday
Athleticsoutfielder Lawrence Butler went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, two RBI, and a run scored in Sunday's 12-5 loss to the Rockies. The 6-foot-3 left-handed slugger, who signed a big off-season contract extension, got off to a slow start to begin the year, going 4-for-24 (.167) over the first seven games, but now has three consecutive multi-hit efforts during which time he is 7-for-14 (.500). The 24-year-old is now hitting .289 on the young season with four extra base hits, two RBI, six runs scored, one stolen base, and a fantastic 6:5 BB:K. It amounts to a .370 wOBA and a 142 wRC+ for the former sixth-round draft pick, who should continue to be a strong fantasy producer hitting atop the A's lineup.

Fri Mar 700:26Athletics, Lawrence Butler Agree To A Seven-Year, $65.5 Million Extension
The Athletics and their dynamic young outfielder Lawrence Butler have agreed to a seven-year, $65.5 million contract extension. In 2024, the former sixth-round draft pick slashed .262/.317/.490 with 22 home runs and 18 stolen bases in just 125 games (451 PA). The 24-year-old is a power-speed threat, batting atop the A's lineup in front of home run hitters Brent Rooker and Shea Langeliers, so fantasy managers should expect solid production across the board from the youngster. ATC projections, which are conservative by nature, see the left-handed hitter with a .250-24-69-77-19 line in 2025, and he's got an NFBC ADP of 68, which is right around where RotoBaller has him ranked at 64 overall.

Thu Feb 2012:42A's Talking Extension With Lawrence Butler
Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler is engaged in talks with the team about a long-term contract extension after his breakout performance in 2024, according to people briefed on the discussions who weren't authorized to speak publicly. The 24-year-old power and speed threat hit .262/.317/.490 with an .807 OPS, 22 home runs, 57 RBI, 18 stolen bases and 63 runs scored in 125 games in his first full season in the big leagues. He hit .219 with 20 home runs in 84 games in the second half after being called up from the minors in June. The Athletic's Evan Drellich thinks the five-year, $25 million extension that outfielder Myles Straw got from his former team, the Guardians, represents a low-end comparison for Butler's potential deal. Butler's ceiling for an extension could be the eight-year, $100 million deal Atlanta gave Ronald Acuna Jr. A seven-year, $55 million deal could be a nice starting point.

Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler (illness) is back in right field and is batting leadoff for the A's on Wednesday against the division-rival Houston Astros and right-hander Hunter Brown at Minute Maid Park. Butler was under the weather on Monday but is feeling better on Tuesday and will return atop Oakland's batting order. The 24-year-old former sixth-round selection in 2018 is having a breakout campaign in just his second year in the majors and in his first full season in the big leagues. He comes into Wednesday's game slashing .270/.324/.523 with an .847 OPS, 21 home runs, 54 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 110 games played. Butler's second half has been more impressive, as he's hit .328/.368/.638 with a 1.006 OPS, 12 homers, 29 RBI and eight stolen bases in 46 games. Get him back into your lineups on Wednesday now that he's feeling better.

Tue Sep 10 202418:32Lawrence Butler Out On Tuesday
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler (illness) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros. It sounds like Butler caught an illness that is going around the clubhouse. A's manager Mark Kotsay said he's hopeful that Butler can return on Wednesday. In the meantime, Seth Brown will cover right field and bat fifth versus right-hander Spencer Arrighetti. Brown could be a low-risk DFS option with a .248 batting average and 14 home runs on the season. The left-handed slugger could have some success against Arrighetti on Tuesday.

Sun Sep 1 202409:14Lawrence Butler Homers Again In Two-Hit Game
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Rangers, with both hits for the left-handed hitter coming against Cody Bradford, the left-handed starter for the Rangers. Butler has been on a tear lately, now with a 10-game hit streak and 10 consecutive games in which he's scored at least one run. Over this stretch, the 24-year-old is 16-for-41 (.390) with three doubles, seven home runs, 13 RBI, 13 runs scored, two stolen bases, and a 2:2 BB:K. For the season, the former sixth-round draft pick owns a .257-20-53-52-12 line with a .350 wOBA and a 133 wRC+ in 102 games. He'll look to finish the season strong and has certainly increased his fantasy draft stock for next season.

Fri Aug 30 202400:14Lawrence Butler Smashes Three Homers
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler went off on Thursday, going 3-for-4 with three home runs and four RBI. Butler hit his 17th homer in the second inning, his 18th in the fourth, and his 19th in the ninth, which also happened to be a game-tying homer. The 24-year-old now has five homers in his past three games, a stretch that has his fantasy owners breathing a sigh of relief after a slump in early August. Although there may be some ups and downs, Butler should be a solid fantasy asset down the stretch and should be owned in all formats.

Thu Aug 29 202400:22Lawrence Butler Homers, Swipes Bag In Win
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler homered and swiped a bag in Wednesday night's win over the hosting Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. Before legging out an RBI groundout in the seventh inning, Butler led off the game with a home run to right field to give the Athletics a 1-0 lead over the Reds on Wednesday. The 24-year-old right fielder has become a lineup fixture in Oakland as a leadoff man during his first full year in the major leagues this season, batting .307 (47-for-153) with 12 home runs, 35 RBI, and 31 runs scored in his last 41 games.

Wed Aug 28 202400:40Lawrence Butler Hits 15th Homer Of Season Tuesday
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler had a nice game at the plate in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Reds. Butler went 2-for-5 with a single and a two-run home run. The 24-year-old capped off a four-run seventh inning, crushing a Justin Wilson slider into the left-field seats. Butler has shown some encouraging signs throughout the season but has been erratic overall. His July was stellar but his production the rest of the season has been lackluster, culminating in a .246/.304/.462 slash line with 15 HR, 45 runs scored, 45 RBI, and 11 stolen bases in 332 plate appearances.

Mon Aug 5 202418:42Lawrence Butler Getting A Breather
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Butler will receive a much-needed day off after playing in every game since the All-Star break. The left-handed slugger was hitting everything in sight towards the end of July. Since then, Butler has cooled off a bit but still has a .778 OPS with 12 home runs and 35 RBI this season. Daz Cameron will serve as the leadoff hitter and play right field versus left-handed Ky Bush on Monday.

Fri Jul 26 202400:48Lawrence Butler Stays Scorching Hot
Oakland Athletics outfield Lawrence Butler continued his insane July on Thursday, going 2-for-5 with a homer and a double. Butler drove in a pair and scored twice to round out his stat line. He now has a ridiculous July line with a .413 AVG, 19 runs, nine homers, 26 RBI, and two steals. Given that production, he should be rostered in all leagues at this point, and he's still out their in some shallow ones. While he could plummet back to earth at any time, the upside he is showing now makes him a must-roster player.

Wed Jul 24 202407:14Lawrence Butler Falls Single Short Of The Cycle On Tuesday
Oakland A's outfielder Lawrence Butler had a big game in his team's 8-2 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday. Butler went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a homer, a walk, two runs, and two RBI to help power his team to the win. The 24-year-old outfielder is putting together a solid season, hitting .253 with 10 doubles, two triples, 10 homers, 26 runs, 32 RBI, and six steals across 194 at-bats. Butler has been red-hot of late, batting .536 with four homers over his past seven contests. He remains a must-start in fantasy until his bat cools off.

Mon Jul 15 202400:33Lawrence Butler Hits Three Homers, Drives In Six
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler had a monster day at the dish on Sunday, launching three two-run homers in an 18-3 demolition of the Philadelphia Phillies. Butler ended the day 3-for-6 and added six RBI and three runs to his trio of homers. The lefty has shown signs of coming on in July, going 13-for-41 (.317) with seven homers, 17 RBI, and two steals in 12 games. He has also moved up to the leadoff spot in the A's lineup for the last two games and will likely stay there as long as he keeps hitting. He has a nice blend of power and speed that could make for a useful fantasy player if he can cut down on the strikeouts. Butler is a solid upside add in deeper leagues and should be watched in all categories leagues.

Sat Jul 13 202414:24Lawrence Butler Leading Off On Saturday
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler will be leading off on Saturday afternoon and will play right field. Butler has been batting in the bottom half of the lineup over the past few weeks, but his recent play has earned him the top spot in the order. In his past five games, the 24-year-old has posted a stellar .353/.389/.765 line with two home runs and seven RBI. Under the hood, the former sixth-round pick holds a strong 48.2% hard-hit rate and 10.9% barrel rate, which suggests he could have a big second half. He could be a popular option in DFS this afternoon as he will face Philadelphia right-hander Tyler Phillips, who will make his first major league start.

Tue Jun 18 202409:02Lawrence Butler To Be Recalled
The Oakland Athletics are set to recall first base/outfield prospect Lawrence Butler from Triple-A Las Vegas. Butler performed well enough in the Cactus League to break camp with the club, but struggled mightily and was demoted on May 14. In his time with Las Vegas, Butler hit .255 with four homers and nine RBI in 110 at-bats. Butler takes the spot of infielder J.D. Davis, who was designated for assignment. Butler hits the ball hard and offers pop and speed, but it hasn't translated in his two stints as a big leaguer thus far. The 23-year-old still can remain on the waiver wire for now, but he is worth watching as he should get a good opportunity to prove himself on a developing Athletics roster.

Wed Mar 13 202407:52Lawrence Butler Continues To Make Case For Opening Day Roster
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Tuesday's Cactus League victory against the Seattle Mariners. Butler, 23, has been having a strong spring and is now hitting .433 with four RBI and a stolen base over his first 30 at-bats. The young outfielder had a strong minor league campaign in 2023 with a combined 15 homers, 70 RBI and 21 stolen bases to accompany a healthy .284 batting average across Double-A and Triple-A. His success on the farm earned him a promotion to the big leagues late last season, but he struggled with four homers, 10 RBI and a .211 batting average in 42 games. Butler had minimal playing time in Triple-A, so the growing pains were as expected in his first taste in the show. Despite that, Butler enters the season vying for an outfield spot on a young and non-competitive team that will be sure to showcase and give their young talent ample opportunities. The left-handed bat might struggle to drive in runs with a weak lineup, but his ability to hit for power and swipe bags makes him worth a gamble later in drafts.

Thu Feb 29 202415:34Lawrence Butler Focusing On Plate Discipline
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler made it a point of emphasis in the offseason to work on his plate discipline, as the 23-year-old walked just four times in his first 129 major-league plate appearances in 2023. He hit .284/.350/.475 with 15 home runs and 21 stolen bases in 89 games with Double-A Midland and Triple-A Las Vegas last year and received his first big-league promotion on Aug. 11. Butler hit .211 with four homers while playing mostly center field in 42 games in the majors to close out the year. "I love the way he's come into camp," manager Mark Kotsay added. "You can tell he's got a mindset that he belongs here." The former sixth-round pick looked mostly overmatched at the plate with the A's last year, but his speed could be enticing as a depth outfielder in AL-only fantasy leagues in 2024.

Sat Aug 19 202318:35Lawrence Butler Sits Out Versus Southpaw
Oakland Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The 23-year-old has a .760 OPS since being called up to the big league roster roughly a week ago. Despite that, the A's don't seem too interested in playing Butler against left-handed starting pitchers. Butler has been out of the lineup both times the A's have faced a lefty since he was called up. The A's are playing for next season, so it's a bit surprising that they won't at least see how Butler fares against left-handed pitching. Regardless, he'll sit out, while Esteury Ruiz covers center field and bats leadoff versus Cole Irvin on Saturday.
