Thu Apr 2414:07Patrick Bailey Getting Breather In Series Finale
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey will start Thursday's series finale against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers at Oracle Park on the bench while Sam Huff does the catching for right-hander Landen Roupp and hits eighth against Brewers right-hander Tobias Myers, who is coming off the injured list to make his 2025 season debut. Bailey, 25, has gotten off to a rough start to the season at the plate, batting just .167 (11-for-66) with no home runs, eight RBI, seven runs scored, five walks and 26 strikeouts in 72 plate appearances over 22 games. He has just two multi-hit games and five extra-base hits as San Fran's primary catcher. Huff has been slightly better with five hits in 22 at-bats, including a home run, but fantasy managers in DFS should be able to find better low-cost options at catcher for Thursday's slate.

Sat Apr 1212:18Patrick Bailey Out Against Yankees
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey is taking the day off on Saturday at Yankee Stadium against the New York Yankees. Sam Huff will make the start behind the dish to catch right-hander Jordan Hicks and will hit eighth in the batting order versus Yankees right-hander Will Warren. Bailey went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Friday's series opener in the Bronx, but he's hitting just .206 (7-for-34) early in the season with no home runs, four doubles, a triple, four RBI, five runs scored, three walks and 10 strikeouts in 37 trips to the plate over his 13 games played. Bailey should be back in action for the series finale on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. Huff should be considered a long shot to return any DFS value for Saturday's slate. The 27-year-old catcher has gotten off to a 2-for-13 start at the plate for the Giants with no home runs and five strikeouts.

Sat Apr 518:26Patrick Bailey Takes A Seat On Saturday
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey (rest) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Bailey has earned himself a day off after going 3-for-5 with two doubles in the extra inning win on Friday. However, that three-hit performance was the first time that Bailey had recorded a hit since Opening Day. Sam Huff will do the catching and bat eighth against right-hander Bryce Miller on Saturday.

Mon Sep 23 202418:49Patrick Bailey Absent On Monday
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey is out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This appears to be a routine rest day for Bailey after he started in three of the last four games. Curt Casali will do the catching and bat ninth versus left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez on Monday. The veteran catcher is hitting under .200 on the season and can be avoided for fantasy purposes. The assumption is that Bailey will be back in the lineup following Monday's contest.

Wed Aug 28 202419:12Patrick Bailey To Return On Thursday
San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said he expects catcher Patrick Bailey (oblique) to come off the 10-day injured list when he's first eligible on Thursday. An oblique strain has kept Bailey out of action since Aug. 18, but he should return as San Fran's primary backstop on Thursday. Veteran Curt Casali will then go back to being the Giants' backup at the position, although he could see more playing time if Bailey continues to struggle like he was before his injury. Before his oblique injury, the 25-year-old switch-hitter had gone just 3-for-57 (.053) with a double, two RBI and 14 strikeouts in his previous 16 games played. The poor stretch knocked his season slash line down to .233/.299/.344 with a weak .642 OPS to go along with seven home runs, 38 RBI and 37 runs scored on the year. It's been an uninspiring season for Bailey.

Fri Aug 23 202420:12Patrick Bailey Resuming Baseball Activities
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey (oblique) will resume baseball activities this weekend, according to the team. Barring a setback, Bailey will likely be back from the 10-day injured list before the end of August, which is why free-agent catcher Elias Diaz turned down the Giants as a possible destination. The Giants aren't guaranteeing a roster spot with Bailey expected to return sooner than later. Bailey is eligible to return from the IL on Aug. 29. The 25-year-old switch-hitting backstop was hitting a dreadful .057 (3-for-53) with a double, two RBI and 13 strikeouts in 15 games in the month of July before landing on the shelf. With better health, hopefully Bailey will be able to pick things up offensively in the final month of the season. Veteran Curt Casali is currently serving as the Giants' starter, with Andrew Knapp backing him up.

Tue Aug 20 202421:18Giants Place Patrick Bailey On 10-Day Injured List
The San Francisco Giants placed catcher Patrick Bailey (oblique) on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain and recalled backstop Jakson Reetz from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Bailey was expected to start Monday night's series opener against the visiting Chicago White Sox, but he ended up being a late scratch. The Giants sent him to undergo an MRI exam on Tuesday, which revealed the injury. Veteran Curt Casali made his second straight start behind the dish in place of Bailey as a DFS budget option on Tuesday against the last-place White Sox, with Reetz getting called up to act as San Fran's backup catcher. Bailey has gone just 3-for-53 (.057) in the month of August, and Casali should operate as the primary backstop as long as he's sidelined.

Tue Aug 20 202418:46Patrick Bailey Remains Out
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey (side) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. This news isn't shocking considering Bailey was scratched ahead of Monday's contest due to right side tightness. The organization is considering it a minor injury, so for now fantasy managers can list Bailey as day-to-day. In his absence, Curt Casali will do the catching and bat ninth versus right-hander Davis Martin. The 35-year-old collected two hits on Monday, but is hitting .200 with five RBI on the season. Fantasy managers should look elsewhere for help while Bailey is out.

Tue Aug 20 202416:51Patrick Bailey Says His Injury Is Minor
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey (side) was a late scratch from Monday's series opener at Oracle Park against the Chicago White Sox with right-side tightness, but he described the soreness as "very, very minor," and said it was more of a precautionary scratch. However, Bailey is likely to sit out on Tuesday as well. Veteran Curt Casali replaced Bailey on Monday, although the Giants could call up Jakson Reetz from Triple-A Sacramento if they want more catching depth on Tuesday. Bailey has been mired in a terrible slump in recent weeks, going just 5-for-66 (.076) in 18 games since July 28, so perhaps it will be good for him to take at least a couple days off. He said he felt his side tighten up after coming out to take early swings on Monday. The 25-year-old switch-hitting backstop is hitting .233 (76-for-326) overall this year with seven homers and 38 RBI.

Mon Aug 19 202420:44Patrick Bailey Scratched With Side Tightness
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey (side) has been scratched from Monday's series-opening contest against the Chicago White Sox at Oracle Park due to tightness in his right side. Curt Casali will now do the catching for left-hander Kyle Harrison while batting ninth against White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon. We'll have more updates on Bailey once they come in, but for now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day. Bailey has provided minimal contributions for fantasy managers in 2024 with only seven home runs and 38 RBI in 366 plate appearances, and he's also gone just 3-for-53 (.057) with no homers, a double, two RBI and 13 strikeouts in 15 games so far in August. Casali would become the starter in San Fran if Bailey is forced to the injured list. The 35-year-old has gone 12-for-67 (.179) and is still searching for his first home run of 2024.

Thu Jul 11 202407:16Patrick Bailey Homers, Scores Three Runs In Loss
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey had a big night in his team's 10-6 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. Bailey went 2-for-2 with a homer, three walks, three runs, and an RBI in the loss. The 25-year-old catcher is putting together a solid season for the Giants, hitting .280 with seven homers, 31 runs, 30 RBI, and two steals over 214 at-bats. While his numbers don't jump off the page, Bailey is well on his way to establishing himself as an everyday fantasy catcher. He will look to keep it going as the Giants approach the All-Star break.

Thu Jun 27 202413:22Patrick Bailey Getting A Breather Against Cubs
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey will have the day off in a matinee affair in Thursday's series finale against the visiting Chicago Cubs. Curt Casali will take his place behind the dish to catch right-hander Jordan Hicks while batting ninth against Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga. Bailey has proven to be one of the more productive hitting catchers in the big leagues this year, as he's currently batting .285 (51-for-179) with six home runs, 24 RBI and 23 runs scored in 55 games in just his second season in the major leagues. The 25-year-old switch-hitter has gone 18-for-69 (.261) with two home runs, a double and five RBI in 20 games in the month of June. DFS managers should be able to find better options at catcher than Casali in the nine-hole in a tough matchup against Imanaga.

Wed May 29 202415:33Patrick Bailey Sitting Versus A Lefty
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies in the series finale. The Giants are also holding left-handed-hitting outfielder Mike Yastrzemski and infielder Brett Wisely out in this one. Curt Casali is doing the catching and is batting ninth, Tyler Fitzgerald is in center field and is hitting eighth, and Marco Luciano is at the 6 and is batting second against Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sanchez. Bailey has missed some time this year due to a concussion but is hitting a strong .299 (32-for-107) for the Giants and fantasy managers, adding four home runs, 19 RBI and 15 runs scored along the way. Luciano, one of the Giants' top prospects, will be the most attractive DFS piece on Wednesday, especially after going 9-for-23 (.391) since his call-up.

Sat May 25 202400:46Patrick Bailey's Grand Slam Sinks Mets Friday
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey sunk the New York Mets in Friday's win on the road, blasting a go-ahead grand slam to give his team a 7-6 lead in the eighth inning. Bailey got a hold of a fastball from Mets right-hander Reed Garrett on a 2-0 count with the bases loaded in a high-leverage spot, cranking his fourth home run of the year. The 24-year-old switch-hitting backstop is now hitting .301 (28-for-93) with four long balls, six doubles, 16 RBI, and two stolen bases in 30 games as San Fran's top catcher following the trade of Joey Bart earlier this year. With a unique skill set, Bailey is certainly worth a look as an option for fantasy managers in deep two-catcher leagues with the way he's performing for the Giants right now.

Tue May 21 202420:31Patrick Bailey Reinstated From Injured List
The San Francisco Giants reinstated catcher Patrick Bailey (head) from the seven-day concussion injured list on Tuesday and optioned catcher/outfielder Blake Sabol to Double-A Richmond in a corresponding move. The Giants also added outfielder Ryan McKenna to the active roster. Although Bailey was brought back from the IL on Tuesday, it was Curt Casali who got the start behind the plate for the Giants in Pittsburgh against the Pirates with a left-hander on the mound. Now that he's back, Bailey should return to primary catching duties in San Francisco after opening the year with a strong .280/.340/.451 slash line in 95 plate appearances. The former 13th overall pick in 2020 out of North Carolina State has added three home runs, 11 RBI and 10 runs scored in his 82 at-bats in 2024. Bailey should be back in the starting lineup on Wednesday.

Tue May 14 202422:17Patrick Bailey Goes Back On Injured List
The San Francisco Giants placed catcher Patrick Bailey (head) on the seven-day concussion injured list (retroactive to May 12) on Monday and recalled infielder Marco Luciano from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Bailey suffered a concussion earlier this month but had already returned from his IL stint, but the 24-year-old backstop recently missed two games for the Giants, with the illness apparently related to his head injury. It's nothing to mess around with, so the Giants will play it safe and sideline Bailey again for another week. Blake Sabol will take over the primary catching duties for the beat-up Giants moving forward. Sabol is 8-for-21 in his first eight games for the Giants this year and is now worth a look in two-catcher leagues, especially since Bailey could be out for an extended amount of time.

Tue May 14 202418:35Patrick Bailey Remains Out On Tuesday
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey (illness) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This isn't shocking considering Bailey recently headed for further evaluation to determine the severity of his illness. It could be related to a concussion that Bailey suffered earlier in the month. Fantasy managers shouldn't be shocked if Bailey lands on the injured list soon. In the meantime, Blake Sabol will cover behind the plate and bat seventh versus right-hander Gavin Stone.

Mon May 13 202419:54Patrick Bailey Meeting With Doctor, Out On Monday
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey (illness) will meet with a team doctor later on Monday, and the Giants are trying to figure out if he's just dealing with a cold or if his illness is related to his recent concussion. Manager Bob Melvin said the team is going to be very careful with Bailey, who is out of the starting lineup again on Monday against the visiting division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. For now, fantasy managers should consider the 24-year-old backstop as day-to-day and check back on Tuesday to see if he's back in the lineup. Blake Sabol is doing the catching again on Monday and will hit seventh against Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Bailey has been one of the Giants' better hitters this year, as he's currently slashing .280/.340/.451 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 82 at-bats. When he's healthy, he'll continue to see more of the starts at catcher over Sabol.

Mon May 13 202412:15Patrick Bailey Dealing With Illness
San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey (illness) was scratched from Sunday's series finale against the Cincinnati Reds due to a viral illness, according to the team. Bailey recently came off the seven-day concussion injured list, but his absence from Sunday's game wasn't in any way a setback with his head. Fantasy managers will want to check back to see if the 24-year-old backstop is feeling good enough to play in the series opener on Monday against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. If Bailey misses any more time this week, Blake Sabol will benefit from more playing time behind the dish for the Gigantes. So far in 2024, Bailey is hitting a strong .280/.340/.451 with three home runs, 11 RBI, a stolen base and 10 runs scored in 26 games played.

Sat May 4 202417:30Patrick Bailey Placed On 7-Day Concussion Injured List
The San Francisco Giants announced Saturday that they have placed catcher Patrick Bailey on the 7-day concussion injured list and have recalled catcher Blake Sabol from Triple-A Sacramento. Bailey was removed from Friday night's game after a foul tip on a 95 mph fastball hit off his mask in the bottom of the first inning. Tom Murphy will be starting in Bailey's place on Saturday night against the Philadelphia Phillies. Murphy is hitting for a .121 average and a .458 OPS. Sabol put up much better numbers in 2023, hitting for a .695 OPS in 344 plate appearances. While both catchers should be expected to split time while Bailey's out, Sabol should be the higher priority for the next week with the expectation that he will be more productive than Murphy. Both should make for good streaming options next week as the Giants open up a series at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday.
