Tue Apr 22 | 17:42 | Tyler Soderstrom To See Time In Left Field And As Designated Hitter |
Athletics general manager David Forst said that with first base prospect Nick Kurtz joining the big-league squad this week, first baseman Tyler Soderstrom will get some time in left field and as the designated hitter. Brent Rooker will also be part of the left field/DH mix going forward as the A's make room for Kurtz, who was the fourth overall pick in 2024 out of Wake Forest. Soderstrom has never played the outfield in his professional career, so when he's not at first base, he'll probably serve as the DH most days and will move to left field when Rooker needs a day off his feet. Fantasy managers definitely shouldn't be banking on the 23-year-old gaining outfield eligibility in 2025 just yet. Kurtz is regarded as the better defensive option than Soderstrom at first base. Soderstrom is currently tied with Cal Raleigh for the MLB lead in homers with nine and has also driven in 19 runs while hitting .298 early on. |

Thu Apr 17 | 21:24 | Tyler Soderstrom Hits League-Leading Ninth Homer |
Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom has been on another level early in the season. Soderstrom showed that he had pop in the minors, but he has been putting up video game numbers in April. On Thursday, Soderstrom blasted his league-leading ninth home run of the season during the blowout victory over the Chicago White Sox. The 23-year-old has nine homers and 18 RBI and we're not even to Easter yet. The expectation is that he'll slow down at some point, but until then Soderstrom needs to be rostered and started in all fantasy formats. |

Wed Apr 16 | 00:18 | Tyler Soderstrom Hits Two Three-Run Homers Tuesday |
Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom continued his hot start at the plate in Tuesday's 12-3 win over the White Sox. Soderstrom went 3-for-5 with a single and a pair of three-run home runs. The 23-year-old lined a first-inning Sean Burke hanging curve just over the right-field wall, and he later launched a sixth-inning Penn Murfee offering deep into the right-field seats. The former fantasy prospect has started to make good on the promise he offered, slashing .328/.403/.734 with a league-leading eight HR to go with 17 RBI in 72 plate appearances. He is currently rostered in 85 percent of leagues, so he may still be available for fantasy managers looking for higher-end power. |

Tue Apr 15 | 16:00 | Tyler Soderstrom Could See Time At Third Base |
Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom could see time at third base to open a spot in the starting nine for prospect Nick Kurtz. According to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com, the Athletics have to find a spot in the lineup for Kurtz as both first base and designated hitter are typically occupied by Soderstrom and Brent Rooker, respectively. Gallegos noted that there is a scenario where the Athletics attempt to move Soderstrom to the hot corner to open first base for Kurtz. Rooker could also move to the outfield. Soderstrom has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign, posting a .305/.388/.644 slash line with six home runs. However, first base prospect Nick Kurtz has been just as impressive with Triple-A Las Vegas, posting a .367/.409/.817 line with seven long balls. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the Athletics' starting nine as both Soderstrom and Rooker could begin to shift to another position to open a spot for Kurtz. |

Wed Apr 9 | 14:25 | Tyler Soderstrom Starting On Wednesday |
Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (calf) is in the starting nine on Wednesday afternoon when they conclude their series against the San Diego Padres. Soderstrom was removed from Tuesday's contest due to a calf contusion. However, the injury was not serious, and the former first-round pick is already returning to action. He will cover first base and bat in the three-hole. Soderstrom has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign as he has posted a .378/.440/.822 slash line with six long balls across 12 contests. He has generated a stellar .415 xwOBA with a .626 xSLG. He is a solid play in DFS facing San Diego right-hander Randy Vasquez. |

Wed Apr 9 | 00:54 | Tyler Soderstrom Exits Early Tuesday With Right-Calf Tightness |
Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (calf) exited Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Padres early with right-calf tightness, per MLB.com's Martin Gallegos. The 23-year-old had a baserunner collide with his right leg while reaching for a high throw at first base earlier in the game, but he was able to stay in the game before being pinch-hit for by Max Schuemann in the eighth inning. Soderstrom went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk before exiting. He should be considered day-to-day until any further news comes out. Hopefully, the move was just precautionary, as Soderstrom has gotten off to a great start at the plate, slashing .378/.440/.822 with six home runs and 10 RBI in 50 plate appearances. |

Tue Apr 8 | 01:02 | Tyler Soderstrom Hits Two More Homers Monday |
Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom continued to flex his muscles early in the season in Monday's 5-4 loss to the Padres. Soderstrom went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs and a walk. The 23-year-old lined a third-inning Michael King offering into the right-field bullpen and launched a seventh-inning Jeremiah Estrada offering over the right-field bullpen. The former fantasy prospect is starting to show why he was highly regarded, slashing .381/.435/.857 with six HR and 10 RBI in 46 plate appearances. Soderstrom would have even greater fantasy appeal if he were able to gain catcher eligibility, although he has yet to make a start behind the plate. Regardless, he is providing plenty of fantasy value as a first baseman, making him worth a look in all leagues at this time. |

Sun Mar 30 | 18:51 | Tyler Soderstrom Hits Another Homer |
Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom continued to show off his power during Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Soderstrom opened up the scoring with a solo home run off right-hander Bryan Woo in the fourth inning. Sadly, the A's offense couldn't do anything else as they ended up dropping this game 2-1 to Seattle. Soderstrom finished 2-for-3 with a single and a walk as well. The 23-year-old is hitting .467 with three homers and four RBI through the first four games of the season. Soderstrom could be worth a look in most fantasy formats while he's hot at the plate. |

Fri Mar 28 | 06:47 | Tyler Soderstrom Smashes Two Home Runs On Thursday |
Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom got his 2025 regular season off to a great start by going 2-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs on Thursday night. Unfortunately for the A's, the rest of the lineup combined to go a brutal 1-for-26 in their 4-2 loss in Seattle. Soderstrom went yard in the fifth off Logan Gilbert to give his team the 1-0 lead and hit another home run off Trent Thornton in the eighth to put them up 2-1. The bullpen couldn't hold the lead, though, so the team fell to 0-1. Soderstrom is starting his first full season in the MLB after hitting .233 with nine home runs and a .322 wOBA in 61 games last season. He's off to a fast start and will look to continue his success through the weekend in Seattle. He got some preseason hype as a potential breakout this season, and he definitely lived up to that hype in game No. 1. |

Thu Feb 27 | 22:34 | Tyler Soderstrom Could See Opportunities Behind The Plate |
Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom could still be in the mix to serve as the team's backup catcher. Soderstrom was drafted as a catcher with the 26th pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. However, the 23-year-old has begun to transition to first base. Last summer, Soderstrom made just one start behind the dish in the majors last season compared to the 59 he made at first base. However, he started 21 games behind the plate in the minor leagues compared to eight at first base. While Shea Langeliers is expected to be the team's primary backstop, Soderstrom could eventually earn the No. 2 role while still operating as their top first baseman. His defensive flexibility would allow the Athletics to have another player on their roster as he would be available to play two positions. Despite playing in only 60 MLB games last season, Soderstrom flashed high power upside as he went deep nine times and held a .429 SLG. He is worth a look as a late-round flier in deeper formats as he could gain catcher eligibility, which would boost his fantasy value. |

Sat Sep 14 2024 | 16:08 | Tyler Soderstrom Activated From 10-Day Injured List |
Oakland Athletics first baseman/catcher Tyler Soderstrom (wrist) was activated off the 10-day injured list on Saturday afternoon. In a corresponding move, the Athletics optioned Armando Alvarez. The 22-year-old was kept out of MLB action for just over two months due to a bone bruise on his left wrist. Before the injury, Soderstrom flashed high-upside power at times but struggled to find consistency as he posted a mere .219/.307/.404 line with seven round-trippers across 49 games. Under the hood, he boasted a 14.7% barrel rate and a 52.9% hard-hit rate, which suggests his power production was not a fluke. Fantasy managers looking for a second catcher with an upside for power should consider adding the former first-round pick, as he should see consistent playing time down the stretch. |

Fri Sep 6 2024 | 12:22 | Tyler Soderstrom Goes Deep In First Rehab Game |
Oakland Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (wrist) played in his first minor-league rehab game on Thursday with Triple-A Las Vegas as the designated hitter and went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, a run scored and a strikeout. Soderstrom's homer was a two-run shot and came on his final plate appearance of the contest in the sixth inning. Expect the A's to give him at least a few more rehab games and a chance to play first base with Vegas before they activate him from the injured list to close out the 2024 season in the big leagues in the last few weeks of the year. The 22-year-old hasn't played with the A's since July 9 due to a wrist injury, but the left-handed slugger should see regular playing time once he's back in Oakland. Soderstrom has improved slightly from his 45-game debut in 2023, batting .219 (32-for-146) this year with seven home runs and 20 RBI in 49 games played. |

Tue Sep 3 2024 | 12:22 | Tyler Soderstrom To Take Batting Practice On Tuesday |
Oakland Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (wrist), who is on the 10-day injured list with a stress reaction in his left wrist, will take batting practice on Tuesday at the Oakland Coliseum. If that goes well, Soderstrom is expected to join Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday to start a minor-league rehab assignment. Since he hasn't played in a major-league game since July 9, manager Mark Kotsay said Soderstrom will require several rehab games, which could make it tough for him to return before the end of the 2024 season. "He's missed quite a bit of time," Kotsay said. "He'll need some at-bats. We'd like to, hopefully, get him back here at some point. But I don't want to say that's set in stone. Wrist injuries and hand injuries always take time. I'll leave it as, when he gets started, we'll get an accurate assessment of what he needs." |

Sat Aug 31 2024 | 18:18 | Tyler Soderstrom Could Hit Off Pitching Machine This Weekend |
Oakland Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (wrist) could begin hitting foam balls off a pitching machine this weekend according to Oakland manager Mark Kotsay. Soderstrom was hitting off a tee earlier this week so his progression to being able to hit off a pitching machine, even if it is just foam balls, marks a positive sign for the 22-year-old. The lefty has been out of action since July 9th with a stress reaction in his left wrist. As of now he has no official timetable to return to action. With the A's out of playoff contention it may also be in Oakland's best interest to take their time with Soderstrom. Fantasy managers in need of help at first base may want to consider Seth Brown, who is hitting for an .839 OPS in the second half of the season and would be a sneaky add for the fantasy playoffs. |

Tue Aug 27 2024 | 14:06 | Tyler Soderstrom Begins Hitting Progression |
Oakland Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (wrist), whose placement on the 10-day injured list was retroactive to July 10, has advanced to a hitting progression as he recovers from a stress reaction in his left wrist. Soderstrom has been hitting off a tee and is expected to begin a soft-toss hitting program near the end of this week. He is likely to return to the A's at some point during September. Although his numbers don't look great in his second year in the big leagues, Soderstrom has taken a small step forward from his rookie year and is currently slashing .219/.307/.404 with a .711 OPS, seven home runs, 20 RBI and 12 runs scored in his 49 games played in 2024. The 22-year-old left-handed slugger should play regularly down the stretch at either first base or designated hitter to close out the year for the lowly A's. |

Sat Jul 13 2024 | 13:17 | Tyler Soderstrom Avoids Serious Injury |
Oakland Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (wrist) underwent recent testing to see the extent of his injury. The results showed the 22-year-old suffered a stress reaction but not a fracture. Soderstrom was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 11 and appears to have avoided a serious injury. Oakland skipper Mark Kotsay expressed that this was the best news the team could have hoped for. This positive news suggests that the former first-round selection could only be sidelined for a minimum stint on the injured list. Prior to the injury, Soderstrom was showcasing his power potential with seven long balls and 20 RBI across 49 games. |

Thu Jul 11 2024 | 16:58 | A's Put Tyler Soderstrom On 10-Day Injured List |
The Oakland Athletics placed first baseman Tyler Soderstrom (wrist) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a left-wrist bone bruise and recalled outfielder Seth Brown from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Brown earns his way back to the big leagues after hitting .403 with a 1.152 OPS, seven home runs, three doubles and 24 RBI in 16 games with Vegas. He'll make the start at first base on Thursday and will hit sixth against Boston Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck and should play regularly for the A's against right-handed pitching, at least until Soderstrom is able to return sometime after next week's All-Star break. In his second big-league season in 2024, Soderstrom has slashed just .219/.307/.404 with a .711 OPS, seven home runs, 20 RBI and 12 runs scored in 49 games. He has four hits in 22 at-bats with a double and three K's in six games in July, so perhaps some time off will do him well. |

Tue Jun 11 2024 | 10:59 | Tyler Soderstrom Goes Deep In A's Loss At Padres |
Oakland Athletics first baseman Tyler Soderstrom's second homer of the season was the sole highlight of Monday's 6-1 loss at the San Diego Padres. Soderstrom went deep off of Dylan Cease in the top of the second inning, his first since he homered against the Texas Rangers on May 8 in his first game after being called up. The rookie is hitting .200/.324/.350, however, Soderstrom is hitting .250/.368/.438 with an .806 OPS in 16 at-bats this month. Soderstrom is a promising source of power, and if the A's continue to be patient, he is capable of production that fantasy managers should keep an eye on as the season goes on in deeper leagues. |

Mon Mar 18 2024 | 01:29 | Tyler Soderstrom Sent To Minors |
Oakland Athletics catcher Tyler Soderstrom was sent down to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday. Soderstrom will get a little more seasoning in the minors while Shea Langeliers handles primary catcher duties on the big league squad. The move makes sense, as Soderstrom was slashing just .115/.172/.154 in 29 plate appearances this spring. Baseball America's number 73 prospect is still just 22 years old and has put up good numbers in the minors before, so dynasty owners shouldn't be too worried about him yet. |

Tue Jul 18 2023 | 21:22 | Tyler Soderstrom Not Starting Tuesday |
Oakland Athletics catcher/first baseman Tyler Soderstrom is absent from Tuesday's starting lineup for the game against the Boston Red Sox. With left-hander Joe Jacques on the bump, it might be a sign that the club wants to limit the left-handed rookie against southpaws. So far, through four games, Soderstrom owns a .231/.333/.231 slash line with no home runs. Jordan Diaz will take his spot in the lineup and bat third. The 22-year-old's offered some pop over 35 games with six home runs but is batting .238 with no speed. Still, fantasy managers in deeper leagues may want to take a chance on the young power bat in hopes he goes yard. |
