Wed Apr 1612:37Kerry Carpenter Out Against A Southpaw
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter is getting a day of rest with a left-hander on the mound in Wednesday's series finale versus the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field. Justyn-Henry Malloy is in right field and will bat leadoff, while second baseman Gleyber Torres is the designated hitter and batting second against Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana. Andy Ibanez is at second base and in the three-hole. Carpenter has gone 3-for-15 against lefties so far this year, but two of those hits cleared the fences. Overall, the 27-year-old has been a great source of power for fantasy managers in the early going with five home runs and 10 RBI in 17 games. Malloy has zero homers and has gone 7-for-34 (.206) this year, but he's worth a look as a DFS sleeper in the leadoff spot. Torres has a solo home run and is batting .571 in seven career at-bats against Quintana.

Mon Apr 713:07Kerry Carpenter, Trey Sweeney Out Versus Lefty
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter and shortstop Trey Sweeney will take a seat on the bench for Monday's series opener at Comerica Park against the visiting New York Yankees with left-hander Carlos Rodon on the bump. Manuel Margot will start in right field and bat fifth, while Javier Baez will get the start at short and bat sixth. Left-handed-hitting infielder Zach McKinstry is also out of the starting lineup. Carpenter won't also sit against southpaws, but he'll take a seat in this one to begin the week. He's gone just 7-for-32 (.219) in the first nine games of the season, but he's also added three home runs, a double and eight RBI for fantasy managers. Margot is much better against lefties but lacks pop for DFS upside. He's hitting .375 with an RBI in eight career at-bats against Rodon, while Baez is hitting just .133 against Rodon in 15 career at-bats.

Sun Apr 607:16Kerry Carpenter Hits Two-Run Shot On Saturday
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter went 1-for-5 with a two-run shot during Saturday's victory over the Chicago White Sox. Carpenter went deep in the second inning off Chicago right-hander Chris Martin. His home run also scored Justyn-Henry Malloy. This was Carpenter's third home run over the past two contests as he went deep twice in Friday's victory over the White Sox. Through the first eight games of the campaign, Carpenter has posted a .250/.241/.607 slash line with one double and three round-trippers. He has tallied eight RBI and scored four runs. Through the early part of the campaign, Carpenter has seen time in both left and right fields. Last season, the 27-year-old posted a .284/.345/.587 slash line with 18 round-trippers. He remains a must-start option as he continues this power surge.

Fri Apr 417:20Kerry Carpenter Goes Deep Twice In Win Over White Sox
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter showed his power in Friday's 7-4 win over the division-rival Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park by going 2-for-5 with two solo home runs and a strikeout. The home runs were Carpenter's first of the 2025 season, and he's now hitting .261 with an .815 OPS in the early going for fantasy managers. The 27-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder played in only 87 games in 2024 due to injuries, but when he was available, he was a consistent producer with a .284/.345/.587 slash line, career-high .932 OPS, 18 home runs, 57 RBI and 37 runs scored in 296 plate appearances. Carpenter's lack of success against left-handed pitching is a problem, though, and it affects his overall fantasy upside for those that have him rostered in mixed leagues.

Sat Oct 12 202412:01Kerry Carpenter Not In Tigers Lineup For Game 5
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) is not in the team's starting lineup for the pivotal Game 5 against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians on Saturday in the American League Division Series at Progressive Field. Carpenter injured his left hamstring running the bases in the Game 4 loss on Thursday, but there's a chance he would have been on the bench anyway on Saturday with left-hander Matthew Boyd going for Cleveland. It remains to be seen if the 27-year-old left-handed hitter will be available to pinch hit later in the game. With Carpenter out, Justyn-Henry Malloy is the designated hitter on Saturday and will bat leadoff for Detroit. The 24-year-old hit just over .200 with eight homers and 21 RBI in 71 games in his rookie season in 2024 but has been better in October, going 5-for-7 with a double and two walks in his first six postseason games. Malloy also has two hits in his three career at-bats versus Boyd.

Fri Oct 11 202421:31Kerry Carpenter Will Be Game-Time Decision On Saturday
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) will be a game time decision on Saturday in their ALDS finale against the Cleveland Guardians, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Carpenter was removed from Game 4 in the sixth inning with a hamstring injury he obtained running the bases. He will continue to be evaluated into Saturday to determine if he'll be able to go against Guardians' scheduled starter Matthew Boyd. The lefty's status for Saturday could be consequential for the Tigers' ALCS hopes. If he needs to be replaced on the roster, he would not be eligible for Detroit in the ALCS. If Carpenter must be replaced, Bligh Madris would likely take his spot as a contingency plan. Madris hit for a 95 OPS+ in 67 at-bats during the 2024 season but saw minimal chances against lefties, as will be the case Saturday against Boyd. Carpenter similarly saw lefties a minimal amount in the regular season, taking away much of the value either may have for DFS managers. Both should be avoided in DFS formats, as their impact on the game will only happen against a right-hander coming out of the bullpen.

Fri Oct 11 202416:01Kerry Carpenter's Status For Game 5 Is Unknown
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) will test out his hamstring injury on Friday and Saturday before the team decides his status for Game 5 of the American League Division Series on Saturday against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians on Saturday at Progressive Field. "We're gonna take as much time as we can to see what he can and can't handle," manager A.J. Hinch said. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter injured his left hamstring running the bases in the Game 4 loss on Thursday and had to be removed from the game. Even if Carpenter's hamstring checks out fine, he could start on the bench on Saturday for the winner-take-all game against Guardians left-hander Matthew Boyd. In his first six playoff games this year, Carpenter has gone 4-for-16 (.250) with a homer, three RBI, a walk and five strikeouts in his 17 plate appearances.

Thu Oct 10 202421:25Kerry Carpenter Leaves Game 4 With Hamstring Issue
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) departed Game 4 of the American League Division Series early at Comerica Park on Thursday against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians due to a left-hamstring issue. Carpenter injured himself running the bases in the sixth inning and was replaced by pinch-hitter Jace Jung in his next at-bat. Before leaving, Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a single, a run scored and two strikeouts in the 5-4 loss. It's unclear how serious the 27-year-old's injury is, but the good news is the team will have a day off on Friday before the deciding Game 5 of the ALDS back in Cleveland at Progressive Field on Saturday. The Tigers can ill-afford to lose one of their better hitters for any amount of time, especially if they advance to the Championship Series. Coming into Thursday's game, Carpenter had gone 3-for-13 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored in five postseason games.UPDATE: Manager A.J. Hinch said Carpenter will have tests done on his left hamstring.

Tue Oct 8 202400:08Kerry Carpenter Hits Decisive ALDS Game 2 Homer
Detroit Tigers outfielder/designated hitter Kerry Carpenter came up huge for his team in Monday's American League Division Series Game 2 3-0 win over the Guardians. Carpenter, who came into the game at DH in the eighth inning, went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run. With the game scoreless in the top of the ninth inning, the 27-year-old launched an Emmanuel Clase hanging slider into the right-field seats to score three. Carpenter had a great offensive regular season, slashing .284/.345/.587 with 18 HR, 37 runs scored, and 57 RBI in 296 plate appearances. One blemish in his game is his inability to hit left-handed pitching. Carpenter only had 32 regular-season plate appearances against lefties and hit a poor .107. He was not in the starting lineup for Game 2 because the Guardians started lefty Matthew Boyd. This shouldn't affect him for Game 3, as the Guardians' probable starter will be righty Alex Cobb.

Mon Oct 7 202414:01Kerry Carpenter Not In Game 2 Lineup Against A Lefty
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter will take a seat in Game 2 of the American League Division Series on Monday at Progressive Field against the Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Matthew Boyd. With Carpenter on the bench as usual against a lefty starter, Justyn-Henry Malloy will serve as the team's designated hitter and will bat leadoff against Boyd. Carpenter should be back in the starting lineup on Wednesday when the series shifts to Comerica Park in Detroit against Cleveland right-hander Alex Cobb. Carpenter hit just .107 (3-for-28) in a small sample size against lefties in 2024 with just one of his 18 home runs in 32 plate appearances. Malloy will be a DFS sleeper in the leadoff spot with his .203 average (41-for-202) on the year and eight home runs and 21 RBI in 71 games in his rookie season.

Wed Oct 2 202412:19Kerry Carpenter Hitting Second Against Astros
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter will serve as the designated hitter and bat second in Game 2 of the wild-card series on Wednesday against the Houston Astros and right-hander Hunter Brown at Minute Maid Park. Carpenter was not in the Game 1 lineup on Tuesday with left-hander Framber Valdez getting the start, but he's back in action near the top of the lineup with Brown on the mound for Houston in Game 2. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter missed a big chunk of time in 2024 due to injury, but when he was healthy, he was impressive, slashing .284/.345/.587 with a .932 OPS, 18 home runs and 57 RBI in 264 at-bats. Against righties, he hit .305 (72-for-236) with all but one of his home runs, so fantasy managers playing DFS on Wednesday should look his way. In the last month of the season in September, he went 18-for-65 (.277) at the plate with four homers, five doubles, a triple and 12 RBI in 22 games.

Thu Sep 26 202412:14Kerry Carpenter Sitting Against A Lefty
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter will start on the bench for Thursday's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays at Comerica Park with a left-hander on the mound. Matt Vierling is in left field and will bat cleanup, while Andy Ibanez draws into the lineup at third base and will hit leadoff against Rays left-hander Tyler Alexander. In just 84 games in his third big-league season, Carpenter has 17 home runs and is only four homers shy of setting a new career-high. However, he's really struggled against southpaws in 2024 in a small sample size, going 3-for-28 (.107) with one of his 17 home runs and 10 strikeouts in 32 plate appearances. Ibanez is in a nice lineup spot for DFS but still brings minimal upside with only five home runs and two steals in 216 at-bats this year. Vierling has hit .269 against lefties but with only three of his 16 long balls.

Wed Aug 28 202401:12Kerry Carpenter Homers, Records Three RBI
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter had a big day at the plate on Tuesday as his team beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-2. Carpenter went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a two-run home run in the sixth inning off of Angels starter Johnny Cueto. Carpenter has had a productive and consistent 2024 season up until this point. However, he has been very hot lately. In his last seven games, he is slashing .320/.393/.600 with two homers and six RBI. The 26-year-old is available in 18% of Yahoo! leagues and may be worth claiming if you need some power down the stretch.

Thu Aug 22 202411:08Kerry Carpenter With Another Home Run On Wednesday
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Cubs. Carpenter hit the injured list for two months with a back injury, but in the seven games since coming off of the IL, the 26-year-old has belted four home runs and driven in eight, although he's also struck out 11 times and has yet to draw a walk in that time. For the season, the Virginia Tech product has a .277-12-37-25-0 line with a 25.7% strikeout rate and a 5.8% walk rate. If he can continue to hit home runs out of the cleanup spot for the Tigers there should be plenty of RBI opportunities down the stretch, and his 17.2% barrel rate suggests that there will indeed be more long balls.

Sat Aug 17 202412:16Kerry Carpenter Out Against A Lefty
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter and rookie infielder Trey Sweeney will both head to the bench on Saturday at Comerica Park against the New York Yankees with a left-hander on the mound. Carpenter recently came off the 60-day injured list due to a back injury and has gone 5-for-16 since returning with three home runs and five RBI in four games while serving as the designated hitter. Second baseman Colt Keith (hamstring) is serving as the DH on Saturday and will hit cleanup against Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon. Carpenter, 26, could sit occasionally against lefties, but he needs to be rostered in most fantasy formats now that he's healthy. He's had only 161 at-bats in 2024, but he's already cleared the fences 11 times and driven in 34 runs for the Tigers while hitting .286 (46-for-161).

Thu Aug 15 202406:45Kerry Carpenter Homers On Wednesday
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter stayed hot in his team's 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners in 10 innings on Wednesday. Carpenter went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer to help propel the Tigers to the win. His homer was a big one as it tied the game at 2-2 in the eighth inning, allowing Detroit to complete the comeback win in extra innings. Carpenter has been red-hot at the plate lately as he is hitting .400 with five homers and nine RBI over his past seven games. Overall he has a .292 average, 11 homers, 24 runs, and 34 RBI over 154 at-bats this season.

Wed Aug 14 202400:25Kerry Carpenter Homers Twice In Tuesday's Return
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter (back) did not miss a beat in his first game back from the injured list in Tuesday's 15-1 rout of the Mariners. Carpenter, who had been on the IL since late May with a lumbar spine stress fracture, went 3-for-5 with a single, a solo home run, a two-run HR, and two strikeouts. Carpenter drove a second-inning George Kirby fastball to the opposite field, launching it into the left-field bullpen. He got Kirby again in the fourth inning, this time crushing the ball into the right-field seats. The 26-year-old was on a hot streak before getting injured and now owns a .293/.349/.613 slash line with 10 HR, 23 runs scored, and 32 RBI in 168 plate appearances. He could be a fantasy asset down the stretch if he can pick up where he left off prior to his IL stint.

Tue Aug 13 202412:01Kerry Carpenter Coming Off Injured List On Tuesday
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter (back) will be reinstated from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday before the team's game against the visiting Seattle Mariners, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Fantasy managers may not want to expect too much, too quickly from Carpenter, as he's been away from the big-league team since late May due to a lumbar spine stress fracture. The 26-year-old went 3-for-14 with a double, five strikeouts and a walk in four minor-league rehab games with Triple-A Toledo. Expect frequent rest days initially, but by the end of the season, the hope is that Carpenter will be an everyday outfielder for Detroit. He's at least worth a waiver-wire consideration in deep-mixed leagues if he's out there, as he was hitting .283/.342/.572 with a .914 OPS, eight homers and 29 RBI in 145 at-bats at the time of his injury earlier in 2024.UPDATE: Carpenter is serving as the designated hitter and is batting second in his return against Mariners right-hander George Kirby.

Tue Aug 6 202421:44Kerry Carpenter Starts Rehab Assignment Tuesday
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter (back) began his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. He started at designated hitter for the Mud Hens and batted second in the order on Tuesday. Recovering on the 60-day injured list since May 29, Carpenter is in the final stages of working his way back from a lumbar spine stress fracture and should be back with the Tigers at some point in early to mid-August. The 26-year-old left-handed-hitting slugger is slashing a robust .283/.342/.572 with eight home runs, 10 doubles, four triples, and 29 RBI across 163 plate appearances (50 games) as Detroit's primary right fielder this year. With strong four-category upside, he remains worth stashing in most fantasy leagues.

Thu Aug 1 202418:07Kerry Carpenter Running The Bases, Nearing Rehab Assignment
Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter (back) was seen running the bases on Thursday, according to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News. This is typically the final step before embarking on a rehab assignment. Carpenter has been sidelined since May stress fracture in his spine. Prior to the injury, the 26-year-old held a strong .283/.342/.572 line with eight home runs. Given how much time the Virginia Tech product has missed, he should be expected to embark on an extended rehab stint. When he returns, Carpenter should be the favorite to see the majority of opportunities in right field. In the meantime, Wenceel Perez and Justyn-Henry Malloy should continue to see most of the starts.
