Mon Mar 24 | 23:07 | Luis Campusano Optioned To Triple-A |
The San Diego Padres optioned catcher Luis Campusano to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday. In addition to Campusano, the Padres also sent outfielder Oscar Gonzalez and infielders Tyler Wade and Mason McCoy to the minors as they trim their roster down ahead of Opening Day this Thursday against the visiting Atlanta Braves. Campusano, a former second-rounder in 2017, opened as last year's starting catcher but then got injured and never recovered, while Kyle Higashioka proceeded to have a career year. Higashioka is now in Texas, but Campusano hit just .214 (6-for-28) with a homer and four RBI in 14 Cactus League games and will begin the year as the club's third catcher in the minor leagues behind Elias Diaz and veteran Martin Maldonado. There's still pop in his bat, but the inability to make more consistent contact has hurt him. For now, he's off the fantasy radar in all leagues. |

Wed Sep 11 2024 | 18:42 | Luis Campusano Optioned To Minors |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano has been optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday. The Padres were carrying three catchers with Elias Diaz and Kyle Higashioka also on the roster. Campusano was the odd man out which isn't shocking given his performance this season. He's hitting .227 with eight home runs and 40 RBI in 91 games. At one point, Campusano was viewed as the catcher of the future in San Diego. It's uncertain if that's still the case, but for now fantasy managers can go ahead and move on from him. |

Thu Aug 1 2024 | 10:31 | Luis Campusano Homers In Another Multi-Hit Effort |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI in Wednesday's 8-1 win over the Dodgers. It was the third multi-hit performance in his last four games, going 6-for-15 (.400) over that span with three runs scored and four RBI. The 25-year-old is now slashing .241/.284/.390 on the season with a .293 wOBA and 93 wRC+. Despite the hot stretch, as the backup to Kyle Higashioka, the former second-round pick can be left on the waiver wire. |

Sat Jul 13 2024 | 16:54 | Luis Campusano Starting On Saturday |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano is starting behind the dish on Saturday afternoon and is batting eighth. The 25-year-old recently returned from the 10-day injured list on Friday, July 3, but has begun to lose playing time to Kyle Higashioka. Campusano has made only two starts since returning, as Higashioka has carried a stellar .325/.372/.800 line with 6 long balls and 17 RBI in his past 12 games. Fantasy managers should continue to pay close attention to the San Diego lineup going forward, as both could enter a timeshare in the second half of the summer. Campusano should be faded in DFS this afternoon as he will face Atlanta right-hander Reynaldo Lopez, who carries an excellent 1.71 ERA. |

Fri Jul 5 2024 | 19:25 | Luis Campusano Coming Off The Injured List |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano (thumb) is with the team in San Diego ahead of the series opener on Friday at Petco Park against the visiting division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks and will be activated from the 10-day injured list, according to manager Mike Shildt. However, Campusano said he won't make his return to the lineup until the series finale on Sunday. Kyle Higashioka will do the catching on Friday and bat ninth against Diamondbacks right-hander Slade Cecconi. Since Campusano went on the injured list, Higashioka's bat has come alive with regular playing time behind the dish. The 25-year-old started off the year strong but started to slow down offensively before his thumb injury. He's batting .234 with five home runs, 31 RBI and 25 runs scored and could see more of an even split with Higashioka as he eases his way back into a more regular role behind the plate. |

Tue Jul 2 2024 | 12:35 | Luis Campusano Starts Rehab Assignment |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano (thumb) went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as the designated hitter in his first minor-league rehab game with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Monday night. It wasn't a great first rehab game for Campusano, but all that really matters is that he's back to playing in games as he rehabs his thumb injury. The 25-year-old will probably need to catch a few games down on the farm before the Padres feel comfortable reinstating him from the 10-day injured list. The Friars also probably aren't in a rush to do so after Kyle Higashioka went on a homer binge with eight long balls in the month of June with more playing time due to Campusano's injury. Campusano started the year off strong but hit a rough patch in May before his injury, so it's possible he and Higashioka have a more even playing time split when he returns to the big-league roster. |

Sat Jun 22 2024 | 18:32 | Luis Campusano To IL With Injured Thumb |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano (thumb) is going to the IL with an injured thumb. Manager Mike Shildt suggested that Campusano will only miss a minimum of 10 days. Catcher Brett Sullivan was called up from Triple-A to replace Campusano on the roster. Shildt said Campusano felt he would be good to play in a couple of days, but the team erred on the side of caution and did not want to be without a backup catcher. Campusano is hitting .234, with five home runs and 31 RBI this season for the Padres. Veteran Kyle Higashioka figures to get the bulk of the starts with Campusano on the IL. |

Fri Jun 21 2024 | 22:32 | Luis Campusano Dealing With Thumb Soreness |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano (thumb) was scratched from Friday's contest against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers as he deals with what manager Mike Shildt called "soreness and bruising" in his left thumb. It's unclear if an injured-list stint will be necessary, but if it is, Kyle Higashioka would be needed to take over starting catching duties in San Diego. In addition to his injury, the 25-year-old Campusano has cooled off at the plate since earlier in the year and is now slashing .234/.282/.371 with five home runs, 31 RBI and 25 runs scored in 205 at-bats as the Friars' primary catcher this year. In 15 games so far in June, he's gone 9-for-35 (.257) with a homer, three doubles, six RBI and six strikeouts. Higashioka might be worth a look in two-catcher leagues if Campusano hits the IL, but he has much less offensive upside. |

Fri Jun 21 2024 | 18:41 | Luis Campusano Scratched On Friday |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. There is no word yet on why Campusano was pulled from the lineup. The Padres should give an update on his status shortly. In his place, Kyle Higashioka will cover behind the plate and bat ninth versus right-hander Colin Rea. Fantasy managers who have Campusano rostered should adjust their lineups ahead of first pitch. |

Sun May 26 2024 | 14:39 | Luis Campusano Out Of Sundayâs Lineup |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano is not in Sunday's lineup as the Padres hope to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees. Campusano has started the first two games of the series and has gone 0-7 at the plate with two walks. As a result, Kyle Higashioka will have an opportunity to get some revenge against his former team on Sunday. He enters this game holding a poor .140/.140/.256 line with just one home run and six total hits through 15 games. He is best to avoid in DFS as he will face Clarke Schmidt, who has posted a stellar 0.92 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and 4:20 BB:K ratio in his previous three starts. |

Fri May 17 2024 | 17:26 | Luis Campusano Getting A Breather Friday |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano is taking the day off for the series opener on Friday in Atlanta against the Braves. With Campusano taking a day to rest, Kyle Higashioka will do the catching for right-handed knuckleballer Matt Waldron while hitting ninth against Braves left-hander Max Fried. The 25-year-old Campusano has been solid for the Padres in his first full season as their primary catcher. Through his first 40 games in 2024, he's hitting .267 (36-for-135) with three home runs, 24 RBI and 18 runs scored in 144 plate appearances. He'll almost certainly be back behind the plate for the second game of the series on Saturday. Higashioka isn't much of a hitter and should be avoided in DFS formats. The former Yankee backstop has gone 6-for-33 with a homer and two RBI so far this year. |

Sat May 11 2024 | 18:29 | Luis Campusano Out Of Saturday's Lineup |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano will take a seat Saturday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kyle Higashioka will start behind the plate for the Friars and will catch knuckleballer Matt Waldron. Campusano is hitting .283 with three home runs, 23 RBI and 17 runs scored. This looks to be a standard day off for Campusano in the second game of the series. Higashioka is hitting just .194 (6-for-31) on the year with a homer and two RBI and will be a catching option to avoid in DFS in the nine-hold for the Padres against Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander James Paxton. |

Sun Apr 28 2024 | 14:06 | Luis Campusano Not Found in Sundayâs Lineup |
San Diego Padres backstop Luis Campusano will be on the bench on Sunday as the Padres hope to avoid a three-game sweep against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 25-year-old has made three consecutive starts and has posted an overall .286/.316/.396 line. Campusano currently holds an excellent 10.5% K rate, placing him in the top 97th percentile among qualified hitters. Kyle Higashioka will slot in behind the dish today and will face Taijuan Walker, who will make his season debut. Higashioka is a desperation play in DFS as he is riding a .190/.190/.381 line with just one RBI. Campusano should be expected to return to the lineup as the Padres open a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds on Monday. |

Sat Apr 13 2024 | 19:00 | Luis Campusano Out Of Lineup On Saturday |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano is out of the lineup on Saturday in the Padres matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kyle Higashioka will be starting in his place. Campusano has been the starting catcher in six of the Padres last seven games so this is likely just a rest day for the 25-year-old. Expect Campusano to be back out in the starting lineup on Saturday against Dodgers' left-hander James Paxton. Campusano hit lefties well last season, putting up a 1.114 OPS in 47 PA. |

Wed Apr 3 2024 | 15:34 | Luis Campusano Getting A Breather In Series Finale |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano is getting the day off in the series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. With Campusano getting the breather, Kyle Higashioka will catch right-hander Joe Musgrove and bat ninth in the order against Cardinals left-hander Zack Thompson. It's not a surprise to see Campusano starting on the bench in a day game after a night game. The 25-year-old backstop has been great so far this year in his first season as San Diego's primary catcher, going 12-for-30 (.400) with a home run, three doubles, seven RBI and five runs scored in the first seven games. Higashioka, who is known more for his work on defense behind the plate, should be avoided in DFS contests. He has never faced Thompson in his career. |

Sat Mar 30 2024 | 16:46 | Luis Campusano Out Of Lineup Saturday Night |
San Diego Padres catcherLuis Campusanois out of the starting lineup for Saturday night's game against the San Francisco Giants.Kyle Higashiokagets the start behind the plate instead of Campusano, hitting .333 (6 hits in 18 at-bats) with two RBI on the season thus far. Campusano was considered a fantasy sleeper this year and will likely be back in the lineup for the series finale with the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon. Campusano will get about 75% of the starts behind the plate for the Padres this year. He should be rostered in all leagues that require two catchers. Higashioka can be avoided in a tough matchup against Giants right-hander Jordan Hicks. |

Mon Mar 4 2024 | 08:05 | Luis Campusano Goes Yard For First Homer Of Spring |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano went 1-for-3 with two-run home run in Sunday's Cactus League contest versus the Seattle Mariners. Campusano, 25, belted his first dinger of the spring to help the Padres cruise to a 12-4 victory. One of the Padres former top prospects, Campusano is still just scratching the surface at the big-league level and will have the opportunity to be the primary catcher for San Diego, ahead of the Kyle Higashioka. Campusano has struggled with injuries in the past, but played in career-high 49 games in 2023. During that time, he his a respectable .319 with seven long balls and 30 RBI. While he struggles with his defense, his offense is what will keep him in the lineup and make him a boom-or-bust option in deeper leagues. |

Mon Jan 1 2024 | 20:55 | Luis Campusano To Take Over As Primary Catcher |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano is poised to take over as the team's primary catcher in 2024. However, the 25-year-old backstop needs to stay healthy after being limited to 49 games in 2023. Campusano had an .847 OPS in his 49 games. No other Padres catcher has had an .800 OPS over at least 80 games since Nick Hundley in 2011. Kyle Higashioka, who was acquired from the New York Yankees in the Juan Soto trade, could take some pressure off of Campusano by catching around 70 games. Campusano doesn't offer much defensively, but he has offensive upside in fantasy after clubbing seven home runs, driving in 30 and scoring 27 runs while hitting .319/.356/.491 in 174 plate appearances. |

Sat Sep 30 2023 | 17:29 | Luis Campusano Placed On 10-Day Injured List |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano (ankle) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. The Padres were taking things as day-to-day with Campusano, but it appears that wasn't working. Now, he'll land on the injured list, which basically means he's done for the season. The Padres figure to split up the playing time between Brett Sullivan and Chandler Seagle over the final few games of the regular season. |

Fri Sep 29 2023 | 16:38 | Luis Campusano Starting On The Bench Again |
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano will start Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox on the bench for the fourth straight game. In his absence, Brett Sullivan will do the catching and hit seventh against White Sox right-hander Dylan Cease. Campusano isn't believed to be dealing with an injury, and it's a bit odd since he's currently riding a six-game hitting streak in which he's gone 11-for-23 (.478) with a homer, double, five RBI and four runs scored. The Friars technically have not been eliminated from wild-card contention in the National League, either. Campusano is turning 25 years old on Friday and has hit a strong .319 (52-for-163) this year with a career-high seven home runs, 30 RBI and 27 runs scored in 49 games in his fourth MLB season. |
