Mon Apr 2818:03Adley Rutschman Back In Baltimore's Lineup On Monday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (hand) is doing the catching for right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano on Monday and is hitting third against the division-rival New York Yankees and right-hander Will Warren at Camden Yards. Rutschman did not play on Sunday against the Detroit Tigers due to a sore right hand that stemmed from when he blocked all ball in the dirt on Saturday. It wasn't a serious concern, though, and the 27-year-old backstop will end up missing just one game. Rutschman has been a disappointment for fantasy manager early on in the season, hitting just .209 (19-for-91) with four home runs, eight RBI and 12 runs scored. He's been especially bad in the last 11 games, going 5-for-37 (.135) with a homer, two RBI, seven walks and 10 strikeouts. We're expecting the former No. 1 overall pick to turn things around sooner than later.

Sun Apr 2713:51Adley Rutschman Out With Hand Injury
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (hand) will not be in the team's lineup on Sunday when they line up against the Detroit Tigers on the road. The switch-hitting backstop was apparently hit in the hand on Saturday during Baltimore's second game of the doubleheader, though he was not pulled from the contest. Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com reports that he'll be available off the bench for the series finale. Rutschman has been struggling at the dish over the last few weeks, tallying just five hits (one home run) over his previous 37 at-bats (.135). Per statcast, the former first-round pick is due for some positive regression, as his xBA of .276 is quite a ways off his actual .209. Gary Sanchez is behind the plate and batting fifth against Detroit to close out the series.

Sat Apr 2612:54Adley Rutschman, Ryan Mountcastle Not In Game 1 Lineup
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman and first baseman Ryan Mountcastle will take a seat in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday against the Detroit Tigers with Casey Mize on the mound. Both Orioles hitters have been struggling lately; however, the decision by manager Brandon Hyde not to start them in Game 1 is due to the nature of the doubleheader, so fantasy managers should not look too much into it. In the meantime, Gary Sanchez will start behind the plate and bat eighth in place of Rutschman. Ryan O'Hearn will start at first base because of Mountcastle, moving Jordan Westburg into the designated hitter spot while Ramon Urias starts at third base.

Sat Apr 514:16Adley Rutschman, Ryan O'Hearn Sitting On Saturday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman and first baseman Ryan O'Hearn are not in the starting lineup on Saturday afternoon when they face the Kansas City Royals. Rutschman will receive a maintenance day as he has started in each of the first eight games of the regular season. During the start of the campaign, Rutschman has held a .258/.343/.484 line with one double and two round trippers. He will cede catching duties to Gary Sanchez this afternoon. O'Hearn has not tallied a hit in each of his past two contests and will leave the designated hitter spot open for Gunnar Henderson. Ramon Urias will enter the lineup and cover the hot corner as well. Fantasy managers should expect Rutschman to return to the lineup on Sunday, facing southpaw Kris Bubic. However, O'Hearn will likely continue to ride pine as he typically sits against left-handed pitching.

Fri Mar 2800:25Adley Rutschman Blasts Two Home Runs In Three-Hit Day
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman slugged two home runs in Thursday's 12-2 drubbing of Jose Berrios and the Toronto Blue Jays. The 27-year-old went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored in the contest, picking up where he left off Grapefruit League play, where he slashed .357/.438/.595 with three home runs in 16 games. The former first-overall draft pick started strong last season, earning his second All-Star nomination, however, he struggled mightily in the second half. Hopefully this performance sets the switch-hitter up for sustained success throughout the entire 2025 season, and he lives up to the 60th-overall fantasy draft price.

Wed Sep 25 202418:32Adley Rutschman Taking A Seat
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees. The O's will give their star catcher a breather after he's started in each of the last five games. The postseason is quickly approaching and the Orioles want to keep Rutschman fresh. That being said, James McCann will start behind the plate and bat ninth against right-hander Marcus Stroman. McCann is hitting .227 with seven homers this season, so fantasy managers can probably find a better streaming option ahead of Wednesday's slate.

Sun Aug 18 202412:02Adley Rutschman Back In Lineup On Sunday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (back) is back behind the plate and is batting fifth on Sunday at Camden Yards against the division-rival Boston Red Sox and right-hander Kutter Crawford. Rutschman was scratched from Friday's series opener on Friday and also sat out of Saturday's contest, but he's feeling good enough to give it a go in the series finale. The 26-year-old switch-hitting All-Star catcher needs to be returned to starting lineups in all fantasy formats. He's one of the best hitting players at the weak catcher position and has gone 12-for-42 (.286) with three doubles, a triple and eight RBI in 13 games played in the month of August. And in eight career at-bats against Crawford, Rutschman is hitting .250 with an .875 OPS, one home run and two RBI.

Fri Aug 16 202419:20Adley Rutschman Scratched With Back Discomfort
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman (back) was scratched from Friday's lineup at Camden Yards against the division-rival Boston Red Sox due to lower-back discomfort, the team announced. With Rutschman a little beat up, catcher James McCann made the start behind the plate and is hitting in the nine-hole against Red Sox left-hander Brennan Bernardino. For now, fantasy managers will want to consider Rutschman as day-to-day and check back on Saturday to see if he's back in action. Losing the 26-year-old switch-hitting, All-Star catcher for any length of time would be a big blow to the Orioles and fantasy managers alike. Rutschman has continued to swing a hot bat in August, going 12-for-40 (.300) with three doubles, a triple and eight RBI in 12 games played. Check back later for a potential update on the severity of his back injury.

Sun Aug 11 202412:02Adley Rutschman Getting A Day Off On Sunday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is getting a day off on Sunday against the hosting division-rival Tampa Bay Rays. James McCann will do the catching for right-hander Albert Suarez and will bat ninth against Rays left-hander Jeffrey Springs. It appears to be a normal day of rest for Rutschman in a matinee affair to close out the series. The 26-year-old All-Star backstop should be back in the O's lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the visiting Washington Nationals after a scheduled day off for the team on Monday. Rutschman had a three-hit game on Saturday night and has been hot so far in the month of August, going 9-for-28 (.321) with three doubles, a triple, seven RBI and four runs scored in eight games played. McCann will be a low-upside DFS sleeper at the catcher position for Sunday's slate of games and should be avoided.

Wed Jul 31 202412:14Adley Rutschman Getting Another Day Off
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is taking another day off on Wednesday in the series finale against the visiting division-rival Toronto Blue Jays. With Rutschman taking the day off, James McCann will make the start behind the plate and will bat ninth against Blue Jays right-hander Paolo Espino despite breaking his nose on a hit-by-pitch the other day. The 26-year-old Rutschman has gone just 5-for-36 (.139) with a homer, double, two RBI, six walks and five strikeouts in 10 games since the All-Star break and has received several days off of late as the O's try to get him through his recent funk at the plate. Despite his slump in July, Rutschman remains one of the best hitting catchers in the game and should remain in starting lineups in all fantasy formats. DFS managers should be able to find better options at catcher than McCann.

Mon Jul 29 202415:00Adley Rutschman Out For Game 1 Of Doubleheader
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is sitting for the first game of a doubleheader on Monday against the visiting division-rival Toronto Blue Jays. James McCann will do the catching for the second straight game and will bat ninth against Blue Jays rookie right-hander Yariel Rodriguez. It's the second straight game that Rutschman has sat out amidst a slump, but fantasy managers should be able to count on him playing in the nightcap to race right-hander Bowden Francis. The 26-year-old switch-hitting All-Star catcher is still a must-start in all fantasy lineups when he's active, but keep in mind that he's in the middle of a rough patch offensively in July in which he's gone 9-for-68 (.132) with two homers, a double, six RBI, 12 walks and eight strikeouts in 19 games played. The former first-rounder should break out of his funk sooner than later.

Sun Jul 28 202412:02Adley Rutschman Sitting Out On Sunday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is taking the day off as the Orioles look to avoid the three-game sweep on Sunday at the hands of the visiting San Diego Padres. James McCann will do the catching for Baltimore and will bat ninth against Padres right-hander Randy Vasquez. Rutschman remains one of the best hitting catchers in the big leagues and is a must-start in fantasy lineups when he's active, but the 26-year-old switch-hitting former first overall pick in 2019 out of Oregon State is in a bit of a funk at the plate right now. In 18 games in July, he's gone 9-for-68 (.132) with two homers, a double, six RBI, 11 walks and eight strikeouts in 79 plate appearances to drop his season slash line to .266/.333/.430. McCann is a DFS option to avoid and he's never faced Vasquez in his career.

Thu Jul 25 202412:02Adley Rutschman Sitting Out On Thursday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman is not in the team's starting lineup on Thursday against the hosting Miami Marlins. It's just a normal day of rest for the All-Star backstop in a matinee game after a night contest. James McCann will be behind the plate and will bat in the nine-hole for the O's against Marlins right-hander Roddery Munoz. Rutschman will head to the bench after starting each of the team's last 13 games. It's a good time for a break, too, as Rutschman has struggled in the month of July, going just 8-for-56 (.143) with two homers, a double, six RBI, 10 walks and five strikeouts in 15 games played. Despite the recent rough stretch at the plate, Rutschman has been a must-start, high-end fantasy catcher in all formats in his third year in the big leagues. McCann is hitting just .211 (28-for-133) with three homers and 13 RBI in 2024.

The All-Star is hitting .288 with 16 home runs, 59 RBI, one stolen base, and 46 runs scored on the season. Rutschman has slumped recently, with two hits in 20 at-bats over the last week. Fri Jun 28 202416:37Adley Rutschman's X-Rays Come Back Negative
X-rays on Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman's right hand came back negative, and he's feeling better, but he is out of Friday's starting lineup against the visiting Texas Rangers. Rutschman was hit on his throwing hand in Thursday night's win over the Rangers by a foul tip behind the plate, but he remained in the game and even hit a home run later in the contest. It's great news that he's feeling better and that his X-rays came back negative, but he'll get a day to rest on Friday. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now and check back to see if he's back in there for Saturday's game at Camden Yards. When active, the 26-year-old backstop is one of the most productive catchers in baseball. James McCann is doing the catching for right-hander Albert Suarez on Friday and will hit ninth against Rangers veteran right-hander Max Scherzer, who will be making just his second start of the season.

Thu Jun 27 202422:07Adley Rutschman Battling Hand Issue
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman's (hand) right hand was wrapped up after it was hit by a foul tip in Thursday's game against the defending-champion Texas Rangers. Considering Rutschman stayed in the game and homered after, however, the issue should be of minimal concern to the O's and fantasy managers going forward. Following Thursday's effort, the 26-year-old former top prospect is slashing a rock-solid .300/.351/.479 with 15 long balls, 12 doubles, 55 RBI, and one stolen base over 317 at-bats (77 games) as Baltimore's everyday backstop. If Rutschman's hand swells up overnight and he can't continue to play through the problem, veteran James McCann would be in line for a spot start behind the plate as a potential DFS budget play on Friday against the Rangers.

Mon Jun 10 202400:19Adley Rutschman Hits Grand Slam On Sunday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman continued his hot June on Sunday, going 3-for-5 with a run, a homer, and six RBI. His grand slam in the eighth ended any hopes Tampa had at a comeback, and the O's ended up winning 9-2. Rutschman is now hitting .359 with six runs, three homers, and 12 RBI in nine June games. For the season, the 26-year-old has a .306 AVG with 35 runs, 13 homers, 49 RBI, and a stolen base. He has lived up to his high ADP thus far and should remain a top-tier catcher for the rest of the season, especially in points leagues.

Wed May 29 202416:16Adley Rutschman Getting A Day Off Wednesday
Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman has a planned day off on Wednesday against the visiting Boston Red Sox. With Rutschman getting a breather, James McCann will do the catching for right-hander Corbin Burnes and will bat ninth against Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford. Wednesday will be only the fourth day off of the season for Rutschman, who typically serves as the designated hitter on days that he's not behind the plate. The 26-year-old switch-hitting backstop is one of the best overall hitters in the league and is currently slashing .299/.336/.479 with an .815 OPS, 10 home runs, 37 RBI and 29 runs scored in 211 at-bats in 2024. The former first overall pick in 2019 out of Oregon State is an elite fantasy catcher. McCann is a weak DFS play at catcher with just one homer and a .203 average in 79 at-bats for the O's.
