Fri Aug 23 2024 | 13:01 | Keegan Akin Back From Paternity Leave |
The Baltimore Orioles reinstated left-hander Keegan Akin from the paternity list on Friday and optioned left-hander Nick Vespi to Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. Akin will return to the team after being away for the last three days for the birth of his child. The 29-year-old southpaw will return to Baltimore's bullpen this weekend for the remainder of their series against the Houston Astros at Camden Yards. The former second-round selection in 2016 out of Western Michigan has already appeared in a career-high 51 games (all in relief) for the O's in 2024 and has gone 2-0 with a 3.52 ERA (2.99 FIP), a 0.95 WHIP and 78:16 K:BB in 64 innings. Akin has been much better than his 3.52 ERA would indicate and will now return to a key role in Baltimore's bullpen. |

Mon Sep 6 2021 | 11:49 | Keegan Akin Gives Up Grand Slam Sunday |
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Keegan Akin faltered after a string of successful starts in Sunday's 8-7 win over the Yankees. Akin pitched just 4 innings, allowing four runs on three hits (including a grand slam) and two walks with five strikeouts. The 26-year-old has pitched better lately but still owns a 7.00 ERA and 1.63 WHIP on the season. His next start will be a tougher one against the Blue Jays at home. Fantasy managers should stay away from Akin despite his good recent starts. |

Wed Sep 1 2021 | 01:04 | Keegan Akin Earns Second Consecutive Win Tuesday |
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Keegan Akin picked up his second win of the season in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Blue Jays. Akin pitched 5 innings, allowing one run on two hits (including a solo home run) and three walks with five strikeouts. The 26-year-old has now strung together two solid starts, but his season ERA still sits at an unsightly 6.90. His next start will be a decent matchup against the Royals at home, but fantasy managers should not go anywhere near him with the fantasy playoffs starting. |

Fri Aug 27 2021 | 10:10 | Keegan Akin Pitches Rare Gem Thursday |
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Keegan Akin found his groove in Thursday's 13-1 win over the Angels. Akin pitched 7 innings, allowing one run on three hits (including a leadoff home run to Shohei Ohtani) and two walks with six strikeouts. It was the first start all season for Akin in which he pitched 6 innings, let alone 7 and was his first win of the season. It was nice to see him find success, but Akin is now 1-8 on the season with a 7.26 ERA and 1.70 WHIP, so fantasy managers should not expect routine performance like this from him. His next start will be a tough one at the Blue Jays. |

Sat Aug 21 2021 | 01:33 | Keegan Akin Takes Eighth Loss Against Atlanta |
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Keegan Akin remained winless Friday, taking his eighth loss of the season against the Atlanta Braves. He allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in five innings, striking out three batters along the way. He gave up two home runs. Akin sports a 7.92 ERA and 1.81 WHIP for the year, so it's hard to say he's been unlucky in the wins department. He'll continue to get opportunities in the Orioles rotation, but he should be far from fantasy rosters. |

Mon Aug 16 2021 | 11:41 | Keegan Akin Takes Another Loss Sunday |
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Keegan Akin fell to 0-7 in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Red Sox. Akin pitched 4 innings, allowing three runs on six hits (including a three-run home run) and three walks with two strikeouts. Nothing has gone right for Akin this season, as he has an 8.13 ERA and 1.82 WHIP over 58 2/3 IP. His next matchup will be a tough one against the Braves at home, but fantasy managers already know to steer well clear of Akin in all leagues. |

Wed Jul 21 2021 | 12:52 | Orioles put Akin, Santander on COVID-19 IL |
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles placed left-hander Keegan Akin and outfielder Anthony Santander on the COVID-19 injured list before Wednesday’s game at Tampa Bay. Akin had been scheduled to start against the Rays. Baltimore manager Brandon Hyde learned about the situation late Tuesday night. “We’re following the protocols,” Hyde said. “There’s going to be more information. This is pretty last-minute news, so there’s going to be more information as we go along, but right now we’re putting two guys on the injured list because of COVID protocols and then we’ll go from there.” Alexander Wells, who was on the taxi squad, replaced Akin as Wednesday’s starter. Outfielder Ryan McKenna, who had been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, rejoined the team. “You’ve seen it a few times here with the league with other clubs," Hyde said. "It's really the first time this has happened with us and it’s unfortunate, but I saw that a couple other teams had same sort of issue recently and ready for it to be over.” ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports |
