Fri Mar 2817:39Seth Brown Starting In Left Field Against Mariners
Athletics outfielder Seth Brown will make the start in left field and will hit sixth on Friday against the division-rival Seattle Mariners and right-hander Luis Castillo at T-Mobile Park. Miguel Andujar, who made the start in left on Opening Day on Thursday, will retreat to the bench. Brown is expected to find himself on the A's bench more often than not in 2025, but he has hit .333 with a 1.012 OPS and a solo home run in 15 career at-bats against Castillo. The former 19th-round pick in 2015 out of Lewis-Clark State College is worthy of a bench spot for outfield in deep AL-only leagues, at best. The 32-year-old veteran lefty swinger hit .231/.283/.379 with a .662 OPS, 14 home runs and 44 RBI in his 124 games for the A's a season ago. We wouldn't recommend Brown for DFS lineups on Friday.

Wed Nov 20 202423:35Seth Brown Avoids Arbitration With A's
The Athletics avoided salary arbitration with outfielder/first baseman Seth Brown on Wednesday, agreeing to terms on an undisclosed one-year contract for the 2025 campaign. Brown made $2.6 million in 2024 and provided a .231/.283/.379 slash line with a below-average .662 OPS, 14 home runs, 44 RBI, four stolen bases and 32 runs scored in 400 plate appearances and 124 games in his sixth season with the organization. The 32-year-old left-handed-hitting veteran will remain with the club as they transition to playing their home games in Sacramento in 2025 and figures to play a platoon role against right-handed pitching. He actually had a lower average (.229) against lefties than righties last season but hit 13 of his 14 round-trippers against righties. Brown will mostly be an AL-only outfielder for depth given his limited upside on one of the weakest teams in baseball.

Thu Sep 12 202412:18Seth Brown, Max Schuemann, Ryan Noda On The Bench
Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown, infielder Max Schuemann and first baseman Ryan Noda are all out of the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the division-rival Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. Daz Cameron is starting in left field and is batting eighth, Nick Allen is at the hot corner and is hitting ninth, and Tyler Nevin will man first base and hit seventh against Astros left-hander Framber Valdez. Allen has the best numbers in his career against Valdez, hitting .385 against him with an .852 OPS and an RBI in 13 at-bats, but none of Cameron, Allen or Nevin are particularly attractive DFS sleepers in this matchup on the road. Brown and Noda, who was recently called up from the minors, both hit from the left side, so it's no surprise why they are on the bench on Thursday against a tough southpaw.

Sat Aug 10 202412:51Seth Brown Reinstated From Paternity List
The Oakland Athletics reinstated first baseman/outfielder Seth Brown from the paternity list on Saturday and optioned infielder Armando Alvarez to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Brown isn't in the team's starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the hosting Toronto Blue Jays, but he should occasionally slot into the lineup at first base or in right field when the team faces right-handed pitching. On a bad A's team, the 32-year-old veteran left-handed hitter really only belongs on rosters as a depth piece in AL-only leagues. He's not an everyday player and is batting just .213/.270/.371 with a below-average .641 OPS, 10 home runs, 24 RBI and four stolen bases in 240 at-bats this year. He's been better since the All-Star break, though, going 12-for-47 (.255) with three homers, a double and five RBI in 16 games (13 starts).

Wed Aug 7 202414:28A's Place Seth Brown On Paternity List
The Oakland Athletics placed first baseman/outfielder Seth Brown on the paternity list on Wednesday and recalled third baseman Armando Alvarez from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Brown will now be away from the team for up to three days. The 32-year-old left-handed-hitting veteran is really only an option for outfield and corner-infield depth in AL-only leagues while playing for the A's. In 240 at-bats in his sixth big-league season in Oakland, he's hitting just .213 (51-for-240) with 10 home runs, 24 RBI and 21 runs scored in 83 games played. Even for the rebuilding A's, Smith isn't an everyday player despite hitting a career-high 25 home runs two seasons ago in 2022.

Wed Jul 24 202409:08Seth Brown Goes Yard In Victory
Oakland Athletics first baseman Seth Brown went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's victory versus the division rival Houston Astros. Brown was one of five Athletics to round the bases in the contest and is now up to eight homers on the season with 20 RBI and a .197 batting average. At this point of his career, the 32-year-old is what he is, a bench bat that carries a good amount of power, but not much else. With the trade deadline approaching and Oakland clearly in a rebuild, there is a chance he can be dealt or see less playing time for a younger player. Either way, Brown can be left on the waiver wire.

Mon Jul 15 202401:00Seth Brown Contributes To Barrage With Pair Of Homers
Oakland Athletics first baseman/outfielder Seth Brown had a big day on Sunday, belting two homers in an 18-3 drubbing of the Philadelphia Phillies. The A's hit a whopping eight homers in this one, and Brown did his part by smashing a couple of solo shots. He finished the day 3-for-5 and added three runs and three RBI to his totals. It's been a tough year for the 32-year-old, who has a .202 AVG, 16 runs, seven homers, 19 RBI, and four swipes over 193 at-bats. He doesn't need to be rostered in any fantasy formats.

Fri Apr 12 202409:29Seth Brown Hits First Homer Of 2024
Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's victory against the Texas Rangers. Brown's home run in the top of the second off Jon Gray would be the only run scored by both teams in a low offensive output. In addition to his home run, he also doubled. He is now hitting .175 with four RBI in 40 at-bats. Brown has been a steady source of power with 59 career home runs in the last three seasons, but that has been about it with a weak .225 career batting average. As with most power hitters that hurt managers in the average department, you have to ride them while they are hot and hopefully Thursday's performance can be the start of something good for Brown. For now, Brown can remain on the waiver wire in most formats.

Sat Sep 30 202320:54Seth Brown Not Seen In Saturday's Lineup
Oakland Athletics first baseman/outfielder Seth Brown (oblique) is out of Saturday's lineup against the Los Angeles Angels. Brown left Thursday's series finale with the Minnesota Twins due to left oblique soreness and has missed the prior two outings as a result. The 31-year-old will have one more chance to return to play before the campaign concludes after Sunday's series finale in Anaheim. The lefty-hitting Brown is slashing a pedestrian .222/.286/.405 with 14 home runs, 52 RBI, and three stolen bases in 343 at-bats this season. Brent Rooker is in right field and batting third while Carlos Perez is at designated hitter and hitting seventh against right-hander Andrew Wantz on Saturday.

Thu Sep 28 202318:34Seth Brown Leaves Thursday's Game Early
Oakland Athletics infielder/outfielder Seth Brown (oblique) was pulled from Thursday's game against the Minnesota Twins with left oblique soreness. He went 0-for-2 before Tyler Soderstrom replaced him as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning. Brown flashed an interesting blend of power and speed at the first base position a season ago but showed diminished fantasy appeal in the anemic A's lineup during 2023. The 31-year-old is slashing .222/.286/.405 with 14 home runs, 52 RBI, and three stolen bases in 343 at-bats. It's fair to consider Brown day-to-day ahead of Oakland's series finale versus the Los Angeles Angels. Look for Aledmys Diaz and Tony Kemp to help out as corner outfielders while Ryan Noda mostly occupies first base.

Wed Sep 6 202312:56Seth Brown Records Multi-Hit Game Against Blue Jays
Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two strikeouts in the team's 7-1 loss to the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night. The left-handed-hitting Brown is only hitting .215 (62-for-289) on the season with 13 home runs, 45 RBI and 29 runs scored in 92 games (319 plate appearances) in his fifth season in Oakland, but he's been heating up at the plate of late. Since Aug. 28, the 31-year-old outfielder has gone 6-for-23 (.261) with two home runs, three doubles, three RBI and four runs scored in seven games played (six starts). Brown's two-hit performance on Tuesday was his first multi-hit game since Aug. 18.

Tue Aug 22 202321:17Seth Brown Sitting On Tuesday
Oakland Athletics first baseman/outfielder Seth Brown is absent from Tuesday's lineup for the matchup against left-hander Angel Zerpa and the Kansas City Royals. The slugger has struggled this season to a .219/.285/.406 slash line with 11 bombs, 23 runs, 42 RBI, and a pair of steals over 79 games. Brown's even worse against lefties and owns just a .285 OPS off of southpaws this year, so it makes sense to give him the day off. Instead, Aledmys Diaz will take his spot in the outfield and bat fifth. The 33-year-old hasn't done much with the bat, as he's hitting .226 with just four homers across 87 games and is irrelevant in all fantasy formats.

Tue Jul 18 202321:14Seth Brown On The Bench Against Left-Hander
Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown is on the bench to start Tuesday's matchup with left-hander Joe Jacques and the Boston Red Sox. The slugger struggles against southpaws (career .460 OPS), so it's a good time to give him a break. When Brown has played this season, he's struggled to the tune of a .194 average with nine homers and two steals over 52 contests. Tony Kemp will get a shot to start, playing left field and batting leadoff. The 31-year-old doesn't offer much with the bat, slashing .203/.287/.289 with three home runs, but he has swiped 10 bags across 75 games. Kemp also owns a .273 average this season off of lefties, so he's a decent waiver-wire play in deep leagues.

Mon May 22 202319:24A's Reinstate Seth Brown From Injured List
The Oakland Athletics reinstated outfielder Seth Brown (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on Monday and optioned infielder Jordan Diaz to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Brown is starting in right field and is hitting cleanup in his first game back on Monday night against right-hander Luis Castillo and the Seattle Mariners. The 30-year-old left-handed hitter has played in only eight games this year due to his left-oblique strain, but he's now back in the outfield picture for the A's moving forward. Before the injury, Brown had gone 6-for-30 (.200) with two doubles, a home run, two RBI, one steal and two runs scored in 32 plate appearances. He will once again be an option for outfield depth for fantasy managers in deep-mixed and AL-only leagues.

Thu May 11 202321:19Seth Brown To Begin Rehab Assignment Saturday
Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown (oblique) is slated to begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Las Vegas. Brown had been sidelined since April 9 due to a Grade 2 oblique strain. The 30-year-old slashed .200/.250/.367 with a home run, two RBI, two runs, and a stolen base across eight games before landing on the injured list. He is expected to play around three to five games in Triple-A before being activated from the injured list. Brown will serve as the team's primary left fielder when he returns to the lineup, and fantasy managers can look to add him in deep-league formats after he smashed 25 homers and stole 11 bases in 2022.

Tue Apr 11 202318:41Seth Brown To Miss At Least One Month
Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday. The left-handed slugger suffered a Grade 2 oblique strain on a check swing during Saturday's game. The organization expects Brown to be sidelined roughly 4-to-6 weeks. It sounds like the best case is that Brown returns in mid-May, but it'll likely be closer to the end of the month. In a corresponding move, the A's recalled infielder Kevin Smith from Triple-A. The expectation is that Conner Capel and Brent Rooker will see more at-bats with Brown sidelined.

Mon Apr 10 202314:14A's Put Seth Brown On 10-Day Injured List
The Oakland Athletics placed outfielder Seth Brown (oblique) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 9) on Monday and recalled infielder Kevin Smith from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Brown injured his oblique over the weekend and will now miss at least a bit of time. On top of the injury, the 30-year-old left-handed hitter had gone only 6-for-30 (.200) with two doubles, a home run, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in his first eight games of the season. With Brown sidelined for now, the A's will turn to the likes of Conner Capel and Brent Rooker to fill their opening in left field. Capel is likely the better option in AL-only leagues, as he'll likely see most of the playing time as a left-handed hitter against right-handed pitchers.

Sat Jul 23 202212:17Seth Brown Hits Two-Run Shot
Oakland Athletics first baseman Seth Brown led the way offensively to a 5-4 win over the Texas Rangers Friday, going 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, his 12th long ball of the season. While Brown has not been particularly impressive with a .702 OPS in 314 plate appearances this season, he has added seven stolen bases to those 12 home runs, giving him some value as a compiler in deep fantasy formats. His last stolen base came on June 23 though, so it's possible he won't improve much on his current total.

Fri Jun 3 202202:18Seth Brown Looking To Break Cold Streak Vs. Red Sox
Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown is currently slumping extremely hard. So far in 2022, Brown is slashing just .204/.276/.401 with a weighted runs created plus (wRC+) of 97 (Major League Baseball average is 100) over 163 plate appearances. While Brown does have a career-high hard-hit rate of 41.2%, Brown also ranks in the 41st percentile in chase rate, leading to 41 strikeouts. For Brown to maintain his starting job with the rebuilding Athletics, the 29-year-old will need to do a better job staying disciplined at the plate. Brown is 3-for-17 with no home runs over the last week, so you can survive with Brown on your bench against Jose Urquidy and the Astros on Friday.

Wed May 4 202214:43Seth Brown Is In Wednesday's Lineup
Oakland Athletics outfielder Seth Brown is in the team's starting lineup for a Wednesday matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Corey Kluber. Brown is batting .176 with a .260 on-base percentage, two home runs, and a stolen base in 77 plate appearances so far. The 29-year-old is hitting fifth against Kluber and the Rays and starting at first base. Fantasy managers looking for streaming help in the outfield or at first base are probably better off looking elsewhere.
