Tue Apr 1509:19Luis Arraez Helps Padres Stay Undefeated At Home
San Diego Padres first baseman Luis Arraez hit his second home run of the season while going 3-for-5 with two runs scored in Monday night's win over the visiting Cubs. San Diego's 10-4 victory brought them to an MLB-best 14-3 record for the season and a perfect 11-0 at Petco Park. Arraez's solo home run came in the eighth inning as the second of back-to-back blasts, following Fernando Tatis Jr.'s second homer of the game. In his 17 games this season, Arraez now has a .282 batting average and .314 wOBA, but his slight downturn in average appears mostly due to bad luck with just a .261 BABIP. His hard-hit rate is on track with last year's mark, and he should be due for some positive regression as he continues to hit near the top of the order for one of the best offenses in baseball.

Thu Apr 305:28Luis Arraez Homers, Steals A Base In Win On Wednesday
San Diego Padres first baseman Luis Arraez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, two runs, and a stolen base in a 5-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday. Arraez gave the Padres an insurance run with his solo shot off Tim Herrin in the seventh inning. The veteran infielder had been off to a slow start in 2025 with just two hits in 23 at-bats coming into the game. Arraez is not known for his home-run stroke as he hit just four homers in 637 at-bats during the 2024 season, so fantasy managers shouldn't start him expecting him to carry them in the power department despite his performance on Wednesday. He will hope his big game turns around his early-season fortune moving forward.

Thu Feb 2014:54Luis Arraez's Thumb Injury A Thing Of The Past
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Luis Arraez (thumb) had surgery last October to fix a torn UCL in his left thumb that he suffered on June 25, but it shouldn't be an issue going forward. " I feel like I got a new thumb," Arraez said. The three-time All-Star still managed to win his third straight batting title after being traded from the Miami Marlins to the Padres in the first half of the season, and he also led the league with 200 hits. However, Arraez's slugging percentage was down considerably and he had only four round-trippers, 46 RBI, nine stolen bases and 83 runs scored in 672 total plate appearances and 150 games played. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter should continue to hit for a very high average to help fantasy managers, but he's a one-category producer and won't do much else. RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 19 fantasy first baseman.

Thu Feb 1314:10Luis Arraez To Play First Base
San Diego Padres president of baseball operations A.J. Preller said he sees infielder Luis Arraez as the team's starting first baseman this year. "They're everyday guys that'll be on the field," manager Mike Shildt said of Arraez and Jake Cronenworth being on the right side of the infield in 2025. Arraez will surely also see time as the club's designated hitter, but it appears he'll spend most of his time at first, with Cronenworth at the keystone. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter won his third straight batting title in 2024 by hitting .314 (200-for-637) while also being named to his third straight All-Star team. The Venezuelan has a unique skill set at the plate with elite bat-to-ball skills, and what he did last year is even more impressive, considering he played a large chunk of the season with a torn UCL in his left thumb. Arraez is great for your team batting average, but he does very little else.

Tue Jan 1408:27Padres Would Prefer To Hold Luis Arraez
According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, the San Diego Padres would prefer to hold infielder Luis Arraez. Arraez has had his name circling around several trade discussions throughout the offseason. However, the Padres and Arraez settled on a $14 million to avoid arbitration last week. Lin noted that even though the team remains focused on winning a championship, they remain open to moving a few of their higher contracts to create some roster flexibility. Starting pitcher Dylan Cease and right-handed relief pitcher Robert Suarez have also had their names around trade talks. Last season, Arraez posted at least a .300 AVG for the third-straight campaign. Last summer, he held a .314 AVG across time with Miami and San Diego. Under the hood, he posted a stellar 4.3% K rate but lacked in power production. The 27-year-old remains one of the top targets for batting average but carries very low power upside.

Thu Jan 915:06Luis Arraez, Padres Settle On $14 Million Deal
Infielder Luis Arraez and the San Diego Padres settled on a $14 million deal for the 2025 season on Thursday to avoid salary arbitration, according to a source. Arraez will get a $3.5 million raise in his final year of arbitration eligibility. With the Padres looking to cut salary this year, they've explored trading Arraez to the New York Yankees, although no deal is close. The 27-year-old Venezuelan is the best contact hitter in the game and won the batting title for the third straight season while playing for the Padres and Miami Marlins. It's hard to believe his .314 average was a step back from 2023, and he also had surgery in October to fix a torn ligament in his left thumb. Arraez surely has a unique skill set, but his lack of defensive prowess and speed mostly make him a one-category contributor (average) in fantasy. If he stays in SD, Arraez should hit leadoff in a strong lineup.

Mon Jan 619:20Luis Arraez No Longer Viewed As Option For The Yankees
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez is no longer viewed as a fit for the New York Yankees. Earlier on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that both sides were in the process of discussing a deal, but Heyman's report suggests that discussions may have come to standstill. The New York Yankees have been looking to acquire another infielder as they are still unsure where Jazz Chisholm Jr. will play in 2025. If Chisholm returns to second base, they could be interested in seeking a third baseman but if Chisholm were to move to the hot corner, than Arraez could be a potential fit to cover second base. However, reports last week suggest that the Yankees may opt to give the final spot in the infield to someone currently on the roster such as DJ LeMahieu, Oswald Peraza, or Oswaldo Cabrera. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor this situation as Arraez would be a valuable fantasy asset in the Yankees lineup batting leadoff behind ... [More]

Mon Jan 614:53Yankees Talking With Padres About Luis Arraez
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the New York Yankees continue to talk with the San Diego Padres about infielder Luis Arraez. The Yankees have also inquired about Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Gavin Lux to fill their opening at second base. After failing to re-sign superstar outfielder Juan Soto, the Yankees signed left-hander Max Fried, right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga and first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and traded for closer Devin Williams, center fielder Cody Bellinger and reliever Fernando Cruz to make their team deeper. None of those additions are guaranteed to be around beyond next season, though, while stars ... [More]

Wed Oct 16 202423:13Luis Arraez Has Thumb Surgery, Expected To Be Ready For Opening Day
San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez (thumb) had surgery on his thumb on Wednesday to repair a torn left thumb ligament. Having all offseason to recover, the 27-year-old is expected to be ready to go on Opening Day. The 3x All-Star was a key piece to the Padres' run to the playoffs after coming over from the Marlins in May, hitting .318 with a .324 wOBA and 111 wRC+ on his way to a third batting title with his third different team. While he's one of the best contact hitters in all of baseball, he doesn't move the needle all that much for fantasy as he doesn't hit for power which also results in low RBI numbers, and for someone who always seems to be on base, he does not swipe many bags.

Sun Sep 29 202419:49Luis Arraez Clinches Batting Title
San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez picked up his third batting title of his career on Sunday. Arraez went 1-for-3 with a single during Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. That single was enough to push Arraez to a .314 batting average and win him the batting title. The 27-year-old has remained a force at the plate since being traded from the Miami Marlins early in the season. The assumption is that Arraez will remain at the top order heading into the postseason.

Fri Sep 20 202418:10Luis Arraez Returning To The Lineup
San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez (knee) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Arraez sat out of Wednesday's game due to knee soreness and received the next day off with the team not playing on Thursday. It appears Arraez is good to go now as he'll bat leadoff and serve as the designated hitter against left-hander Garrett Crochet. Arraez is hitting .320 with nearly 200 hits on the season, so fantasy managers better make sure to get him back in their lineups ahead of first pitch.

Wed Sep 18 202418:14Luis Arraez Absent On Wednesday
San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez (knee) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Houston Astros. Arraez suffered a knee injury during Monday's contest, but he was back in the lineup on Tuesday. Possibly, Arraez suffered a setback or this is a routine rest day against a tough left-handed pitcher. It's worth noting that Arraez had started in each of the last 15 games prior to Wednesday's contest. Jake Cronenworth will cover second base and bat seventh versus lefty Framber Valdez. Cronenworth is hitting under .200 against left-handers this season, so he can be avoided as a streaming option on Wednesday.

Tue Sep 17 202412:01Luis Arraez Dealing With Knee Injury
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Luis Arraez (knee) jammed his right knee sliding into home plate in Monday night's win over the visiting Houston Astros, but he said it is just inflammation. Arraez thinks he'll be ready to go on Tuesday, but he needs to wait and see. The 27-year-old hit machine stayed in the game after sliding into home plate but was replaced by a pinch-runner in the seventh inning after he doubled and hobbled into second base. Before leaving, he had two hits in four at-bats to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. Arraez also snapped a string of 141 straight plate appearances without a strikeout on Monday when he fanned early in the game. The Venezuelan has very little power (four homers) or speed (nine steals), but he's an elite contact hitter who is now batting .323 (194-for-601) on the year. Consider Arraez to be day-to-day for now.

Tue Sep 17 202400:31Luis Arraez Removed Early On Monday
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Luis Arraez (undisclosed) looked to be shaken up after being thrown out at the plate while trying to score on Jurickson Profar's single on Monday night at Petco Park against the Houston Astros and appeared to be favoring his right leg. Arraez batted for himself in the seventh inning, doubled and hobbled to second base. With something clearly still bothering him, Tyler Wade was sent in to pinch run for Arraez. The 27-year-old appeared to be dealing with some sort of lower-body injury, possibly his knee, but he should be considered day-to-day for now until we know more specifics about his ailment. Before leaving, he went 2-for-4 with a strikeout to extend his hitting streak to 14 games while also striking out in the third inning to snap a stretch of 141 plate appearances without a strikeout. The Venezuelan remains an elite contact and average guy (.322) for the Friars.

Sat Aug 24 202400:52Luis Arraez Swats Rare Homer In Win
San Diego Padres first baseman Luis Arraez hit a rare home run in Friday night's easy win over the visiting New York Mets at Petco Park, going deep for just the fourth time this season in the victory. Before tacking on an RBI single in the third inning of Friday's rout against New York, Arraez gave the Padres an early 1-0 lead with a solo homer to ambush Mets right-hander Paul Blackburn in the opening frame. The 27-year-old All-Star contact specialist hasn't been quite as good as he was when he won the National League batting title in 2023, but he's still batting a strong .309 (117-for-379) with four long balls, 31 RBI, 45 runs scored, and six stolen bases in 88 outings since joining San Diego earlier this season.

Sat Aug 10 202412:22Luis Arraez Dealing With Torn Ligament In His Thumb
San Diego Padres first baseman/designated hitter Luis Arraez (thumb) revealed after Friday's extra-inning win over the Miami Marlins that he's been playing with a torn ligament in his left thumb. Arraez was examined by a doctor during the All-Star break and was told he could continue playing with the torn ligament, according to a source. It helps explain why the 27-year-old two-time batting champion sat out this year's All-Star game. The Venezuelan hitter is still hitting just over .300 on the season as a whole, but since the All-Star break, he's gone 18-for-70 (.257) with a homer, four doubles, six RBI, a stolen base and eight runs scored in 16 games played. Arraez doesn't do a whole lot for fantasy managers besides carry a high average, and his thumb injury could compromise his ability to rack up the hits the rest of the way in 2024.

Fri Jul 19 202416:17Luis Arraez Returns To Action On Friday
San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez (thumb) is serving as the designated hitter and is batting in his customary leadoff spot on Friday as he takes on the hosting Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Tanner Bibee to start the second half of the season. Arraez didn't miss any time to close out the first half of the season despite dealing with a jammed left thumb, but he did skip this week's All-Star festivities to rest up. He's still one of the best contact and average hitters in the game, but Arraez has hit just .268 (11-for-41) with a double and two RBI in 10 games so far in the month of July, and his thumb injury will be worth watching as we begin the second half. Overall, though, the 27-year-old Venezuelan has a strong .310 average (122-for-394) and .342 on-base percentage for fantasy managers, but it has come with just two homers, 24 RBI and three steals.

Sun Jul 14 202419:38Luis Arraez Won't Participate In All-Star Game
San Diego Padres second baseman Luis Arraez (thumb) will not participate in the upcoming All-Star Game next week. The 27-year-old was held out on Sunday and appears to be dealing with a minor thumb issue. He's not going to take any chances and has decided to pull himself out of the contest. Fantasy managers shouldn't need to worry as it sounds like a minor issue. Expect the National League to name a replacement for him soon.

Sun Jul 14 202413:34Luis Arraez Sitting Out Versus Southpaw
San Diego Padres infielder Luis Arraez is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves. Fantasy managers don't need to worry about an injury as this appears to be a matchups decision. In his place, Donovan Solano will serve as the designated hitter and bat second versus left-hander Chris Sale. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups ahead of first pitch with Arraez taking a seat.

Mon Jun 3 202419:14Luis Arraez Not Playing Monday
San Diego Padres second baseman Luis Arraez (shoulder) is out on Monday for the series opener on the road against the Los Angeles Angels after leaving Sunday's game against the Royals early after a slide into second base. With Arraez on the bench, Jake Cronenworth will shift to second base and bat fifth against Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson. Donovan Solano is at first and is hitting cleanup, while outfielder Jurickson Profar is serving as the designated hitter and is batting leadoff for the Friars. Cronenworth does have a homer but is also hitting just .105 in 19 career at-bats against Anderson. While Profar will have added DFS appeal atop the batting order, he's batting .188 in 16 career at-bats against Anderson. Manager Mike Shildt said the team doesn't think it's anything structural with Arraez and he's just dealing with stiffness and soreness. Shildt wouldn't rule out Arraez being available off the bench, so the two-time batting champ could be back in the starting lineup as soon as Tuesday in Anaheim.
