Mon Feb 17 | 18:46 | Josh Sborz Placed On 60-Day Injured List |
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Josh Sborz (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day injured list earlier on Monday. This transaction opened a roster spot for right-handed pitcher Luke Jackson, who the team signed to a one-year contract on Monday. Sborz underwent shoulder surgery earlier in the offseason and is expected to miss the opening months of the 2025 campaign. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status. Last season, Sborz logged just 16 1/3 innings at the major league level as he battled the same shoulder injury. Across this small stint, the 31-year-old held a 3.86 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He was very effective during their World Series run in 2023, as he posted a near-perfect 0.75 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP with a 4:13 BB:K ratio across 12 frames. When he does return, Sborz should have a high-leverage role in the Texas bullpen. |

Sat Nov 23 2024 | 20:09 | Josh Sborz Remaining In Texas |
The Texas Rangers and relief pitcher Josh Sborz agreed on a one-year contract to avoid arbitration, according to the team. The 30-year-old battled numerous injuries this past summer and logged only 16 1/3 innings of work. The right-hander had a 3.86 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP during this limited sample size. The relief pitcher is set to miss some time during the start of the 2025 campaign as he is still recovering from his shoulder operation. Sborz was a crucial member of their World Series run in 2023, as he posted a near-perfect 0.75 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP in 12 frames of work. Fantasy managers should expect Sborz to return to his typical high-leverage role in the Texas bullpen in 2025, and he could be a viable option for holds if he can return to form following his recovery. |

Tue Nov 5 2024 | 16:04 | Josh Sborz Still Deciding On Course Of Action |
Texas Rangers right-handed reliever Josh Sborz (shoulder) has visited with several shoulder expects since the season ended and both he and the team have yet to decide on a path forward, according to president of baseball operations Chris Young. Sborz appeared only 17 times out of Texas' bullpen in 2024 due to his right-shoulder troubles, ultimately culminating with him finishing the year on the injured list. The 30-year-old is likely deciding on whether to go under the knife, which would almost assuredly mean that he won't be ready for the start of the 2025 regular season. The Rangers' bullpen could look quite different next year, with Kirby Yates, David Robertson and Jose Leclerc all being free agents. Sborz had a 3.86 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 17 K's and only four walks in his 16 1/3 relief innings in 2024. |

Thu Apr 25 2024 | 16:22 | Rangers Activate Josh Sborz From Injured List |
The Texas Rangers activated right-hander Josh Sborz (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Thursday and optioned right-hander Grant Anderson from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Sborz is returning from a right rotator-cuff strain after making one minor-league rehab appearance for Double-A Frisco on Tuesday. The 30-year-old reliever had 2 2/3 scoreless innings for Texas with no walks and three strikeouts earlier this month before going on the shelf with his right-shoulder injury. Now that he's back, Sborz will return to a high-leverage relief role late in games as a setup man alongside David Robertson and Jose Leclerc ahead of closer Kirby Yates. In 44 relief outings for Texas in the regular season in 2023, Sborz had a 5.50 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 17 walks and 66 K's in 52 1/3 innings. |

Tue Feb 20 2024 | 13:30 | Josh Sborz A High-Leverage Option For Rangers |
Along with Texas Rangers relievers Jose Leclerc, Kirby Yates and David Robertson, right-hander Josh Sborz will be a high-leverage option for the team in the late innings in 2024. Manager Bruce Bochy isn't placing any of the four potential closing options in any sort of order in spring training, but Leclerc and Robertson figure to have the best chance for regular save opportunities. The 30-year-old Sborz had a rough 5.50 ERA last year, but his 3.35 xERA as well as his 36.9 percent strikeout rate point to a rebound in the ERA department this year. As long as he's able to stay healthy -- he's been on the injured list five times in the last two years -- Sborz should at least be interesting for fantasy managers in holds leagues in the back of Texas' bullpen. |

Thu Jul 27 2023 | 08:16 | Josh Sborz Begins Rehab Assignment Wednesday |
Texas Rangers right-hander Josh Sborz (biceps) threw a scoreless inning with Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, the first game of his rehab assignment, striking out one and allowing a single hit. The 29-year-old has been out of action since earlier this month after suffering biceps tendinitis. Over 37.2 innings, Sborz owns a 4.54 ERA but with a 1.09 WHIP, 34.0% strikeout rate, and 10 holds. Fantasy managers can expect the five-year vet to return near the end of July, but he'll only have some value in hold leagues for the remainder of the season. |

Sat Jul 15 2023 | 13:49 | Josh Sborz Heading To The 15-Day Injured List |
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Josh Sborz (biceps) has been placed on the 15-day injured list with biceps tendinitis. The 29-year-old reliever has no timetable for his return at the moment. John King was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to take Sborz's place on the active roster. Sborz has been a solid option out of the Rangers' bullpen so far this season, recording a 3.93 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and 49:13 K/BB ratio over 36 2/3 innings. |

Fri Aug 12 2022 | 11:30 | Josh Sborz Named Opener For Friday |
Texas Rangers pitcher Josh Sborz will make the start against the Seattle Mariners on Friday. This appears to be a bullpen game as Sborz is expected to pitch an inning or two. He currently holds a 5.87 ERA through 15.3 innings with the Rangers this season. He won't be a recommended fantasy option, so fantasy managers can look elsewhere for help for Friday's slate. |

Sun Jun 6 2021 | 23:44 | La Russa gets 2,764th win, passes McGraw for 2nd place |
CHICAGO (AP) — Tony La Russa moved past John McGraw into sole possession of second on baseball’s career manager wins list, directing the Chicago White Sox to a 3-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. It was win No. 2,764 for La Russa, who was hired by Chicago in October for his first managerial job since he led St. Louis to the World Series championship in 2011. It has been a bit of a bumpy ride so far, but the 76-year-old Hall of Famer has the White Sox on top of the AL Central. Second on the list is almost assuredly the highest finish for La Russa, who also began his managerial career with the White Sox in 1979. The top spot belongs to Connie Mack with 3,731 victories. La Russa watched as Chicago won for the 10th time in 14 games. Dylan Cease (4-2) struck out 10 in seven sparkling innings, Liam Hendriks worked the ninth for his 15th save and Tim Anderson had two hits and two RBIs. Sat May 8 2021 | 01:55 | Miley pitches MLB's 4th no-hitter of season, 2nd in 3 days |
CLEVELAND (AP) — Wade Miley pitched baseball’s second no-hitter in three days — and fourth already this season — leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-0 win Friday night over the Cleveland Indians, who were no-hit for the second time in a month. Miley (4-2) relied on breaking pitches and his experience of 11-plus major league seasons to baffle the Indians and throw Cincinnati’s first no-hitter since Homer Bailey in 2013. The left-hander shook off an 83-minute rain delay to start the game and followed Baltimore’s John Means, who no-hit Seattle on Wednesday,. Joe Musgrove threw San Diego's first no-hotter on April 9. Five days later, Chicago White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodón blanked the Indians. Arizona’s Madison Bumgarner pitched a seven-inning no-hitter against Atlanta on April 25, but that one isn’t recognized as official because it didn’t go nine innings. This is the earliest in a calendar year there have been four no-hitters since 1917, when the fourth was thrown on May 5 and the fifth... [ More] |
