Fri Apr 4 | 19:58 | Vidal Brujan's Rehab Stalls |
Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell said on Friday that infielder Vidal Brujan (elbow) has stalled in his rehab and has had continued symptoms, especially with his throwing. Brujan landed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right elbow that he suffered after just one game played, and now he'll miss even more time. It's a good bet that he won't be back until at least May given this latest news. When healthy, the 27-year-old won't have much fantasy value anyway as a backup infielder for the Cubs. The Dominican infielder also has some experience in the outfield and will primarily be useful to Chicago for his defensive versatility when healthy. Brujan has been overmatched at the plate in his five big-league seasons, slashing just .189/.261/.270 with a .531 OPS, five home runs, 40 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 202 games played. |

Tue Mar 25 | 15:51 | Vidal Brujan Could Start On Injured List |
Chicago Cubs infielder Vidal Brujan (elbow) is dealing with a right-elbow injury after banging it on the outfield wall while trying to make a catch in Cactus League action over the weekend. The Athletic's Sahadev Sharma reports that Brujan could start the year on the injured list. In his first camp with the Cubs, the 27-year-old Dominican hit just .222 (8-for-36) with a homer, double, triple, three RBI, five stolen bases and five runs scored in 16 spring training games. When healthy, he figures to serve as a utility infielder across the diamond for the Cubs, limiting his fantasy appeal to basically NL-only leagues. In his four major-league seasons to this point with the Tampa Bay Rays and Miami Marlins, Brujan has struggled at the plate, slashing .189/.261/.270 with a .531 OPS, five homers, 40 RBI and 14 steals in 201 games played. |

Mon Feb 10 | 22:42 | Vidal Brujan, Alexander Canario, Gage Workman Good Bets For Opening Day Roster |
Because of the fact that Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner (elbow) isn't a lock for Opening Day in 2025, utility men Vidal Brujan, Alexander Canario and Gage Workman are safe picks for the roster going into spring training, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. The Cubs acquired Brujan from the Miami Marlins this offseason, and the 27-year-old can play both infield and outfield. Canario is out of minor-league options and will give the Cubs a right-handed bat off the bench against lefties. Workman can play multiple infield positions, but as a Rule 5 pick, he must remain on the big-league roster or be sent back to the Detroit Tigers. Once a top prospect of the Tampa Bay Rays, Brujan has struggled offensively in the majors, but he certainly will give Chicago positional flexibility. Canario, 24, has an .857 OPS in just 52 major-league at-bats the last two years. |

Sun Dec 29 2024 | 20:29 | Vidal Brujan Acquired By Chicago |
According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Chicago Cubs are acquiring infielder Vidal Brujan from the Miami Marlins in exchange for first baseman Matt Mervis. Brujan began his big league career with the Tampa Bay Rays before moving to Miami last summer. Across a hefty 227 games at the Triple-A level, the infielder held a strong .272/.357/.451 line with 243 total hits and 89 stolen bases. However, the 26-year-old was never able to see that production translate to the major leagues as he posted a poor .189/.261/.270 slash line across 201 games at the major leagues. He swiped only 14 bags and hit five long balls. Brujan could compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster but will likely spend most of the summer at Triple-A, given his struggles in the majors. |

Fri Dec 20 2024 | 20:33 | Vidal Brujan Released By Miami |
According to Daniel Alvarez-Montes of the Miami Chapter Chair, the Miami Marlins have released infielder Vidal Brujan to make room for third baseman Eric Wagaman. Brujan began his major league career in the Tampa Bay system. Across 227 games at Triple-A, Brujan posted a solid .272/.357/.451 line with 29 home runs and 89 stolen bases. However, he struggled when he was given the call to the big leagues. In 2022, the infielder carried an underwhelming .163/.228/.259 line across a 52-game stint. Last season he played 102 games with the Miami Marlins and struggled as well posting a .222/.303/.319 line with just two home runs and five swiped bags. While he flashed great contact skills and speed in the minor leagues, he has yet to put it together in the majors. If he does find a suitor, he will likely compete for a spot on an Opening Day Roster during Spring Training. |

Tue Aug 13 2024 | 21:42 | Vidal Brujan Exits With Shoulder Sprain |
Miami Marlins infielder/outfielder Vidal Brujan (shoulder) exited with a right shoulder AC joint sprain in Tuesday's game against the hosting division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. Brujan injured his shoulder while making a spectacular diving catch in foul ground to end the third inning of Tuesday's series opener against Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park. He was clearly shaken up after getting to his feet, then being lifted for pinch-hitter Cristian Pache to begin the fourth inning. Although it's not saying much, the 26-year-old former top prospect is having his most successful season in the major leagues in 2024 by slashing .214/.302/.321 with two home runs, 13 RBI, 29 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 243 plate appearances (88 games) as a part-time utility man for the Marlins. Fantasy managers can deem him day-to-day prior to Tuesday's clash with the Phillies. |

Fri Aug 9 2024 | 16:16 | Vidal Brujan Sitting Against Padres |
Miami Marlins infielder/outfielder Vidal Brujan will take a seat on the bench for Friday's series opener against the visiting San Diego Padres with veteran left-hander Martin Perez on the bump in South Beach. Brujan has now been on the bench the last four times that the Fish have faced a southpaw. The Marlins will roll with Kyle Stowers, Derek Hill and David Hensley across the outfield from left to right field, respectively. Brujan, who is a switch-hitter, has actually been better against lefties than righties in 2024 but is hitting a combined .218/.306/.316 with a .622 OPS, one homer, 12 RBI, four stolen bases and 28 runs scored in 206 at-bats on the year, making him avoidable in mixed fantasy leagues. It's not a good sign that he's been on the bench the last four games against lefties after Miami traded away so much position-player talent at the July 30 deadline. |

Tue Aug 6 2024 | 16:12 | Vidal Brujan Sitting On Tuesday |
Miami Marlins super-utility man Vidal Brujan will start on the bench for Tuesday's contest against the visiting Cincinnati Reds. Brujan has the ability to play all over the diamond but got the start in center field on Monday and figures to share playing time there moving forward with new outfielder Cristian Pache. Pache is in center field on Tuesday and will hit in the six-hole against Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo. Pache is hitting .400 with a 1.100 OPS against Lodolo in his career, albeit in only five at-bats. DFS managers should be able to find better low-cost sleepers on Tuesday than Pache, who is hitting just .209 (23-for-110) this year with no home runs. Brujan, 26, should be a lineup regular for the Fish the rest of the way, but he's hitting a weak .219/.308/.318 with a homer, 11 RBI and four steals in 201 at-bats in 2024. |

Tue Jul 2 2024 | 16:07 | Vidal Brujan Returns, Otto Lopez Scratched |
Miami Marlins infielder/outfielder Vidal Brujan (undisclosed) is back in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting Boston Red Sox, starting at second base and batting seventh against Red Sox right-hander Cutter Crawford. Brujan missed both Saturday and Sunday against the Phillies for undisclosed reasons but is back in there after an off day on Monday. Otto Lopez (undisclosed) was scratched for unknown reasons on Tuesday. Xavier Edwards, who was just called up from Triple-A Jacksonville, will start at the 6 and bat sixth for the Fish. Veteran and former All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson was designated for assignment on Tuesday, so Brujan and Edwards should be the primary candidates to fill the shortstop position moving forward. Brujan is expected to be the biggest beneficiary as an everyday player for Miami now. |

Sat Mar 2 2024 | 13:56 | Vidal Brujan Likely To Make The Roster |
Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said that infielder/outfielder Vidal Brujan has "a high likelihood" of winning a spot on the Opening Day roster out of camp. "He's got a really good chance to make the team," Schumaker said. "He's versatile. He's done enough in Triple-A. He can run. He switch hits. He can do a lot of things for us. I haven't told him that he's made the team or anything like that, but I would anticipate him being part of our club." The 26-year-old was acquired in the offseason from the Rays and doesn't have minor-league options remaining, so it makes sense. Unless injuries strike Miami's starters, though, Brujan projects to be a super-utility man in Miami. In his three big-league seasons in Tampa, Brujan hit just .157/.218/.221 with three homers, 24 RBI and nine steals in 99 games played. |

Fri Nov 17 2023 | 22:45 | Marlins Acquire Vidal Brujan, Calvin Faucher From Rays |
The Miami Marlins acquired infielder/outfielder Vidal Brujan and right-hander Calvin Faucher (biceps) from the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday in exchange for infielder Erick Lara, right-hander Andrew Lindsey and a player to be named later or cash considerations. Brujan, a 25-year-old Dominican switch-hitter, really struggled offensively in his three seasons with the Rays, slashing .157/.218/.221 with three home runs, 24 RBI and nine stolen bases in 99 games played. He'll bring mostly defensive versatility to the Marlins and will likely start 2024 in the minors. Faucher, 28, finished the season on the 60-day injured list and had a rough 7.01 ERA and 1.67 WHIP with 12 walks and 25 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings over four outings (three starts) for Tampa this year. |

Mon Jun 5 2023 | 14:31 | Vidal Brujan Called Up And Starting Against Red Sox |
Tampa Bay Rays infielder/outfielder Vidal Brujan was called up from Triple-A Durham on Monday, and he's starting at second base and batting eighth in the lineup against Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello. Brujan rejoins the big-league squad with second baseman Brandon Lowe (back) landing on the injured list. The 25-year-old Dominican has just five hits in 20 at-bats in 11 games for the Rays so far in 2023, and he's likely to split playing time at the keystone with Taylor Walls and Isaac Paredes for as long as Lowe is on the shelf. The sporadic playing time won't make him very attractive as a utility player in mixed leagues. Brujan hit .238 (30-for-126) with four doubles, three triples, four home runs, 17 RBI and nine stolen bases in 32 games for Durham. |

Tue Apr 25 2023 | 14:22 | Rays Send Vidal Brujan To Minors |
The Tampa Bay Rays optioned outfielder/second baseman Vidal Brujan to the minor leagues on Tuesday to make room for the return of outfielder Jose Siri (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list. The 25-year-old Dominican will bide his time on the farm until he gets another call up to Tampa. In his first 11 games of the season, Brujan was hitting .250 (5-for-20) with three RBI and five runs scored in 21 plate appearances for the Rays as a bench player. The biggest issue for Brujan is the fact that he doesn't really have a set position on the big-league roster, but his positional versatility is nice for the team in real life. |

Mon Oct 3 2022 | 14:41 | Rays Recall Vidal Brujan On Monday |
The Tampa Bay Rays recalled infielder and outfielder Vidal Brujan on Monday. Brujan is batting .165 with a .234 on-base percentage in 154 plate appearances for the Rays this season, collecting a pair of home runs and five stolen bases. Able to play second base, third base, shortstop, and all three outfield positions, the 24-year-old will provide the Rays with some depth around the diamond. Tampa Bay also designated right-hander Easton McGee for assignment, selected right-hander Kevin Herget's contract, and optioned fellow infielder and outfielder Miles Mastrobuoni to Triple-A. |

Wed Aug 31 2022 | 14:36 | Rays Recall Vidal Brujan |
The Tampa Bay Rays recalled infielder and outfielder Vidal Brujan on Wednesday. Brujan has appeared in 46 games for Tampa Bay so far this season, hitting .167 with a .230 on-base percentage, two home runs, and four stolen bases in 152 plate appearances. He's been much more productive at Triple-A, however, with a .301 average, a .385 on-base percentage, four home runs, and 15 stolen bases in 213 plate appearances at the minors' highest level this season. The 24-year-old will give the Rays some added depth around the infield with Brandon Lowe landing on the injured list. |

Tue May 24 2022 | 14:32 | Vidal Brujan Not Starting On Tuesday |
Tampa Bay Rays infielder Vidal Brujan isn't in the starting lineup on Tuesday for a matchup with the Miami Marlins and right-hander Pablo Lopez. In 40 plate appearances in the Majors this season, Brujan is batting .108 with a .175 on-base percentage and a stolen base. Instead, it'll be Taylor Walls getting the start at second base and batting eighth against Lopez. Walls has hit .149 with a .252 on-base percentage, a home run, and five stolen bases in 115 plate appearances in 2022 for the Rays. Fantasy managers in search of streaming help at second base are probably better off looking elsewhere. |

Tue May 10 2022 | 16:33 | Vidal Brujan Called Up On Tuesday |
The Tampa Bay Rays called up middle infielder/outfielder Vidal Brujan from Triple-A on Tuesday. Right-handed pitcher Calvin Faucher was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Outfielder Manuel Margot (hamstring) suffered a hamstring injury during Monday's game. We haven't gotten any word on the severity of the injury yet, but the move to promote Brujan could be to give the team added outfield depth while Margot gets a little time off. Brujan made one appearance with the Rays earlier this year, but he's spent most of the season at Triple-A, where he's slashed .300/.400/.467 with six doubles, six stolen bases and 15 runs over 16 games. |

Mon Apr 25 2022 | 21:37 | Vidal Brujan Optioned To Triple-A On Monday |
The Tampa Bay Rays optioned infielder Vidal Brujan to Triple-A Durham on Monday. On Saturday, he was called up while Yandy Diaz was placed on the COVID-19 injured list. During his brief stint in the majors, the 24-year-old went 0-for-3 with a walk across one game. Brujan's best asset is his speed and is worth stashing in deep-league formats when he gets called up again. The Rays infielder swiped 44 bases across 103 games at Triple-A in 2021. In a corresponding move, Jeffrey Springs (COVID-19) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list. Springs is primarily used out of the bullpen, posting a 1-0 record with a 0.71 WHIP and nine strikeouts over seven innings in 2022. |

Sat Apr 23 2022 | 18:11 | Yandy Diaz Placed On COVID List, Vidal Brujan Called Up |
The Tampa Bay Rays have placed third baseman Yandy Diaz on the COVID-19 injured list. According to the team, he has been dealing with symptoms, but it's unclear if he's tested positive or not. The Rays called up infielder/outfielder Vidal Brujan from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Brujan made his MLB debut with the team last year. He played in 10 games and struggled at the plate, going just 2-for-26. He did, however, successfully steal a base in his first and only attempt. Brujan could serve as something of a super utility player for the Rays while he's up. His best asset is certainly his speed. He stole 44 bases over 103 games at Triple-A last year. |

Wed Mar 30 2022 | 14:50 | Rays Option Vidal Brujan To Minor League Camp |
The Tampa Bay Rays optioned second baseman/outfielder Vidal Brujan to minor league camp on Wednesday, trimming the number of active players in camp to 37. Brujan went just 2-for-26 with eight strikeouts for the Rays in his first taste of MLB action in 10 games for Tampa in 2021, so he could use a little more minor league seasoning before returning to the Show. But the switch-hitting 24-year-old is the team's No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he should show his face in Tampa again at some point in 2022. He's mainly attractive for his speed -- 44 stolen bases in the minors last year -- but it could be difficult for Brujan to secure an everyday role with the Rays in 2022. |
