Tue Apr 1502:04Tanner Scott Locks Down Rockies For Fifth Save
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Tanner Scott pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in a 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday. Scott allowed a pair of hits and struck out one in his inning of work. The lefty now has a 3.00 ERA and 0.89 WHIP and has gone 5-for-6 in his save opportunities. He appears to be the clear favorite for saves in LA, although Dave Roberts tends to change his bullpen usage more than other managers. Still, on a dominant LA team, Scott could be near the top of the league in saves this season if he can stay healthy and continue pitching well.

Tue Mar 1811:15Tanner Scott Earns First Save On Tuesday
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Tanner Scott locked down the first win of the season for the defending World Series champions early on Tuesday morning in the first game of the Tokyo series. Scott came into the 4-1 victory in the ninth inning and retired all three hitters he faced. He struck out Cubs' rookie Matt Shaw for the final out of the game and earned his first save since signing a four-year deal with the Dodgers this offseason. Last year, he had 22 saves between the Marlins and the Padres, and he should be positioned as one of the elite closers in the game if he stays in the primary closer role for the Dodgers this season.

Sun Feb 914:01Tanner Scott To See Most Of The Save Opportunities
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Tanner Scott is expected to see most of the save opportunities early in the season. Earlier in the offseason, the Dodgers signed Scott to a four-year, $72 million contract. However, the team also brought in Kirby Yates, who was one of the most dominant ninth-inning arms last season for the Texas Rangers. Given this update, fantasy managers should expect Scott to carry the most fantasy value in the bullpen early in the season. However, given how deep the Dodgers bullpen is, Scott may not be given a long leash if he struggles. Fantasy managers should expect Yates, Blake Treinen, Alex Vesia, and Michael Kopech (forearm) to be in the mix for save opportunities if Scott struggles. Last season, the southpaw posted a stellar 1.75 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP. He struck out batters at a strong 28.6 percent rate and generated an excellent 27.5 percent hard-hit rate.

Thu Jan 2322:38Tanner Scott Will Share Closing Duties
The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya reports that Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said that while left-handed reliever Tanner Scott will see plenty of ninth-inning chances in his first year with the team in 2025, he won't be the team's set closer. We figured as much, especially since the Dodgers also have Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips and Kirby Yates, who are all plenty capable of closing out games. Still, the 30-year-old Scott, who has 54 saves over the last three seasons with the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres, should see the most save opportunities for the Blue, making him the best closer target on this star-studded team for fantasy managers. The Dodgers signed Scott to a four-year, $72 million deal last weekend to further bolster their bullpen. On the best team in baseball, Scott should be considered a low-end No. 2 fantasy closer, at worst.

Sun Jan 1913:08Tanner Scott Agrees With Dodgers On Four-Year Deal
Free-agent left-handed reliever Tanner Scott and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal on Sunday, according to a source. The Dodgers are winning the offseason by a wide margin after also securing Japanese pitching phenom Roki Sasaki on Friday. Scott, 30, was the top closer available in free agency and will now join a Dodgers bullpen that already includes high-leverage right-handers Evan Phillips and Michael Kopech. While Scott could share save chances with Kopech, he should be considered the favorite for most of LA's save opportunities, boosting his fantasy value significantly on the best team in baseball. Scott was a first-time All-Star in 2024 and had a pristine 1.75 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with a career-high 22 saves, 84 strikeouts and 36 walks in 72 regular-season innings with the Marlins and Padres.

Sat Jan 1809:13Cubs Are Among The Favorites To Land Tanner Scott
According to Jon Morosi of the MLB Network, the Chicago Cubs are among the favorites to land free-agent relief pitcher Tanner Scott. Scott is one of the top remaining players on the open market. In addition to the Cubs, the Diamondbacks, Blue Jays, and Red Sox have been linked to the southpaw throughout the offseason. Last summer, Scott opened the campaign with the Miami Marlins and tallied 18 saves across 45 2/3 innings. He was then shipped to San Diego at the deadline and was deployed in the set-up role behind Robert Suarez. Overall, the 30-year-old posted a strong 1.75 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP across 72 frames of work. Currently, Porter Hodge is slated to be the ninth-inning option in Chicago. Last summer, he tallied nine saves with a 1.88 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP through 43 innings of work. Scott would be the top ninth-inning option if he were to join the Cubs.

Fri Jan 1719:13Mets No Longer Targeting Tanner Scott
According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the New York Mets are no longer targeting free-agent relief pitcher Tanner Scott. Puma noted that with the Mets signing A.J. Minter earlier on Friday, the team is no longer pursuing other options for their bullpen. The Mets met with Scott earlier in free agency, and he is still one of the top available options on the open market. Last season, Scott held a 1.75 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP across 72 innings of work. He tallied 22 saves and struck out 84 batters. He generated a stellar 27.5% hard-hit and 4.7% barrel rates, placing him in the 99th and 92nd percentile among qualified pitchers, respectively. He also generated ground balls at a strong 52.0% rate. The 30-year-old will likely be deployed as a ninth-inning option with his new club.

Tue Jan 719:47Mets Meet With Tanner Scott
According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, the New York Mets have met with free-agent relief pitcher Tanner Scott. Scott is viewed as one of the top remaining relief pitchers available on the open market. Sammon noted that according to a source, the Mets are looking to continue to bolster their current bullpen. Even though they already have an elite closer in Edwin Diaz, Scott would provide the Mets with a stellar 1-2 punch. Last season, the southpaw posted an excellent 1.75 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP across 72 innings of work. He struck out batters at a solid 28.6% rate and generated an elite 27.5% hard-hit rate and a 4.7% barrel rate. If Scott were to ink a contract with the Mets, fantasy managers should view him as an elite option for holds, as he would likely be deployed as the go-to option in the eighth inning.

Mon Jan 619:29Tanner Scott Seeking $20M AAV On Open Market
According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, free agent relief pitcher Tanner Scott is seeking $20 million AAV on the open market. Cotillo noted that while the Red Sox have shown interest, Scott is expected to have multiple big-market clubs in the bidding. In addition, his new contract is expected to reset the relief pitcher market. Last season, Scott opened the campaign with the Miami Marlins and was eventually traded to the San Diego Padres. Across 72 total frames, the southpaw held a stellar 1.75 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP with a 28.6% K rate. He tallied 22 saves but only four with San Diego as he was deployed as the set-up man in front of Robert Suarez. Under the hood, the 30-year-old generated a strong 4.7% barrel rate and a 27.5% hard-hit rate. Given the current contract he is looking for, fantasy managers should expect him to be deployed as the clear ninth-inning option on his new club.

Tue Jul 30 202416:43Padres Acquiring Tanner Scott From The Marlins
The San Diego Padres are finalizing a deal on Tuesday to acquire left-handed closer Tanner Scott from the Miami Marlins, according to sources. Check back for the return headed back to Miami for Scott, who has been one of the most dominant closers in baseball of late. The 30-year-old southpaw made the All-Star team for the first time in his career in 2024 and currently is 6-5 with a career-low 1.18 ERA (3.24 FIP) and 1.01 WHIP with 53 strikeouts, 27 walks and 18 saves in 45 2/3 relief innings. Scott has racked up 50 saves for the Fish in 185 appearances over the last three seasons and hasn't allowed an earned run since June 13. The bad news for his fantasy mangers, though, is that he could lose plenty of value with the move to San Diego, where he may be asked to share closing duties with hard-throwing right-hander Robert Suarez. It's unclear how the two closers will be used in SD.UPDATE: In addition to Scott, the Padres will receive Bryan Hoeing in exchange for Robby Snelling, Adam Mazur, ... [More]

Sat Jul 27 202412:34Yankees Pursuing Tanner Scott
The New York Yankees are one of six contending teams said to be prominently involved in trade talks for Miami Marlins All-Star left-hander Tanner Scott, who hasn't allowed an earned run since June 13 and is the most coveted closer on this year's trade market. The Baltimore Orioles, Scott's former team, are among five more teams also at the front of the pack seeking the best closer that is surely to be dealt by Tuesday's deadline. The Phillies, Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Mariners are believed to be going after Scott, too. Scott will be a free agent after this year and has a stingy 1.18 ERA and has held opponents to a .127 batting average. Current Yankees closer Clay Holmes also made the All-Star team this year but has a 7.14 ERA since June 13. He's been an above-average closer for the Yanks, but he's also blown seven of 28 save chances in 2024.

Sat Jul 20 202407:15Tanner Scott Picks Up Save On Friday
Miami Marlins left-hander Tanner Scott got the final four outs of a 6-4 win over the New York Mets to earn the save on Friday. Scott tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out one and not allowing any baserunners to pick up his 15th save of the season. The 29-year-old has been a solid closer for the Marlins and in fantasy this season, posting a 6-5 record, 1.30 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts over 41 2/3 innings of work while blowing just two saves.

Mon Jul 1 202422:50Tanner Scott On The Trade Market
USA Today's Bob Nightengale writes that the best reliever on the trade market this summer will be Miami Marlins left-hander closer Tanner Scott. The Marlins are asking a considerable amount for Scott but believe it will be met by the July 30 trade deadline. The 29-year-old southpaw reliever has had a strong year for fantasy managers with a 1.50 ERA (3.69 FIP), a 1.14 WHIP, 12 saves, 38 strikeouts and 23 walks in 36 relief innings for the Fish this year, but if Scott is traded, he's not expected to take over the closer's role for a contending team to close out the second half of the season. He'd surely maintain relevance as a high-leverage reliever in holds leagues, though. The Yankees, Orioles and Phillies are three teams that are expressing interest in acquiring Scott for their bullpens.

Wed Jun 26 202400:21Tanner Scott Earns 10th Save Of Season Tuesday
Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott picked up his 10th save of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Royals. Scott came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by one. He got the first out on a fly-out, allowed a single, and got the final two outs on a line-out and a ground-out. The 29-year-old has converted all but two save opportunities with a 1.59 ERA and a 9.26 K/9 rate in 34 innings of work. However, walks have returned as a big issue, as Scott has a 6.09 BB/9 rate. Additionally, he has not seen as many save opportunities as higher-end closers because of the Marlins' poor performance. His fantasy value may be limited, but he should continue to be a useful fantasy option in roto leagues.

Thu May 23 202401:02Tanner Scott Earns Save No. 6 Wednesday
Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott earned his sixth save of 2024 in Wednesday's win over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers, fanning one and allowing one hit before locking down the shutout victory. William Contreras singled to get Christian Yelich to the plate and make things interesting in a one-run ballgame, but Scott got Yelich to ground out to wrap this one up. The 29-year-old left-hander remains manager Skip Schumaker's preferred ninth-inning man despite the return of fellow southpaw A.J. Puk to Miami's bullpen, and he hasn't surrendered an earned run in 14 straight appearances with five saves during this span. Scott owns a dicey 22:18 K:BB through 21 innings overall, however, and he could be on the move at July's trade deadline with many anticipating for the Marlins to host a fire sale later this summer. That makes Scott a sell-high piece in fantasy leagues.

Mon Apr 22 202400:57Tanner Scott Continues Improvements On Sunday
Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott picked up his second save in two days on Sunday, closing out the Chicago Cubs in a 6-3 win. Scott has gotten his season back on track in the past week, picking up three saves while allowing only two hits and two walks. Another big indicator that Scott might be returning to form is that he hasn't walked a batter in his last two appearances after walking an astronomical 12 batters in his first eight appearances. Fantasy managers should be encouraged by the results and have a little more confidence in Scott when determining lineups for next week.

Sat Apr 20 202419:00Tanner Scott Picks Up Third Save Of Season On Saturday
Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott picked up his third save of the season in Saturday's 3-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs. Scott gave up two singles to start the ninth but then retired the next three batter to avoid damage and seal the win without giving up a run. The 29-year-old hasn't gotten many opportunities for closes this season with the Marlins reeling, but he is now three-for-four in close situations and has a 3.72 ERA. Scott will look to pick up at least one more save this weekend with game two of the Saturday doubleheader happening tonight and the series finale against the Cubs happening on Sunday.

Wed Apr 17 202400:42Tanner Scott Earns Second Save Of Season Tuesday
Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott picked up his second save of the season in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Giants. Scott came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by three. He got the first out on a flyout, allowed back-to-back walks, and got the final two outs on a strikeout and a pop-out. Things haven't gone smoothly for the 29-year-old, as he is 0-3 and has converted two of three save opportunities with a 4.15 ERA, an 8.31 K/9 rate, and a huge 12.46 BB/9 rate. Scott ended the 2023 season to earn the closer's role to start 2024, but walks have been an issue throughout his career. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out to see if he can get them back under control.

Mon Apr 15 202401:05Tanner Scott Falls Apart In Ninth
Miami Marlins relief pitcher Tanner Scott had another rough outing on Sunday, blowing the save and taking the loss in a 9-7 defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Braves. Scott allowed a crushing two-out, three-run homer to Marcell Ozuna in the ninth that flipped this game on its head. Scott has struggled severely so far this season and might be in danger of losing the closer role if he can't figure things out quickly. Fortunately for him, no one else in the Marlins pen looks worthy of the spot either, so he might be given a few more chances.

Mon Apr 1 202400:25Tanner Scott Takes Loss Sunday
Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott took the loss in a 9-7 extra-inning defeat against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Scott was tasked with the 10th inning of a tied game but allowed a hit, a walk, and committed an error. This led to two Pirates runs, which was enough to saddle Scott with the loss. The walks are a big concern for the 29-year-old, who has never had much command in his career, although he was able to control his pitches better last season. He has now walked three hitters in two innings so far this season, and if he continues down this path he could relinquish the closer role.
