Wed Apr 16 | 14:03 | Paul DeJong Placed On 10-Day Injured List |
The Washington Nationals have placed shortstop Paul DeJong (nose) on the 10-day injured list with a fractured nose. In a corresponding move, the Nationals promoted infielder Trey Lipscomb from Triple-A Rochester. DeJong suffered this injury during their victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday evening. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status while he is sidelined, but should not expect him to miss too much time. Through the first 16 games of the campaign, the 31-year-old infielder posted a .204/.246/.278 slash line with four doubles and a 2:24 BB:K. Under the hood, DeJong has generated a low .220 xwOBA with a .258 xSLG, which are both well below the average marks. While he is sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Lipscomb to see several opportunities in the infield. He will have value in deeper formats given his speed upside. |

Tue Apr 15 | 22:54 | Paul Dejong Leaves Early After Being Hit In The Face By A Pitch |
Washington Nationals infielder Paul DeJong (face) was hit by a pitch by Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller in the sixth inning in the left side of his face in Tuesday's 3-0 win and had to leave the game early. DeJong was able to get up and walk off the field under his own power but had a cut on the left side of his face. The 31-year-old veteran will probably be put through concussion tests as a precaution, but it sounds like he may have avoided a serious injury. DeJong went 0-for-2 in the game with a strikeout before leaving and was replaced at third base by Amed Rosario. He probably won't be available to play on Wednesday in Pittsburgh, but hopefully DeJong won't be forced to miss extended time. DeJong has struggled early in his first year with the Nats, as he came into Tuesday's contest with a .212 average (11-for-52) with no homers, two RBI, two steals and three runs. Check back on his status on Wednesday. |

Fri Apr 4 | 15:13 | Paul DeJong Sitting Against Diamondbacks |
Washington Nationals infielder Paul DeJong is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks at Nationals Park. With DeJong starting on the bench, Jose Tena is starting at third base and will hit eighth against D-backs right-hander Brandon Pfaadt. DeJong has gotten off to a slow start in 2025 in his first year in the nation's capital, as he's gone just 4-for-18 with two doubles, two walks and 11 strikeouts in 20 plate appearances over six games played. Tena will get a chance after going 1-for-2 with a strikeout in just two games played in the early going. He has never faced Pfaadt in his career and isn't a recommended lineup option for DFS gamers on Friday. The 31-year-old DeJong should see most of the playing time at the hot corner for the Nats early this season, and he still has some notable pop, but he won't contribute in the average department with a lot of strikeouts. |

Sun Feb 16 | 08:12 | Paul DeJong Signs One-Year Deal With Washington |
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, free-agent infielder Paul DeJong has signed a one-year contract worth $1 million with the Washington Nationals. DeJong spent the 2024 campaign playing with the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals. Across 139 games, DeJong held a .227/.276/.427 line with 24 home runs and two stolen bases. He generated a strong 10.2 percent barrel rate but was unable to make consistent contact. He posted a weak 34.9 percent whiff rate and a 32.4 percent strikeout rate, both well below the average marks. However, this was a slight improvement compared to the .207/.258/.355 line he held during the 2023 campaign. Fantasy managers should expect the 31-year-old to slot in as a depth option in the infield. He should not be targeted in any fantasy formats, as he is not likely to see consistent playing time. |

Sun Feb 9 | 07:56 | Twins Interested In Luis Urias, Paul DeJong |
According to Dan Hayes of The Athletic, the Minnesota Twins have inquired about free-agent infielders Luis Urias and Paul DeJong. Hayes noted that shortly after the team acquired outfielder Harrison Bader and reliever Danny Coulombe, the focus shifted to adding an infielder. Urias spent his entire 2024 season with the Seattle Mariners. Across 109 games, the 27-year-old posted a .191/.303/.394 line with just four home runs. DeJong began his season with the Chicago White Sox and was eventually shipped to Kansas City. Across 139 contests, the 31-year-old went deep 24 times and posted a .227/.276/.427 slash line. However, he posted a hefty 32.4 percent strikeout rate. If the Twins were to sign one of them, they would be deployed as a rotational piece within the infield and would likely not have a starting role. |

Sat Jan 11 | 09:02 | Paul DeJong Linked To Yankees |
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the New York Yankees have expressed interest in free agent infielder Paul DeJong. The Yankees have been in the infield market all offseason after losing Gleyber Torres to the Detroit Tigers. Over the past week, they have been linked to San Diego's Luis Arraez but have reportedly begun to lose interest. DeJong would provide a much cheaper alternative and would likely see all his time at the hot corner. Last summer, across 139 games with the Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals, DeJong hit 24 home runs with a .227/.276/.427 line. Under the hood, he generated a solid 10.2% barrel rate and a 41.5% hard-hit rate. However, he struggled at the plate, with a hefty 32.4% K rate and a 4.8% walk rate. If he were to head to the Bronx, Jazz Chisholm Jr. would likely spend most of the season at the keystone. |

Wed Sep 11 2024 | 17:19 | Paul DeJong Sitting For Royals |
Kansas City Royals infielder Paul DeJong is out of the team's starting lineup on Wednesday for a contest against the New York Yankees in the Bronx at Yankee Stadium. With DeJong on the bench, Maikel Garcia will start at third base and bat eighth against Yankees right-hander Luis Gil. DeJong could find himself riding the pine more often moving forward due to a recent slump offensively. So far in six games in September, he has gone 3-for-19 (.158) with no homers, an RBI, no walks and six strikeouts. The 31-year-old veteran was acquired from the Chicago White Sox at the trade deadline at the end of July and has been better with KC, though, batting .244 (22-for-90) with six home runs and 15 RBI. In deeper leagues, fantasy managers will want to keep DeJong on their benches until he pulls out of his slump with the Royals in a midst of a run for a wild-card spot in the American League. |

Sat Aug 24 2024 | 16:22 | MJ Melendez, Paul DeJong Both Not In Lineup Saturday |
Kansas City Royals catcher/outfielder MJ Melendez and shortstop Paul DeJong are starting Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers on the bench. Both players have been swinging hot bats recently, with Melendez slashing .278/.316/.500 and DeJong slashing .375/.423/.750 in their last seven games. This speaks to the strength and depth of the Royals lineup, as Bobby Witt Jr. and Salvador Perez are starting in their places. Still, both or either player could find their way into the game as pinch hitters late. |

Tue Aug 20 2024 | 09:40 | Paul DeJong Goes Deep |
Kansas City Royals third baseman Paul DeJong swatted his 21st homer in Monday's 5-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels, one of his two hits in four at-bats. DeJong's two-run homer off Angels pitcher Carson Fulmer came in the bottom of the fourth to give the Royals a 3-0 lead. He is hitting .316/.372/.605 with three homers, eight RBI, and seven runs scored in 13 games with the Royals after being traded from the Chicago White Sox at the trade deadline. DeJong is hitting a combined .237/.286/.448 with 21 homers, 49 RBI, and 46 runs scored with two steals in three attempts. He's found a groove in the bottom of the Royals order, and fantasy managers are grooving with him. |

Tue Jul 30 2024 | 16:00 | Royals Acquiring Paul DeJong From White Sox |
The Kansas City Royals are acquiring veteran shortstop Paul DeJong from the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, according to a source. It's unclear what the return will be heading back to the White Sox. The Royals already have one of the best shortstops in the game in Bobby Witt Jr., so DeJong will give the contending Royals more infield depth as they look to secure a wild-card spot in the American League down the stretch. The 30-year-old DeJong has hit only .228 (77-for-337) in Chicago in 2024, but it's come with 18 home runs, 41 RBI and 39 runs scored in 363 plate appearances and 102 games. His clearest path to playing time with his new squad will probably come at second base. As long as DeJong is playing regularly, this trade will be a nice boost to his fantasy value in deeper leagues for his right-handed power stroke. DeJong is riding a five-game hitting streak with a homer and two doubles. |

Sat Jun 29 2024 | 16:55 | Paul DeJong Hits 15th Home Run Saturday |
Chicago White Sox shortstop Paul DeJong hit his team-leading 15th home run on Saturday in an 11-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies in Chicago. DeJong is hitting .241 with 15 home runs, 33 RBI and 32 runs scored in 2024. The White Sox have now won three consecutive games for the first time since April and go for the series sweep on Sunday. DeJong continues to build potential trade value as the season heads into July and could find himself moved to a contender in a depth role for an organization. |

Fri Mar 15 2024 | 19:27 | Paul DeJong Plays Long Ball Friday |
Chicago White Sox shortstop Paul DeJong slugged his third homer of the spring as part of a 3-2 win over the Chicago Cubs in Cactus League action on Friday. Signed to a one-year deal by the White Sox this offseason, DeJong is up to a .297 average with 13 RBI and a stolen base to go along with his three homers, producing a .928 OPS in the process. While the strong spring numbers are encouraging, DeJong has fallen off a cliff at the plate in recent seasons. Last season, he hit just .207 with 14 home runs and four stolen bases across 112 games between the Cardinals, Blue Jays, and Giants a season ago. He should begin the season as the club's everyday shortstop but prospect Colson Montgomery should take over at some point this season. |

Tue Nov 21 2023 | 18:32 | Paul DeJong Agrees With White Sox |
Free-agent infielder Paul DeJong agreed to an undisclosed one-year deal with the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, pending a physical, according to a source. The rebuilding White Sox are taking a cheap flier on a former All-Star. The 30-year-old right-handed-hitting DeJong made the National League All-Star team in 2019 with the St. Louis Cardinals, when he hit .233/.318/.444 with a career-high 30 home runs, 78 RBI and nine stolen bases in 159 games. He hasn't even reached the 20-homer mark since then. In 112 contests with the St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants in 2023, he went 77-for-372 (.207) with 14 homers, 38 RBI, 13 doubles, four stolen bases and 41 runs scored in 400 plate appearances. DeJong can provide a bit of pop but will certainly be a batting-average drain as a middle infield platoon option in deep-mixed and AL-only fantasy leagues. |

Thu Sep 21 2023 | 21:24 | Paul DeJong Released Thursday |
The San Francisco Giants placed shortstop Paul DeJong on unconditional release waivers on Thursday and recalled infielders Marco Luciano and Tyler Fitzgerald from Triple-A Sacramento in corresponding moves. Brandon Crawford (hamstring) also went on the 10-day injured list and won't return this year, so expect Luciano and Fitzgerald to split time at the 6 for the Gigantes the rest of the way. The 30-year-old DeJong spent time with the Giants, St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays in 2023, but he wasn't good in any of those stops, hitting a combined .226 (74-for-328) with 14 home runs, 37 RBI, four steals and 41 runs scored in 112 games. In just 18 games in San Francisco, he went 9-for-49 (.184) with a homer, five RBI and two runs scored. |

Wed Aug 23 2023 | 21:49 | Paul DeJong Puts Together Strong Team Debut |
San Francisco Giants shortstop Paul DeJong made his team debut versus the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. The Giants signed the 30-year-old after he was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays. DeJong has struggled throughout a majority of the season, but put on a show during Wednesday's game. The right-handed slugger blasted a 400-foot home run in the fourth inning. He would follow that up with a pair of singles throughout the rest of the game. DeJong would finish his day 3-for-5 with four RBI in the win over Philly. DeJong has bad numbers on the season, but possibly a move to San Francisco will help spark his bat. |

Wed Aug 23 2023 | 14:39 | Paul DeJong Making Giants Debut Wednesday |
San Francisco Giants shortstop Paul DeJong will make his team debut Wednesday out of the nine-hole versus Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Michael Lorenzen. The Giants signed the veteran to a major league deal on Tuesday after he was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays as the club needed help up the middle with shortstop Brandon Crawford hitting the injured list with a forearm injury. DeJong enjoyed a solid bounce-back season with the Cardinals in 2023, hitting 13 homers alongside a .710 OPS across 81 games but fell off a cliff after being acquired by the Blue Jays at the trade deadline, going just 3-for-44 with 18 strikeouts and zero walks across 13 contests. |

Tue Aug 22 2023 | 16:10 | Giants Sign Paul DeJong To Big-League Deal |
The San Francisco Giants signed free-agent shortstop Paul DeJong to an undisclosed major-league deal on Tuesday, and he will join the team on Wednesday. DeJong began the 2023 campaign with the St. Louis Cardinals before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline earlier this month. Toronto released him on Monday, but it didn't take the 30-year-old veteran long to find a new home. The Jays cut him after he went 3-for-44 (.068) with 18 strikeouts in 13 games for them. Overall this year, he's hitting .211 (68-for-323) with 13 homers, 33 RBI, four steals and 39 runs scored in 94 games with the Cardinals and Jays. DeJong should at least see semi-regular playing time at the 6 in San Francisco as the Giants look for an upgrade over the struggling Brandon Crawford (forearm), who went on the injured list on Sunday. |

Wed Aug 2 2023 | 17:05 | Paul DeJong Hitting Eighth In Blue Jays Debut |
Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Paul DeJong, who was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals at Tuesday's trade deadline, will start at shortstop and bat eighth in his debut with the team on Wednesday against Baltimore Orioles rookie right-hander Grayson Rodriguez. Toronto just placed Bo Bichette (knee) on the injured list on Wednesday, so DeJong figures to see regular playing time at the 6 until Bichette rejoins the big-league team. Bichette isn't expected to miss extended time, so DeJong's stay as the starting shortstop could be short-lived. The 30-year-old is hitting just .233/.297/.412 on the year, but he has some pop (13 home runs) and could be a nice short-term play in fantasy with an upgrade in lineup with the move from St. Louis to Toronto. |

Tue Aug 1 2023 | 13:46 | Blue Jays Acquire Paul DeJong From Cardinals |
The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired infielder Paul DeJong from the St. Louis Cardinals, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic. St. Louis was rumored to be exploring trades of many infielders, and DeJong is the first to go. Interestingly enough, this is the second trade between the Cardinals and Blue Jays in the last week; closer Jordan Hicks was also sent north of the border. DeJong should have an immediate role in Toronto after shortstop Bo Bichette left last night's game with a knee injury. He played 81 games for the Cardinals this year, slashing .233/.297/.412 with 13 homers, 6.9 BB%, and 28.4 K%. The 29-year-old is an above-average defender with 9.0 dWAR and 8.0 OAA in 2023. With that said, he lacks fantasy appeal for the time being. |

Wed Apr 5 2023 | 18:41 | Paul DeJong To Begin Rehab Assignment On Thursday |
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong (back) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday. The right-handed slugger landed on the injured list to begin the season due to back soreness. The organization doesn't believe that DeJong is going to require a lengthy rehab assignment, but back issues can sometimes be difficult. Once he returns, Taylor Motter or Alec Burleson will likely end up in the minor leagues. Fantasy managers will have to check back for another update on DeJong. |
