I don't think too many people had Boyd throwing 11 scoreless innings to start the season on their 2025 bingo cards. The 34-year-old has been incredible to start the season, but will run into a tough matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his next start. It's understandable if fantasy managers are hesitant to add Boyd ahead of this start.

Although Boyd hasn't made more than 15 regular-season starts in a single season since 2019, he'll give the Cubbies some valuable starting experience for their starting rotation to open the 2025 campaign.

He certainly doesn't have the type of upside as Skubal, though.

The Tigers rotation takes another hit with Eduardo Rodriguez (finger) and Tarik Skubal (elbow) already sidelined. Luckily, right-hander Matt Manning (foot) is set to return on Tuesday, so his return will soften the blow of Boyd. The expectation is that Boyd won't be able to pitch again until mid-season of 2024.

McCosky notes in his tweet that the left-hander will pitch out of the bullpen for the Mariners. A starter for most of his career in the Majors, the left-hander previously made 15 starts for Detroit last season. In those 15 starts, he turned in a 3.89 ERA, a 4.10 FIP, 67 strikeouts, and 23 walks in 78.2 innings for the Tigers.
